A MESSAGE OF LOVE

In the final verses of today’s Gospel reading Jesus says that when two or three are gathered in his name, “there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20).

So we understand that fraternal correction is always undertaken with Jesus present to us.

Encouraging the good in others is not only the right thing for us to do, it is a necessity. The Lord tells the prophet Ezekiel that if he “does not speak out” to dissuade a person from evil, then he will be held responsible.

We live in a “do your own thing” age when moral objectivity is often ignored. But when the message we share with others is one of love, our motives cannot be misinterpreted.

As St. Paul writes, “Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10).

Jesus came to call sinners, to save them. He loves sinners. And that is the reason we are to confront them--not to punish them, but to love them.

For God never forces a person to repent. God invites with love, especially the love Jesus showed by dying on the cross.

My friends in Christ:

Welcome Back to School Throughout the summer, we have been welcoming parishioners back to church for Mass and gradually we see the number of people at Mass increasing. But this week, our focus is on welcoming our children back to school. Sister Elizabeth and our school faculty and staff have worked so hard to prepare for the return of our children to school. They have created an extensive written plan, which identifies and addresses every possible policy that covers the activities of our children and their teachers to maintain a safe environment for the school year. The policies and procedures for the school have been approved by the Office of Catholic Education of the Archdiocese and has been sent home to all of the school parents. Sister Elizabeth and our faculty have done a tremendous job as Catholic educators and leaders in the face of so many challenges, but we have to do our part also. I ask you to join me every day in prayer, as we ask Jesus to watch over and protect our school children and Sister Elizabeth and faculty and keep them safe from this virus and bless our school abundantly this year. Thank you for sharing in the Catholic education of our children. P.S. Next week we will focus on our PREP program.

NEWS FROM ST. JUDE SCHOOL

St. Jude School opened its doors for its in-person and virtual learners on Tuesday, September 1st! Our masks did not hide our happiness at being together again to welcome a new school year. We spent time during our initial days practicing the three Ws that are the pattern for life during the pandemic: Wear your mask; Watch your distance; Wash your hands! We also renewed our relationships and welcomed new students. We are very proud of our students and the excellent way they have adjusted to the changes that the pandemic demands. Respectful, resilient, and responsible describes our SJS family. We are all in this together. God bless us and all students as we begin the adventure of the academic year, 2020-2021! Our thoughts and prayers surround our parish children who are preparing to receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday, September 19th. They have been waiting and preparing patiently since the postponement of their original date in May. Their longing to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist has deepened during these weeks of waiting. May the gift of the Body and Blood of Jesus be their source of inspiration and joy all the days of their lives!

If I tell the wicked, “O wicked one, you shall surely die,” and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death.
