Duh 2-5th May 2014 Live at Leeds is rapidly gaining a reputation for being one of the top city festivals in the UK. Held in Leeds City centre, May bank holiday weekend (2nd-5th) played host to 202 acts performing on 20 stages across 15 venues. Live at Leeds was worth the money at just £25 a day. Celebrating upcoming bands and recognized acts, the festival has hosted performances from the likes of Rudimental and Bombay Bicycle Club. With plenty of acts to choose from, including this year’s special guests Frank Turner and Palma Violets, it would have been silly to give it a miss. We swung by Leeds Met to see Black Moth. Already renowned in the Leeds music scene, they bombarded the crowd with an enormous live sound. With inklings of old school rock and Sabbath-esque vibes, they were not one to be missed. Following Black Moth was Royal Blood. The rock duo has come a long way since forming last year. Kerr (vocals, bass) and Thatcher (drums) deafened the crowd with their massive riffs. They finished with fiery new single ‘Little Monster.’ Look out; Royal Blood are looking like the next big thing. Venturing up the road to Leeds Union, we saw The Wytches – who gave off a raw, grunge sound and brought a no shit attitude to the stage. Drawing the evening to a close was Leeds’ very own Pulled Apart By Horses at Brudenell Social Club. Compiling a mix of old and new material, PABH performed a highly energized 45 minute set. Overall, it was a beautiful sunny day to accompany a vast amount of talent from artists visiting from across the world. Despite a few sound check and capacity issues, the event was well organised.
