Hill Campus for our Creative Arts and Social Science students. In addition,

With a thriving landscape, our vibrant Temple Newsam

Campus is based on Home Farm. The farm is enveloped

by acres of picturesque parkland and scenic gardens

that are overlooked by a listed Tudor-Jacobean mansion.

Home Farm houses our animal care and animal

management courses, allowing students to get

hands-on practical experience of raising farm

animals and observing wildlife. As one of the

largest working rare breed farms in Europe, it’s

only one of 16 to be nationally approved by the

Rare Breeds Survival Trust.

provides a verbal presentation or text to a student

to accommodate your needs. When the need for

a reader or a scribe occurs, a private room and/

or extra time for testing may be given to you.

PHARMACISTAre you interested in the field of medicine? As a

public-facing pharmacist, you’ll be responsible for

dispensing prescription medicine to the public.

A strong scientific knowledge and attention to detail

is needed as you will be double-checking dosage and

ensuring that different treatments are compatible.

You’ll prepare medication, advise the public on

treatment of minor ailments, liaise with doctors,

and supervise the preparation of any medicines.

LABORATORY TECHNICIANDo you believe that the laboratory is your dream working

environment? In this role, you’ll carry out routine tests

and checks while performing technical support functions.

For this role, you’ll need strong science knowledge,

and you will also be up to date with health and

safety best practices. You’ll be able to follow

COSTUME DESIGNERDo you dream of designing and making costumes for

an array of performers? Costume designers create a

variety of costumes for different themed productions.

In this role, you’ll need to have a keen eye for detail.

You’ll be able to work to a brief and translate designs into

wearable items that are functional for performance.

You’ll need to have an understanding of stage

and sets, and how costume textures need

to balance and complement sets as well as

reflecting the setting of the production.

TV PRESENTERUsually adding an element of entertainment to shows,

TV presenters need to be personable, comfortable on

camera, and have strong communication skills.

You’ll act as the voice and personality of the

show. You’ll also be responsible for linking

segments together, introducing guest speakers,

and maintaining the programme’s pace.

If you are presenting a subject-specific show, you’ll usually

need a background knowledge of that area. In this role,

you may work on pre-recorded or live programmes.

VIDEOGRAPHERVideographers shoot and edit video to capture

important moments, events, and clips that can

then be organised into a visual narrative.

In this role, you will look after sick and injured

You will groom and exercise animals, prepare

food, and feed them. You will also administer

medication, take animals to the vet, and

KENNEL/CATTERY ASSISTANTWhether you’re a cat or dog person, a kennel or cattery

PREPARE FOR A LIFE IN THE ARMED FORCES

Break through boundaries with our preparatory

programme. Designed for recruits, with this course

you’ll complete timetabled fitness, teamwork, drill, and

swimming sessions in preparation for the selection

fitness tests of the forces. You’ll meet with a variety

of armed forces and experience career talks and

guidance on armed forces application processes.

FIREFIGHTERAre you ready to quench fires and save lives? Firefighters

provide emergency services in the event of accidents or

bomb alerts as well as providing advice on fire protection.

In this role, you’ll need to be able to problem

solve and stay calm in emergency situations.

You’ll also need to be comfortable in speaking

with the public and working with heights.

Firefighters also coordinate and participate in

firefighting activities including training, running

drills, and responding to emergency situations.

PRISON OFFICERAs a prison officer, you will direct, coordinate, and

participate in guarding inmates and maintaining

discipline in prisons and other detention centres.

You will need to be supportive and compassionate

as well as focused on rehabilitation. You will

need to pay attention to detail and be able to

motivate prisoners to better themselves.

Your work will vary depending on the type of prison

you’re working in and its level of security. Higher

grade prison officers have extra responsibilities

such as supervising other officers.

POLICE OFFICERAs a police officer, you will uphold law and

order through the detection, prevention,

and investigation of criminal activity.

Your role will encompass tasks such as working

alongside communities, conducting patrol duties,

FITNESS INSTRUCTOR/PERSONAL TRAINERIf you are passionate about fitness and hope to inspire

and invigorate individuals, you could become a fitness

instructor or personal trainer.

You’ll need a solid understanding of nutrition, physiology,

and different exercises. You’ll need to be organised,

patient, and capable of creating a personal exercise plan.

You’ll understand fitness inside out, and will be able to

PHYSIOTHERAPISTAs a physiotherapist, you’ll restore movement and

mobility to those who are injured or struggling with a

medical condition.

Travel, Tourism and Aviation

Our Travel, Tourism and Aviation department provides

At Leeds City College, we have a successful history

of working in partnership with schools including

the city’s Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres,

to provide a range of programmes to support,

engage, and progress 14-16 year olds.

The outcomes for our students are excellent, with

preparation for a vocational course pathway at the heart

of everything we provide. We have outstanding year-

on-year progression rates for students continuing on to

further education, employment, and post-16 training.

SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

These are one day per week accredited vocational courses

for year 10 and 11 students in a range of curriculum areas

INDEPENDENT AND LIFE SKILLS

Designed for students with learning difficulties and

disabilities, this course develops individual living skills.

With a strong focus on independent living, the programme

is based at our Joseph Priestley Centre, Beeston where

students can learn in our flat kitchen facilities as well as

using the college-run house in the community.

As you work through the course, you will improve your

English and maths skills as well as your computer

knowledge. You will also improve your personal and social

skills ready for later life. You will be encouraged to keep a

portfolio of your work and achievements which can lead to

certification where appropriate.

disabilities, this course focuses on students making

decisions and developing their learning. This helps

students to explore and make choices and therefore start

to prepare for adulthood.

While studying this course, you will focus on your own

personal development and will acquire the transferable

skills that will aid you with preparing for independent

living. You will experience the world of work, community

exploration, and lots of exciting sports and enrichment

activities. You will also improve your communication skills

and will gain support with your English and maths.

able to complete a certification where appropriate.

INDEPENDENT AND LIFE SKILLS

Known as Vine, Queenswood Education Centre is our

Headingley hub for learners with severe and complex

learning difficulties. It ensures that students’ needs are

catered for, allowing them to reach their potential. Vine

has multiple classrooms and care facilities incorporating

tracking hoists. Individual medical regimes are taken care

of, in conjunction with NHS services.

Learning programmes are created around your individual

EHC* outcomes alongside the development of life skills,

communication, and independence. We understand

all learners’ needs vary and Vine learners will need a

high level of support. We support each of you to be as

independent as you can be as you prepare for adulthood.

VINE, QUEENSWOOD EDUCATION CENTRE

Our courses are extremely personalised and are

designed to support progression. These courses may be

suitable if you have few or no formal qualifications.

*Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

An EHCP is for children and young people aged up to 25

who need more support than is available through special

educational needs support.

EHCPs identify educational, health, and social needs and

set out the additional support to meet those needs. Your

local authority can carry out these assessments if they

are not already in place, search EHCP at gov.uk for more

information.

Are you a SEND student that needs specialist support? Don’t worry, we’re here to help.

Our friendly High Needs SEND team act as a safety net for students, putting measures in place to ensure that everyone has a positive experience at the college and their needs are supported. By the end of college, our helpful team will ensure you have developed adulthood skills including employment, community, inclusion, independent living, and health.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY (SEND) SUPPORT

Wave 1 (quality first teaching) support includes:• In-class differentiation such as smaller

tasks, visual handouts

• Coaching tutor or key person support

• Personalised timetable

• iPad or Chromebooks

• Referrals to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), careers, and mental health and wellbeing services
