Youth of the Year State Final! Well another busy month has come and gone. Your GMT Team has been busy over the last few months setting up and running Membership Development Forums. Since last newsletter we have run 2. The fist one was at Leongatha on 17th of March and the second, Balnarring on Sunday 14th April. At Leongatha we had 5 clubs and 13 members from zones 5-8. At Balnarring we had 15 members, from 9 clubs, from zones 9-12. We thank them for coming and their input.

Feedback received from these sessions has been great. The members who have come seemed to get value from it. There is a few people that I need to thank for their assistance with these days. PDG Ann Eldrige, DG Peter, DGE Neil, Cab Sec Norma, Lion Kerrie McMahon, all the Clubs that have hosted us, Nina Blythe and Anita Culpitt. Thank you all for your support of the GMT Team in delivering these sessions.

As I write this the V3 District is sitting at 1216 members. As a district we have added 119 members into V3 for this Lions year. This is very pleasing, especially considering we still have 3 months to go. I also know that some Clubs have inducted new members, who have not yet been put into MyLCI. Could I ask Clubs in this situation to please input your new members as soon as you can?

We continue to move in the right direction. I must again say thankyou to all members who have been recruiting new members. Don’t forget to continue to ask friends, family, workmates and pretty much anyone you come across, that you think would be a great Lion. You will get knock backs. Don’t be out off. Continue to “Just Ask”. We have a great organization, with a great service culture. Let’s continue to grow it and help our clubs thrive and prosper.

On new members. In the next couple of weeks we will emailing, and writing to those not with email, an invitation to a new forum. This will be sent to anyone that has joined V3 since January 2018.

The topics covered will be; Lions who are we?

Our history, Our structure Our leaders Our global causes

Our Clubs Club organisation chart Roles Discussion on “Your Club, your way” Discussion on Fundraising Activities /

Service Activities / Social activities Ethics/Purposes.. Code of conduct Resolving Conflict Developing project ideas and creating a

project plan Our District

The District Governor The District Leadership Team The Global Action Team (GLT, GST,

GMT) Other Cabinet Officer positions Useful contacts- websites/resources/ information/

District Directory So for new members, when you get this letter we hope to see you there. For sponsors of new members ( since January 2018) please speak to your new members. Discuss this with them, and encourage them to come. I am confident they will get a lot out of it. Keep up the great work and don’t forget to “JUST ASK”!

From your Cabinet Secretary!

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of a Lions year. Have you achieved everything that you had dreamed about at the beginning of the year? You don’t need to have been the Club President to have ideas and projects that you would like your members to do. Everyone is part of a team in every Club. Don’t be afraid to put new ideas in front of the members that’s what keeps us all going. You will be receiving via email and in this newsletter information about the Club Information Day on the 2nd. June 2019. This year it is being held at Warragul. I’m sure you will be interested in knowing how the new MyLion is working and how much easier it will be to record your hours, new members etc. This will be interesting for all Lions not just the Club Secretary. New Members are welcome and will receive an invite to attend also. I have listed new members in this newsletter. I do hope that all of these members are made to feel really welcome in their Clubs, remember when you were that ‘new member’. It is a really special time in your life. You think of how many smiles

you have given to people when you have offered that hand of friendship and know how you have helped a child walk or know that a child in particular with cancer can live a better life because of you. The stories go on but they are all significant to what we all do as Lions. A reminder that International, Multiple District and District dues will be sent to you early in July. These are charged on your membership as of at the end of June. Please make sure your listings are up to date. It is also a good time to check that the addresses, phone numbers and email addresses are current and correct. Life is never dull as a Lion, there is always something to keep abreast of. As Cabinet Secretary I know that I am often pestering you to send things to me, then I tell myself we are all volunteers. You are all doing an amazing job so thank you for that. I hope that you all had a good Easter and that if you travelled you all arrived home safely and in good health. Until next time…. Take care.

PDG Norma Barnard Cabinet Secretary

Thankyou for the New Wheels!

On behalf of the Lions Club of Stratford and Strickland family I’d like to thank you all for coming to this car presentation. After reading the article in the Gippsland Times I presented it to the Club as Project. I t was moved that we ask the other Clubs in Zones 3&4 for support and this was acepted and fully supported We applied for a grant from the Australian Lions Foundation for which we was fully supported. So on behalf of the Australian Lions Foundation and the Lions Clubs of Stratford, Sale, Briagolong, Longford, Loch Sport, Wellington-Latrobe, Maffra, Heyfield, Rosedale and the Community at large for making this possible. A car means more than just a vehicle to get from A To point B or a way to get Crystal to medical appointments. It also means freedom to more easily do many of the things that most families take for Granted, like go to the Park, visit friends or other adventures as a family. We hope that Jess, Gavin, Crystal and the rest of their family enjoy their new found freedom in the new car. Today we will release pigeons to mark the beginning of this new freedom and hopefully new adventures for your family I would to ask the Lions District 201V3 District Governor Lion Peter Payne to come forward to present the keys to Jess and Gavin for Crystal’s car. Youth of the Year District Final! The District Final was held on Sunday 24 March at Trafalgar in front of an audience of over sixty Lions and family members. The five finalists impressed with their public speaking skills and content of speeches. All were of a very high standard and the judges took some time to decide on a winner. No doubt it was a hard job as the scores would have been very close. The overall winner was Hayden Flynn from Padua College in Mornington and sponsored by the Lions Club of Mornington. The Public Speaking winner was Ben Harms from Gippsland Grammar and sponsored by the Lions Club of Sale. Other finalists were Bryce Font (Koo Wee Rup L.C.), Eden McLean (Cranbourne L.C.) and Lachlan Vass (Mt Martha L.C.) The Lions Club of Trafalgar hosted the day. Sincere thanks go to President Alan Smith and all members of the Club for making everyone feel so welcome and for providing a wonderful lunch. All present appreciated your hard work in making the day such a success. Hayden went to the State Finals and represented District V3 in Carisbrook on Saturday 6 April. Although Hayden didn’t win he made a very good impression and received positive feedback from the judges. Well done Hayden! This concludes the District competition for 2018-19. Many thanks to all participating Clubs and I look forward to assisting you and all Clubs with preparations for the 2019-2020 competition. District YOTY Chairman Colin Stevens
