EngagingWe believe in structuring our camps to involve and engage each camper as they learn, play and grow.Summer is a time to explore and try new things. We will do our best to introduce your child to as many newexperiences as possible. Our goal is for every child to have a well-rounded summer camp experience from start to finish so that they are eager to return year after year!

AffordableOur goal is to provide high-quality programs at affordableprices so that everyone is able to participate. We are proud to offer an early registration fee for Lincolnwoodresidents, sibling discounts and a camp payment plan.

AccommodatingWe do our best to offer flexible programming to meet the needs of all participants. We offer fullday, half day and partial week registration options as well as “Pick-a-Week” which offers furthercustomization for your summer scheduling. Email communication tools, such as weeklynewsletters and calendars, allow parents to be in the know with everything camp-related!

Our staff is selected for their enthusiasm,maturity and experience working with children. They go through an extensive trainingprior to the start of camp so they are well-prepared to handle the needs of all participants.

The American Camp Association (ACA) is a community of camp professionalsdedicated to ensuring the high quality of camp programs. The ACA communityof camps promotes active participation, caring relationships, and focus on theemotional, social, spiritual and physical growth of the individual. As a leadingauthority in youth development, ACA works to preserve, promote, and improvethe camp experience. The ACA standards identify practices considered basicto a quality camp experience. Accredited camps are responsible not only tomeet the state and local laws, but have voluntarily chosen to also meet thoserequirements defined by the standards.

general informationStaff SupervisionEach camp is supervised daily by a qualified adult supervisor. Somecamps, depending on size, also have an assistant. High school andcollege-age counselors are carefully selected for their demonstration ofmaturity and enthusiasm as well as experience working with children.All camp staff members complete an extensive training includingfirst aid and CPR certification prior to the start of camp. Please seestaff-to-camper ratios highlighted for each general recreation campthroughout this publication.

Friendship RequestWe recognize the value of attending camp with a friend. Campers who want to be grouped together should request each other on twoseparate Friendship Request Forms available on page 24, online at www.recreation.lwd.org, and in the Parks and Recreation office.Friendship Requests apply only to full session registrants.Campers may request only one friend and the request must bereciprocal.

Behavior ManagementAll campers are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at alltimes. Guidelines have been developed to help make our programssafe and enjoyable for all. The Camper Code of Conduct in theParent Handbook should be reviewed with your child prior to thefirst day of camp.

Health and SafetyAll campers must have a completed Camper Data Form on file bythe first day of camp. Forms are available online for downloading at www.recreation.lwd.org, and are also available in the Parks and Recreation office. No camper will be allowed to stay at camp if he/she does not have a completed Camper Data Form on file.Information collected on this form includes emergency contacts,medical information, allergy information, permission to attend field trips and authorized pick-up persons.

It is your responsibility as a parent/guardian to notify the Parks and Recreation Department of any physical, mental or medicalconditions that may require special attention while your child is at camp. Please do not send your child to camp if he/she is sick.Children should be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to camp after an illness.

CommunicationThe Parent Handbook will be available at www.recreation.lwd.orgby June 2. Please read through this booklet prior to the start ofcamp. The manual outlines everything you need to know aboutcamp including information on lunches, field trips, sunscreen,swimming, camp clothing, hours and drop-off/pick-up procedures.

Camp calendars will be posted online at www.recreation.lwd.orgby June 2. Each calendar will list highlighted activities, theme days, field trips and special food days. Although we do our best to adhere to the calendars, from time to time activities do change. We willcommunicate all changes with you well in advance to avoid confusion.

In an effort to remain “green”, all newsletters and calendars will beemailed. Please make sure to provide a current email addressat time of registration.

Camp absences should be called in to the Parks and Recreationoffice at (847) 677-9740, or to your specific camp cell phone. If it is before or after normal business hours (9:00am-5:00pm), pleaseleave a message. You may also call the office if you need to get intouch with your child during the camp day. We will make sure themessage reaches his/her camp director and that they return yourcall promptly.

Swim and Tennis LessonsSwim and tennis lessons are available for many of our camps aslisted in this publication for an additional fee. Both swim andtennis lessons are four weeks in length and will not be held on the first day of camp for each session. Please note that whilewe try to schedule camp activities around lessons, it is not alwayspossible. Make-up lessons are offered when possible.

Photo and Video PolicyDuring camp sessions, photos and videos are often taken ofparticipants. These photos and videos are used for variouspromotional pieces such as seasonal brochures, flyers andnewspaper articles. If you do not want your child’s photo or videotaken, you must notify us in writing by the first day of camp.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)The Parks and Recreation Department intends to fully comply with the ADA. This legislation ensures that recreation programs andservices are available and accessible to all persons, regardless oflevel of physical or mental ability. If you or your family member isdisabled and would like to participate in a recreation program,please indicate that on your registration form or online so thatreasonable accommodations can be made.

M-NASR Camp InformationMaine-Niles Association of Special Recreation (M-NASR) provides a variety of Summer Day Camps for youth and teens with special needs. M-NASR offers five different Summer Day Camps for individuals ages 3-22 years with weekly registration available.For Member Districts’ residents, we have transportation andscholarship opportunities. To ensure the camper has a successfulcamp experience, M-NASR provides a structured campenvironment and staff according to the needs of the camper.

M-NASR’s Summer Day Camps mirror our Member District Camps’activities. We offer swimming, arts and crafts, sports, groupgames and field trips. We also work on increasing social skills andself-esteem; facilitate peer interactions and community integration.

New Parent OrientationAre you new to the Lincolnwood Summer Day Camp program? Perhapsyour child is “graduating” to a new camp this summer and you have somequestions. Whatever the case may be, we would be delighted to have youattend the Parent Orientation at the Lincolnwood Community Center from 6:30-7:30pm.

We will review the Parent Handbook (available online by June 2), highlightingpertinent information specific to each camp. A question and answer periodwill wrap up the evening allowing everyone to leave feeling fully prepared forthe first day of camp!

Prairie Dogs is designed specifically for our youngest campers with developmentally appropriate activities planned each day. This is a great way for your son or daughter to make new friends and develop their first fond summer camp memories.

With safety as our first priority, we adhere to a 5:1 ratio of campers to counselors. Twice per session, age-appropriate field trips are planned to local kid-friendly destinations. We also invite children’s performers to camp to entertain the group every other week.

Recreational swim is held on Fridays with optional swim lessons on Mondays and Wednesdays. (Must be four years of age by September 1,2015). Please send your child to camp dressed for swimming if enrolled in swim lessons and on Fridays for recreational swim. Drop-off forPrairie Dogs is at the Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center (7055 Kostner Avenue). Pick-up is at the Lincolnwood Community Center (6900 N. Lincoln Avenue). Please send your child with a lunch and beverage every day unless otherwise noted; snack will be served each day.

Campers must be three years old by the first day of camp and fully potty trained to attend Prairie Dogs.

Need to bridge the gap from the end of Prairie Dogs to the end of one of our other fabulous camps? We have the camp for you! When the camp day ends Prairie Dogs Overtime camp is just beginning with more of your campers favorite camp activities including arts and crafts, playground time and so much more. This camp ends at 2:30pm to give parents enough time to get from one camp to thenext to pick up all of their campers on time.

The fun never ends at Camp Potawatomie! This camp is sure to please with daily activities including sports and games, arts and crafts,recreational swimming and so much more. Our number one priority is always safety. We adhere to a 6:1 camper to counselor ratio and planage-appropriate activities.

Camp Potawatomie heads out on weekly field trips and enjoys visits from children’s entertainers such as storytellers and musicians. As if that wasn’t enough fun, we also offer optional swim and tennis lessons to ensure your child has a very well-rounded day camp experience.

Please send your child to camp each day with a lunch and beverage unless otherwise noted. Camp Potawatomie will meet rain or shine with a move to indoor space when necessary.

The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to partner withSchool District 74 to offer Club Kid, an afterschool program for Kindergarten–5thgrades during the 2015-2016 school year. Club Kid provides fun, organized activitiesfor the children after school in the Rutledge Hall Multipurpose Room. (Children fromTodd Hall are walked to Rutledge Hall by Club Kid staff.)

This well-rounded program features homework help, arts and crafts, cookingactivities, athletics, a health and wellness program and more. Club Kid follows the School District 74 calendar, meeting every day that school is in session.

C.I.T.swill focus on building positive relationships with staff andserving as role models for Club Kid members. LEVEL IIntroduction to Water SkillsThis is the introductory class for swimming.Level I helps students feel comfortable in thewater and enjoy the water safely.

LEVEL II Fundamental Aquatic SkillsLevel II is for students to learn the fundamentalskills of swimming. It gives students successwith the fundamental skills as the classprogresses. The students must learn the basicfundamentals before they can move to Level III.

LEVEL III Stroke DevelopmentLevel III will build and strengthen the basicfundamental skills learned in Level II. This level will also provide additional guidedpractice with strokes.

LEVEL IV Stroke ImprovementLevel IV develops confidence in the strokeslearned and improves other aquatic skills likediving and swimming underwater for severalseconds.

Five Ways to Register:

Waiver/Release of LiabilityIn accordance with the Parks and Recreation Departmentregistration policy, a signed waiver must be on file for participationin any of our programs. This agreement can be found on thereverse side of our registration form as well as online.

InsuranceThe Parks and Recreation Department does not carry medicalinsurance and assumes no liability for personal injury or loss ofpersonal property while attending any of our programs.

Sibling Discounts There is a $25 sibling discount taken off of your total camp cost for each child registered after the first from the same family. Thediscount is applied once and is not applicable for specialtycamps or Pick-A-Week registration. If a refund is issued for onechild, the refund will be issued less the $25 discount.

Payment PlansFor your convenience, we offer a payment plan for summer camp.There is a $50 non-refundable finance fee due at time ofregistration. In addition, we collect a $100 non-refundable depositper child (also due at time of registration), which is applied towardthe total camp cost for your child. Camp payments must be paid infull by May 27, 2015. Please visit the Parks and RecreationDepartment to complete all necessary paperwork.

ProratingWe do not prorate camp fees. We do offer Pick-a-Week registrationfor families needing a flexible schedule.

Age RequirementsWhen choosing a camp for your child, please use the grade he/shewill be entering in the fall of 2015.

Early Registration FeeWe encourage residents to register for camp by April 17 to receivethe Early Bird Discount. Please note that this early registration feeis applicable to Lincolnwood residents only.

Residency RequirementsIn order to qualify for the resident rate (R), the participant needs to reside within the corporate boundaries of Lincolnwood on ayear-round (12 month) basis. Proof of residency may be required at time of registration. Anyone not meeting these requirements willbe responsible for paying the non-resident (NR) rate. Non-residentregistration begins on March 2.

RefundsWe do our best to meet your needs with our camp program, but understand refunds are needed from time to time. Pleasefamiliarize yourself with the camp refund policy, located below.Session I refund request deadline is May 27; Session II refundrequest deadline is June 29. These deadlines are adhered to without exception.

Summer Camp Refund Policy1. 100% refund given two weeks prior to the start of each camp

session less a service charge. Service charges are as follows:$10 for fees under $50; $20 for fees $50-$200; $30 for feesover $200.

2. Less than two weeks prior to the start of each camp session, the service fee increases to 25% of the program fee, only if areplacement is found for your camper’s spot. If no replacement is found, no refund will be issued.

3. No refunds will be issued three days after the start of eachcamp session, or one day after the start of each Pick-a-Week.

4. A refund request form must be completed for all refunds. Forms are available at the Parks and Recreation office or atwww.recreation.lwd.org.

Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and womenwho died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after theAmerican Civil War to commemorate the Union andConfederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.

Please help Lincolnwood and American Legion Post #1226celebrate Memorial Day. The parade kicks off at the corner of Cicero and Pratt Avenues at approximately 10:20am, travelingeast on Pratt Avenue, turning north on Keeler Avenue, ending in Proesel Park at Madeleine’s Garden. The ceremony will takeplace in Madeleine’s Garden at approximately 11am.

All Memorial Day activities are free of charge.
