This time, they hope that our new President Trump will support a two-state solution, one that would give Israel a contiguous border with her avowed, homicidal enemy. They also expect to negate Trump’s campaign promise to move America’s embassy to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem, in keeping with the construct of violence that the Mohammedans have scorched into the history of every vanquished territory. Arab recognition of Israel’s right to exist was part of the 1948 peace plan, yet this is what the Arabs sidestep. They want a Palestinian state not alongside, but in place of, Israel. Since the Arabs lost their aggressive war of June 1967 against Israel, they have sought to obtain the territory by other means – if not through warfare then through demographic jihad – the overwhelming of the small Jewish State by those who fled in 1948 Open House! A Home Owner Saver Advance is a separate unsecured loan that is made to the homeowner the proceeds of which go directly to the Bank to pay the arrearage. The Home Saver is a separate, unsecured loan made to the Homeowner for the sole purpose of reinstating the delinquent mortgage loan. This option requires a separate note and a separate monthly payment, and is favored by Banks because it does not change the original terms of the initial note and mortgage.

DEFEND! Every homeowner is offered the privilege of defending their home in our judicial system, and each homeowner should consider doing so. The sixth reason a homeowner should DEFEND! is simple- it is economically prudent. I have been involved in foreclosures for more than forty years, and I have not been involved nor have I ever heard of any Bank willing to make a loan to the homeowner (even if secured by a second mortgage) to pay itself. An attorney would likely advise the homeowner to avoid any such loan and that attorney could use the example of the trap under which the nation of Greece has been placed. The European Union constantly ‘loans’ the needed money for Greece to be able to make its next scheduled payment. If a Homeowner had heartaches paying one monthly mortgage payment, then adding a second monthly mortgage payment generally would seem to be imprudent. I recommend each home owner consider opposing his Bank’s attempt to foreclose by using an attorney to file an answer and where appropriate a counterclaim.

Bill Gates of Microsoft fame has a proposal, “The robot that takes your job should pay taxes.” Robots are displacing human workers faster than replacement jobs can be created About 47% of today’s jobs are vulnerable to automation. R2D2 and CP-320 were cute in the Star War movies but I don’t think they will be so cute to you when you come in to work on Monday and find one of them siting in YOUR CHAIR at YOUR DESK talking to YOUR BOSS. You have to think about this for a minute. Robots don’t eat, sleep on the job, take extra-long breaks or vacation time, call in sick with the flu or argue with fellow workers and they don’t join a union.Robots can perform what I call the 3 D’s, jobs humans find Dull, Dangerous or Difficult either labor intensive or mundane. Robots can be adapted to variety of tasks, Industry, Farming, Medicine the Military and Space to name a few.

The flood Gates are now open, no pun intended to Mr. Bill Gates but I think he has a great idea. Let’s just sit back and see what our government says and thinks about it. Our local communities depend on local tax withholding to run their communities and the state and federal want their coffers full also. Without an employee’s payroll withholding tax everything stops. So, Mr. Robot do we or don’t we put a tax on you? In the next 20 years, your newborn child or grandchild will probably NOT BE WORKING in the jobs mention below. Robby the robot would have silently absorbed his or her job. Here is a summary and their percentage of jobs that will be replaced by robots. Dick Tracy was way ahead of his time with the wrist radio and the Jetson’s way of life is already here. What was once Science Fiction has now become the everyday norm. So, look to the heavens, it might be our new neighborhoods that you are gazing at. Here is to our future, move over R2D2, I’ll drive this time.

Defense Secretary Gen. James Mattis weighed in on several national security issues in his interview with CBS’ John Dickerson, which aired Sunday on Face the Nation. The experienced general shared his opinion on NATO and the Paris climate agreement, while offering sneak peeks of how the U.S. plans to respond to Russian threats, the rise of ISIS, and North Korea’s ballistic missile tests. Let’s Make ‘Never Again’ a RealityBy Jennifer Breedon

Last month marked Holocaust Remembrance Day and Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. While we mourned the six-million Jews who were murdered by Adolf Hitler during World War II and the 1.5 Armenians who were slaughtered by the Turks between 1915 and 1917, I can only wonder if, in the future, we’ll be commemorating the genocide of the Christians and Yazidis in the Middle East– a genocide that’s happening today which most of us (Editor’s comment: Especially the Roman Catholic Church, Catholic Charities, Priest and Nuns) have sat by, purposely blinded to the atrocities. This week, the remembrance days marked the brutal genocidal regimes that plagued the 20th Century, regimes whose intent was to target and destroy entire religious and ethnic groups. On these days, we should not only remember the atrocities of Adolf Hitler and the Young Turks, but we must also consider the words of present day world leaders who hide their same genocidal intent under the auspices of destroying the state of Israel: Palestinian leaders who don’t recognize the right of Israel to exist; Iranian leaders who call for Israel to be wiped off the map. Today, along with the Jews, the targets in the Middle East are the Christians and Yazidis. Yet, few political leaders accept that a genocide is occurring. A few weeks ago in Mosul, Iraq, an 11-year-old girl was freed from the slave-holds of ISIS by Iraqi forces. She was eight years old when she was first kidnapped by the brutal Islamist terror group. She was taken in 2014 along with several of her family members. Counter-terrorism experts in the region note it’s possible that over 3,000 young girls still remain enslaved by ISIS. Their lives consist of violent sex, gang rape and forced motherhood to breed the next generation of jihadis. The young girl is from the same village as Nadia Murad, a young Yazidi woman who was kidnapped and held as a sex slave by ISIS and who is now a U.N. ambassador who is filing suit against ISIS at The Hague for war crimes . The young girl’s mother and sisters—who were also sold into slavery—are now in Germany where many Yazidi slaves were sent following a campaign by a number of organizations and the German government to buy the Yazidi girls back from ISIS. This is just one of thousands of stories of the ongoing attempt by ISIS to wipe out the Christians and Yazidis in the Middle East and beyond. In Iraq, ISIS marked Christian houses with the letter “N” for Nazerene (i.e., followers of Jesus of Nazareth), just as the Nazis marked the Jews with a yellow star of David in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s. The indescribable torture these current victims endured is only equal to the battle those that survived now face to recover from the trauma ISIS to which subjected them. While we rightly grieve the genocides of the past, today’s pending genocide is something we can stop. We must not ignore the genocide of the present just as those who ignored the suffering of the Jews or Armenians while it was ongoing. Let our children and grandchildren not have to mark “Christian/Yazidi Genocide Remembrance Day” in 50 years, once it is too late to stop it.Jennifer Breedon is an attorney and the legal analyst for Clarion Project. The Bedford 152nd Memorial Day Parade 2017, a Day of Great Remembrance! It is with deep appreciation for all who participated in the Bedford Memorial Day event. I want to thank Mike Guyer for all his efforts to make this event happen. This is the 152nd annual event. Originally called “Remembrance Day,” later called “Decoration Day” and finally “Memorial Day.” All these names are very appropriate, because there was a celebration of remembrance by the living in honor of those who had fought for our freedom and paid the ultimate price. When you look at the Civil War Monument with the Union Soldier facing north, you are looking at a tribute to fighting men who fought at Antietam, Resaca, Stone River and Vicksburg and many more battles not on the monument. The Civil war is long past, but President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address still rings true today and well worth repeating: “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to

the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate—we cannot consecrate—we cannot hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom— and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” I was born in 1943, a war baby! I remember the many stories my relatives who served during wartime told. My cousin Harry Plisevich was in the 101st Airborne Division and dropped behind enemy lines on “D” Day. He was at Bastogne during the” Battle of the Bulge.” He had so much shrapnel in his back that when he became ill late in life, the doctors did an x-ray, all through his back the x-rays showed every piece of metal he had lived with since the WW-2! He was very highly decorated. Another cousin, Bill Toth, was a bombardier in a B-17. Bill was in the lead B-17 the first time Berlin was bombed. He was also in the lead plane that bombed the V-2 manufacturing facilities at Peenemunde, Poland. His plane was shot down over the North Sea. He was able to bail out and was rescued after spending hours in a small personal raft in the frozen waters of the North Sea. Bill flew again and was one of those who completed 25 bombing missions. My Uncle Henry Mestnik was in the glider service that landed in France. My cousin Bill Deak of Walton Hills fought in the Korean War by serving on the USS New Jersey BB-62. In 1965, after graduating from Purdue University, the first correspondence I received in

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Leads Ohio House in Re-Introducing Bill to Address Ohio Drug Epidemic

Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11), with Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) and Congresswomen Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) and Joyce Beatty (OH-3), introduced The Breaking Addiction Act of 2017. As Ohio continues to grapple with a deadly heroin/opioid epidemic, this legislation breaks down barriers to treatment and increases the number of beds available for patients suffering from substance use disorder. Under current law, the Institutions for Mental Diseases (IMD) exclusion prohibits Medicaid matching payments for services provided in treatment facilities that have more than 16 beds. The Breaking Addiction Act removes this outdated policy, allowing states to better utilize Medicaid to serve more people. “Too many Ohioans in the 11th Congressional District suffer from substance abuse, and they are not alone. Our state and nation are in the middle of a deadly epidemic that, if it continues, will have devastating effects on our future,” said Congresswoman Fudge. “While many seek care, they are turned away because communities cannot meet the demand for treatment. By getting rid of the antiquated IMD exclusion, The Breaking Addiction Act not only increases access to treatment, but gives states the flexibility and resources they need to save lives.” “Each day I turn on the news and learn about another life taken too soon because of heroin or prescription drug abuse. As a country, we must do more to ensure these men and women have access to the care that is desperately needed, and that means taking a hard look at our current treatment structure. That is why I am proud to join Congresswoman Fudge in introducing The Breaking Addiction Act, which addresses the growing drug crisis and increases access to addiction treatment. Not another day should go by that a person can’t find help due to this outdated system. As Democratic Co-Chair of the Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus, I will continue to urge my congressional colleagues to move this legislation forward and help combat this ongoing epidemic,” said Congressman Ryan. “Families and communities devastated by the tragedy of opioid addiction need relief. Empty promises and shell game budget maneuvers will not stem the tide of suffering and heartache that so many families endure as a result of the opioid crisis in America. I urge Congress to pass this bill because drug addiction is a crippling disease and it deserves the same level of treatment and care as other illnesses,” said Congresswoman Kaptur. “Every day, on average, nearly 10 Ohioans die from an accidental opioid overdose. In fact, the State of Ohio has the unfortunate distinction of having the most opioid-related overdoses than any other state in the nation. These startling statistics are proof positive that we need to do more to help Ohioans—and Americans across the country—struggling with addiction get the treatment they need. The Breaking Addiction Act will do precisely that. I thank Congresswoman Fudge for introducing this important piece of legislation, and will work with her and the entire Ohio Democratic Congressional delegation to get this much-needed bill signed into law,” said Congresswoman Beatty. The Breaking Addiction Act was first introduced by Reps. Fudge and Ryan in 2014 directing the Secretary of HHS to accept state IMD exclusion waiver applications. The 2017 version enhances the previous legislation by getting rid of the IMD exclusion completely to reduce red tape and allow states, like Ohio, to address the growing drug epidemic faster.

Trump Discovers Obama Was Spending $300 Million on Fake Afghan Soldiers, Gives Pentagon New Orders!

Millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars were being foolishly wasted paying for the salaries of non-existent “ghost” soldiers and policemen in Afghanistan under the Obama administration, but no more. According to the special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, John Sopko, who recently sat down for an interview with Sharyl Attkinson of Full Measure, the ongoing problem may have been worse than anyone realized, but was being addressed by President Donald Trump’s Pentagon. “We’ve been raising this concern about ghosts going back a number of years,” Sopko said. “Actually I want to say we heard about it from (Afghan President) Ashraf Ghani years ago, before he became president, he warned me about ‘ghosts,’ so we started looking three years ago. What we’re talking about are policemen, Afghan policemen, Afghan military, Afghan civil servants who don’t exist or they have multiple identity cards and we’re paying their salaries,” he explained. “By ‘we’ I mean the United States and the international community. And we started finding out that we had no capacity to measure the number of soldiers, teachers, doctors, military people who we are paying their salaries.” Fox News reported in October that the fraud could have amounted to more than $300 million annually. Asked if this indicated fraud had been taking place, Sopko replied: “Major fraud. And what’s happening is the commanders or generals or other higher officials are actually pocketing the salaries of the ghosts. And I remember President Ghani again, at that time he wasn’t president, saying, ‘John, you the United States government are paying the salary of an Afghan who’s a teacher, he’s a civil servant, he’s a doctor, he is a policeman, and he’s a soldier. And it’s the same Afghan. And he doesn’t exist,’” Sopko explained. “It’s not just the salaries,” he added. “But we’re funding schools based upon the number of students, so if you invent or inflate the number of students, you’re going to be paying more money. On the soldiers and the police, we’re paying for extra boots, for food, for everything else, logistics for numbers that don’t exist.” Sopko had alerted the Pentagon on numerous occasions to what he had discovered in 2016, but little was done to address the issue by the administration of President Barack Obama, though Fox News reported that the Pentagon had stated at the time that they would soon implement certain measures to try and combat the rampant fraud bilking U.S. taxpayers of hundreds of millions of dollars. Guided by the new no-nonsense leadership of the Defense Department under Trump, it would appear that those measures, among many others, were being implemented in Afghanistan with measurable results. According to the Independent Journal Review, Attkinsson noted that the Pentagon had implemented a biometric system that checked such things as fingerprints, photographs and even blood type in an effort to obtain “proof of life” of Afghan service members in order to weed out the non-existent “ghosts” that have cost taxpayers so much. In fact, the Pentagon claimed that it had already enrolled in the program “up to 95 percent of the Afghan police and 70-80 percent of soldiers” in the Afghan National Army. While it is highly doubtful that any of the taxpayer dollars lost through this fraud will ever be recovered, at least steps have been taken to ensure more dollars aren’t similarly wasted in the seemingly never-ending bid to reconstruct Afghanistan.Editor’s comment: Does this story really surprise you? the mail was a post card stating I was no longer a Deferred College student, but was 1-A for the draft. I chose to join the Navy and served my country on the USS Wedderburn DD-684 in the Golf of Tonkin off the shores of North and South Vietnam. I earned by battle ribbons during two tours supporting the ground troops with artillery fire from 5 – 5” 38 cannons. Many of us who have served are appalled at the accumulated effect of dishonorable people serving today in Washington DC. The average salary of these of government working clowns is $126,000 per year with life-long benefits and pensions. They have created personal political swamps of incompetents who need to be eliminated. President Trump is eliminating wasteful programs that long ago have passed their useful purpose. The resistance to their elimination is compounded by the likes of the Democratic and Republican leadership in the House of Representatives and the Senate. What these leaders’ actions are, border on treason. It is high time that all of Washington remembers why this country exists. As President Lincoln so adequate expressed, “. . . and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Both Democrats and Republicans should be ashamed of the massive deficits and incompetence now occurring. The Decadent Veil, Black America’s Wealth IllusionBy George Fraser, PhD

I write this piece following the ground work laid by W.E.B. Dubois’s Veil of Double Consciousness. The veil he described was a visualization of the racial duality blacks take on as part of their American identity. I now undertake the daunting task of clarifying the new veil of economics that has covered the struggles of a generation. The decadent veil looks at black Americans through a lens of group theory and seeks to explain an illusion that has taken form over a 30-year span of financial deregulation and new found access to unsecured credit. This veil is trimmed with million-dollar sports contracts, Roc Nation tour deals and designer labels made for heads of state. As black celebrity invited us into their homes through shows like MTV cribs, we forgot the condition of overall African American financial affairs. Despite a large section of the 14 million black households drowning in poverty and debt the stories of a few are told as if they represent those of millions, not thousands. It is this new veil of economics that has allowed for a broad swath of America to become not just desensitized to black poverty, but also hypnotized by black celebrity. How could we not? Our channels from ESPN to VH1 are filled with presentations of black Americans being paid a king’s ransom to entertain. As black celebrity has been shown to millions of people, millions of times, the story of real lives has also been lost, and with it the engine that thrust forward the demand for social justice by the masses. The heartbeat of social action is to recognize your mistreatment, and demand better. With each presentation of Kobe Bryant’s 25 million dollar a year contract, or Oprah’s status as the sole African American billionaire a veil of false calm is created within the overall American economic psyche about the immense black wealth disparity. Young black men from ghettos across America that used to dream to make great changes in racial inequity now just dream to be a millionaire and be like mike and dunk a ball or dance on a stage. The decadent veil not only warps the black community’s vision outward to a larger economic world, but it also distorts outside community’s view of Black America’s actual financial reality. Federal Reserve numbers show the median net worth (Assets less Debts) for white households in the top 1 percent is about $8.3 Million dollars. While median net worth for all white households is $112,000 - this is the exact midpoint of America’s 90 million white families, where half or 45 million families have more and the other half possesses less. That makes for a staggering 74 times less wealth for an average white household when compared to the asset holdings of the top 1 percent of white homes. This is among the highest levels of income stratification between classes in the developed world. Yet, the wealth difference between the American black household in the top 1 percent and the average black household is several times worse. As reported by MSNBC the median net worth of the few black households in the top 1 percent was $1.2 million dollars, while according to the Census median net worth for all black households was about $6,000 in total. A black family in the 1 percent is worth a staggering 200 times that of an average black family. If black America were a country we would be among the most wealth stratified in the world. It is because of this concentration of wealth that any view of averages is destroyed for black America, the disparity between rich and poor is too high. When a few families have a massive percentage of wealth it pulls the average up so astronomically that it makes the mean present a false narrative. The key in this kind of stratification is to look closely at the median and understand its real world impact. Looking more closely at the numbers according to MSNBC the Grio Black America is a mere 1.4 percent of the Top 1 percent of households. That means only 16,400 black households of the total 14 million black families are in the top 1 percent. Yet based on the regularity with which media flaunts young black men signing million dollar sports and music contracts, and the frequency with which they display fabulous videos with African Americans in expensive cars and houses you would think a larger percentage of us were rich. The sad truth is that added together all black households are worth a mere $1.4 trillion of the $80 trillion of total U.S. household net worth. A group that is 13 percent of the U.S. population and built one of the the wealthiest countries the world has known as slave labor controls less than 1.75 percent of that country’s household wealth. With a massive amount of the small slither in the hands of a small black elite. According to the Pew Research Study, 35 percent of Black households have Negative or No Net Worth. Another 15 percent have less than $6,000 in total household worth, that’s nearly 7 million of the total 14 million black households that have little or no security. The veil created by mass media, sports organizations and our own psyche in Black America is one of safety through presentation. It is an inversion of the same model implemented by Dr. Martin Luther King so many years ago, except where Dr. King instilled global empathy by showing images of Bull Conner’s disciples water hosing black teenagers. Instead NBA commissioner Adam Silver hands black teenagers million-dollar deals and ESPN then projects that as a normal image of black life across the globe creating apathy for Black America’s truly dire financial straits. This all being shown despite there being a prison rate amongst young African American males that is higher than we have seen in any modern society in history. While media projects Beyonce signing a Pepsi $50 million ad campaign throughout the World Wide Web, the fact that single Black mothers across America have a median net worth of a mere $5 dollars falls in the shadow of the singularity of her financial success. Even though their numbers are infinitesimal in comparison to the whole of Black America the 21st century million dollar black celebrity’s image has grown to a point of normalcy in homes across the world. So much so that the lives of those struggling financially in urban centers across America have become overcast by the projection of these larger than life individual brands. The issue is our veiled mask glazed with decadent trim has in many ways hidden the true consequence of our historical scars. Without that veil removed, we project progress that has not yet occurred, and in doing so perpetuate an illusion that may in the end destroy us all. “To be a poor man is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hardships.” W.E.B. Dubois - Souls of Black Folks Dr. Fraser is considered by many to be a powerful voice for African Americans and one of the foremost authorities on networking and economic development. UPSCALE magazine name him one of the “Top 50 Power Brokers in Black America”. Black Enterprise Magazine called him “Black America’s #1 Networker” on a cover issue. Personal growth “guru” Stephen Covey called Dr. Fraser “a masterful teacher”. Television host and journalist, Tavis Smiley called him a “visionary with the rare combination of leadership and management skills.

FBI Found New Email Suggesting Lynch Made Sure Clinton Email Probe ‘Didn’t Go Too Far’

FBI Director James Comey has become a persona non grata in Washington D.C. for his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation. Democrats pin the blame of Clinton’s election loss on Comey’s shoulders for his Oct. 28 letter to Congress in which he announced the FBI had “learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.” Republicans say Comey shirked his duty as the director of the FBI by assuming the role of a prosecutor in recommending no charges against Clinton in a July 5 news conference. Trump Fires Comey After Justice Department Said He Should Go. Caught in the middle, Comey says he was boxed in by former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. “Her meeting with President Clinton on that airplane was the capper for me, and I then said, you know what, the [Justice Department] cannot, by itself, credibly end this,” Comey testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday. A new email obtained by the FBI lends credibility to Comey’s statement and suggests Lynch’s tarmac meeting with the former president wasn’t the only way she interfered with the Clinton email investigation. The email, written by a Democratic operative, indicated Lynch would do “whatever it took to prevent criminal charges to be brought against Hillary Clinton in the email probe,” said Fox News reporter Catherine Herridge. Herridge said Sen. Chuck Grassley’s, R-Iowa, acknowledgment of the email was “one of the most significant headlines” to come out of Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. “The New York Times recently reported that the FBI had found a troubling email among the ones the Russians hacked from Democrat operatives,” Grassley said Wednesday. “The email reportedly provided assurances that Attorney General Lynch would protect Secretary Clinton by making sure the FBI investigation ‘didn’t go too far.’ How and when did you first learn of this document? Also, who sent it and who received it?” Grassley asked Comey. Comey said he was unable to answer Grassley’s question “because it would call for a classified response.” Herridge reported there is an ongoing Justice Department Inspector General’s investigation into both Lynch’s and Comey’s actions during the Clinton email investigation. If the contents of the email are true — if Lynch was using her position as attorney general to protect Hillary Clinton — it may explain why Comey felt compelled to play the role of a prosecutor in his July 5 press conference. Comey said Wednesday that Lynch’s actions forced him to do something he never thought he would have to do. “Step away from [the Justice Department], tell the American people, ‘Look, here’s what the FBI did, here’s what we found, here’s what we think.’ That offered us the best chance of the American people believing in the system,” Comey said. “That was a hard call for me to make — to call the attorney general that morning to do a press conference and I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to say,” Comey said. “And I said to [Lynch], ‘I hope some day that you’ll understand why I think I have to do this.’”

The testing process for this position will include a written exam, and police physical agility exam. A police physical agility exam will be administered on May 14, 2017 and June 11, 2017 and the written exam will be administered on June 10, 2017. The Bedford Civil Service Commission will establish a certified list of police officer candidates based on the results of the testing performed by Tri-C. Additional points will be awarded for City of Bedford residency, military service, sworn police officer or O.P.O.T.A. certificate, and bachelor degree or associate degree from an accredited university. Qualified candidates must have at least a high school diploma or a G.E.D, as well as valid driving privileges. In addition to Tri-C requirements, candidates will be required to complete a City of Bedford candidate application package which must be filed with the City of Bedford’s Finance Department located at 165 Center Road, Bedford, Ohio 44146 from the period May 10, 2017 through June 16, 2017 between the hours of 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. The application package is available on City of Bedford’s web site at www.bedfordoh.gov or at Bedford City Hall. This application package will include information on how to obtain points for residency, military service, sworn police officer points or O.P.A.T.A certification, and bachelor or associate degree. The completed application must be returned in person with a valid driver license. Candidates will be required to successfully complete an extensive background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological examination, personal interview, drug testing (the City of Bedford Civil Service Commission utilizes the FBI Employment Drug Use Disqualifiers for any job candidates) and medical exam. The tie breaker between candidates will be the fastest time from the police physical agility exam’s 1 ½ mile run.

At about 09:00 on 3 June, Ensign Jack Reid, piloting a PBY from U.S. Navy patrol squadron VP-44,spotted the Japanese Occupation Force 500 nautical miles (580 miles; 930 kilometres) to the west-southwest of Midway. He mistakenly reported this group as the Main Force. Nine B-17s took off from Midway at 12:30 for the first air attack. Three hours later, they found Tanaka’s transport group 570 nautical miles (660 miles; 1,060 kilometres) to the west. Under heavy anti-aircraft fire, they dropped their bombs. Although their crews reported hitting 4 ships, none of the bombs actually hit anything and no significant damage was inflicted. Early the following morning, the Japanese oil tanker Akebono Maru sustained the first hit when a torpedo from an attacking PBY struck her around 01:00. This was the only successful air-launched torpedo attack by the U.S. during the entire battle. At 04:30 on 4 June, Nagumo launched his initial attack on Midway itself, consisting of 36 Aichi D3A dive bombers and 36 Nakajima B5N torpedo bombers, escorted by 36 Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighters. At the same time, he launched his 8 search aircraft (one from the heavy cruiser, one launched 30 minutes late). Japanese reconnaissance arrangements were flimsy, with too few aircraft to adequately cover the assigned search areas, laboring under poor weather conditions to the northeast and east of the task force. As Nagumo’s bombers and fighters were taking off, 11 PBYs were leaving Midway to run their search patterns. At 05:34, a PBY reported sighting 2 Japanese carriers and another spotted the inbound airstrike 10 minutes later. American radar picked up the enemy at a distance of several miles, and interceptors were scrambled. Unescorted bombers headed off to attack the Japanese carriers, their fighter escorts remaining behind to defend Midway. At 06:20, Japanese carrier aircraft bombed and heavily damaged the U.S. base. Midway-based Marine fighters, which included 7 F4Fs and 21 F2As, intercepted the Japanese and suffered heavy losses, though they managed to destroy 4 B5Ns and at least 3 A6Ms. Within the first few minutes, 3 F4Fs and 13 F2As were destroyed, while most of the surviving U.S. planes were damaged, with only 2 remaining airworthy. American anti-aircraft fire was intense and accurate, destroying 4 additional Japanese aircraft and damaging many more. Of the 108 Japanese aircraft involved in this attack, 11 were destroyed, 14 were heavily damaged, and 29 were damaged to some degree. The initial Japanese attack did not succeed in neutralizing Midway: American bombers could still use the airbase to refuel and attack the Japanese invasion force, and most of Midway’s land-based defenses were intact. Japanese pilots reported to Nagumo that a second aerial attack on Midway’s defenses would be necessary if troops were to go ashore by 7 June. Having taken off prior to the Japanese attack, American bombers based on Midway made several attacks on the Japanese carrier force. These included 6 Grumman Avengers, detached to Midway from the USS Hornet’s VT-8 (Midway was the first combat mission for the VT-8 airmen, and the combat debut of the TBF), Marine Scout-Bombing Squadron 241 (VMSB-241), consisting of 11 SB2U-3s and 16 SBDs, plus 4 USAAF B-26s of the 18th Reconnaissance and 69th Bomb Squadrons, armed with torpedoes, and 15 B-17s of the 31st, 72nd and 431st Bomb Squadrons. The Japanese repelled these attacks, losing 2 fighters while destroying 5 TBFs, 2 SB2Us, 8 SBDs, and 2 B-26s. The first Marine aviator to perish in the battle, Major Lofton R. Henderson of VMSB-241, was killed while leading his inexperienced Dauntless squadron into action. The main airfield at Guadalcanal was named after him in August 1942. One B-26, after being seriously damaged by anti-aircraft fire, veered into a steep dive straight toward Akagi. Making no attempt to pull out of its run, the aircraft narrowly missed crashing directly into the carrier’s bridge, which could have killed Nagumo and his command staff. This experience may well have contributed to Nagumo’s determination to launch another attack on Midway, in direct violation of Yamamoto’s order to keep the reserve strike force armed for anti-ship operations. A B-17 attack misses Hiryū; this was taken between 08:00–08:30. A Shotai of 3 Zeros is lined up near the bridge. This was one of several combat air patrols launched during the day.

Nagumo’s dilemma In accordance with Japanese carrier doctrine at the time, Admiral Nagumo had kept half of his aircraft in reserve. These comprised two squadrons each of dive bombers and torpedo bombers. The dive bombers were as yet unarmed. The torpedo bombers were armed with torpedoes should any American warships be located. At 07:15, Nagumo ordered his reserve planes to be re-armed with contact-fused general purpose bombs for use against land targets. This was a result of the attacks from Midway, as well as of the morning flight leader’s recommendation of a second strike. This had been under way for about 30 minutes when, at 07:40, the delayed scout plane from Tone signaled that it had sighted a sizable American naval force to the east, but neglected to describe its composition. Later evidence suggests Nagumo did not receive the sighting report until 08:00. Nagumo quickly reversed his order to re-arm the bombers with general purpose bombs and demanded that the scout plane ascertain the composition of the American force. Another 20–40 minutes elapsed before Tone’s scout finally radioed the presence of a single carrier in the American force. This was one of the carriers from Task Force 16. The other carrier was not sighted. Nagumo was now in a quandary. Rear Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi, leading Carrier Division 2 (Hiryū and Sōryū), recommended that Nagumo strike immediately with the forces at hand: 18 Aichi D3A1 dive bombers each on Sōryū and Hiryū, and half the ready cover patrol aircraft. Nagumo’s opportunity to hit the American ships was now limited by the imminent return of his Midway strike force. The returning strike force needed to land promptly or it would have to ditch into the sea. Because of the constant flight deck activity associated with combat

air patrol operations during the preceding hour, the Japanese never had an opportunity to position (“spot”) their reserve planes on the flight deck for launch. The few aircraft on the Japanese flight decks at the time of the attack were either defensive fighters or, in the case of Sōryū, fighters being spotted to augment the Combat Air Patrol. Spotting his flight decks and launching aircraft would have required at least 30 minutes. Furthermore, by spotting and launching immediately, Nagumo would be committing some of his reserve to battle without proper anti-ship armament; he had just witnessed how easily unescorted American bombers had been shot down. Poor discipline caused many of the Japanese bombers to ditch their bombs and attempt to dogfight intercepting F4Fs. Japanese carrier doctrine preferred the launching of fully constituted strikes rather than piecemeal attacks. Without confirmation of whether the American force included carriers (not received until 08:20), Nagumo’s reaction was doctrinaire. In addition, the arrival of another land-based American air strike at 07:53 gave weight to the need to attack the island again. In the end, Nagumo decided to wait for his first strike force to land, then launch the reserve, which would by then be properly armed with torpedoes. In the final analysis, it made no difference; Fletcher’s carriers had launched their planes beginning at 07:00, so the aircraft that would deliver the crushing blow were already on their way. Even if Nagumo had not strictly followed carrier doctrine, he could not have prevented the launch of the American attack.

Attacks on the Japanese fleet The Americans had already launched their carrier aircraft against the Japanese. Fletcher, in overall command aboard Yorktown, and benefiting from PBY sighting reports from the early morning, ordered Spruance to launch against the Japanese as soon as was practical, while initially holding Yorktown in reserve in case any other Japanese carriers were found. Spruance judged that, though the range was extreme, a strike could succeed and gave the order to launch the attack. He then left Halsey’s Chief of Staff, Captain Miles Browning, to work out the details and oversee the launch. The carriers had to launch into the wind, so the light southeasterly breeze would require them to steam away from the Japanese at high speed. Browning therefore suggested a launch time of 07:00, giving the carriers an hour to close on the Japanese at 25 knots (46 km/h; 29 mph). This would place them at about 155 nautical miles (287 km; 178 mi) from the Japanese fleet, assuming it did not change course. The first plane took off from Spruance’s carriers Enterprise and Hornet a few minutes after 07:00. Fletcher, upon completing his own scouting flights, followed suit at 08:00 from Yorktown. Fletcher, along with Yorktown’s commanding officer, Captain Elliott Buckmaster, and their staffs, had acquired first-hand experience in organizing and launching a full strike against an enemy force in the Coral Sea, but there was no time to pass these lessons on to Enterprise and Hornet which were tasked with launching the first strike. Spruance ordered the striking aircraft to proceed to target immediately, rather than waste time waiting for the strike force to assemble, since neutralizing enemy carriers was the key to the survival of his own task force. While the Japanese were able to launch 108 aircraft in just seven minutes, it took Enterprise and Hornet over an hour to launch 117. Spruance judged that the need to throw something at the enemy as soon as possible was greater than the need to coordinate the attack by aircraft of different types and speeds (fighters, bombers, and torpedo bombers). Accordingly, American squadrons were launched piecemeal and proceeded to the target in several different groups. It was accepted that the lack of coordination would diminish the impact of the American attacks and increase their casualties, but Spruance calculated that this was worthwhile, since keeping the Japanese under aerial attack impaired their ability to launch a counterstrike (Japanese tactics preferred fully constituted attacks), and he gambled that he would find Nagumo with his flight decks at their most vulnerable. American carrier aircraft had difficulty locating the target, despite the positions they had been given. The strike from Hornet, led by Commander Stanhope C. Ring, followed an incorrect heading of 265 degrees rather than the 240 degrees indicated by the contact report. As a result, Air Group Eight’s dive bombers missed the Japanese carriers. Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT-8, from Hornet), led by Lieutenant Commander John C. Waldron, broke formation from Ring and followed the correct heading. The 10 F4Fs from Hornet ran out of fuel and had to ditch. Waldron’s squadron sighted the enemy carriers and began attacking at 09:20, followed by Torpedo Squadron 6 (VT-6, from Enterprise) whose Wildcat fighter escorts also ran low on fuel and had to turn back at 09:40. Without fighter escort, all 15 TBD Devastators of VT-8 were shot down without being able to inflict any damage. Of the 30 aircrew of VT-8, one man, Ensign George H. Gay, Jr., was the only survivor. VT-6 lost 10 of its 14 Devastators, and 10 of Yorktown’s VT-3’s 12 Devastators were shot down with no hits to show for their effort, thanks in part to the abysmal performance of their unimproved Mark 13 torpedoes. Midway was the last time the TBD Devastator was used in combat. The Japanese combat air patrol, flying Mitsubishi A6M2 Zeros made short work of the unescorted, slow, under-armed TBDs. A few TBDs managed to get within a few ship-lengths range of their targets before dropping their torpedoes—close enough to be able to strafe the enemy ships and force the Japanese carriers to make sharp evasive maneuvers—but all of their torpedoes either missed or failed to explode. Remarkably, senior Navy and Bureau of Ordnance officers never questioned why half a dozen torpedoes, released so close to the Japanese carriers, produced no results. The abysmal performance of American torpedoes in the early months of the war became a scandal. Torpedo after torpedo either missed by running directly under the target, prematurely exploded, or struck targets with textbook right angle hits (sometimes with an audible clang) and failed to explode. Despite their failure to score any hits, the American torpedo attacks indirectly achieved three important results. First, they kept the Japanese carriers off balance and unable to prepare and launch their own counterstrike. Second, the poor control of the Japanese combat air patrol (CAP) meant they were out of position for subsequent attacks. Third, many of the Zeros ran low on ammunition and fuel. The appearance of a third torpedo plane attack from the southeast by VT-3 from Yorktown at 10:00 very quickly drew the majority of the Japanese CAP to the southeast quadrant of the fleet. Better discipline, and the employment of a greater number of Zeroes for the CAP might have enabled Nagumo to prevent (or at least mitigate) the damage caused by the coming American attacks. By chance, at the same time VT-3 was sighted by the Japanese, three squadrons of SBDs from Enterprise and Yorktown were approaching from the southwest and northeast. The Yorktown squadron (VB-3) had flown just behind VT-3, but elected to attack from a different course. The two squadrons from Enterprise (VB-6 and VS-6) were running low on fuel because of the time spent looking for the enemy. Squadron commander C. Wade McClusky, Jr. decided to continue the search, and by good fortune spotted the wake of the Japanese destroyer Arashi, steaming at full speed to rejoin Nagumo’s carriers after having unsuccessfully depth-charged U.S. submarine Nautilus, which had unsuccessfully attacked the battleship Kirishima. Some bombers were lost from fuel exhaustion before the attack commenced. McClusky’s decision to continue the search and his judgment, in the opinion of Admiral

The Oakwood Village Scholarship Committee selected and awarded eight individual scholarships to graduating seniors in the amount of $1,000.00 each at the Senior Award Night on May 25, 2017, at the Bedford High School. Six (6) of these scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors from Bedford High School who reside in the Village of Oakwood and two (2) to graduating seniors from Bedford High School who did not reside in the Village of Oakwood. All students awarded these scholarships must be attending an accredited college of university in the Fall of 2017. The applicants were evaluated on the basis of grade point average, community service, extracurricular activities, honor and awards an essay, along with a personal interview with Committee Members. Viola M. Perry will be 100 years old on June 3, 2017. Born in Colbert, Oklahoma to the parents of James & Henrietta Randle.She was blessed with one sister, Beatrice and one brother, Jesse. Married to her childhood sweetheart, McRay Redmond and proud parents of one child, Jimmie R. Redmond. Widowed after illness took her childhood sweetheart. She worked at Oklahoma Air Depo as a junior aircraft mechanic making parts for B25 and B29 bombers and C47 cargo planes. Also patched holes on aircrafts damaged during World War II. Years later she met and married Charles Perry. In 1945 they all moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Faithful member of Lee Road Baptist Church 38 years. Retired from Nursing after 28 years at Veterans (Wade Park) Hospital. Charles Perry passed in 1989. Jimmie is her only child married to Patricia. Ms. Perry is blessed with 6 Grandchildren; 13 Great-grands and 6 Great-Great Grands. Resident of Cuyahoga County 72 years.

There is one kind of room in a house that is crucial to the running of a house, but that very few people like to talk about and that is the bathroom. In older homes, especially century homes, bathrooms can be tricky. Prior to the turn of the 20th century, many homes relied on outhouses for their daily potty routine. But as indoor plumbing became more available, bathrooms started to move indoors. While an indoor bathroom was more convenient, it was still considered a very utilitarian room. You did not build a grand and beautiful bathroom or even have multiple bathrooms because having a bathroom inside was a luxury unto itself. For this reason, even in grandiose homes like the Lamson House, it was not uncommon for there to be only one, relatively small bathroom. When the Lamson House was built, it had only one bathroom on the second floor, which had the best access for all of the family members. As time moved on though, the idea of a house that large with only one bathroom became ridiculous and so various owners wedged in new bathrooms where they could. On the first floor, a room off the kitchen and dining room that was previously a butler’s pantry was converted to a bathroom. On the third floor, a small corner of the nursery was sectioned off and a closet size bathroom was added. Even the unfinished basement got a toilet. Not technically a bathroom but still a toilet sitting installed under a staircase in the basement. Perhaps the owner at that time could only find peace for his business in the basement? When all of these bathrooms were added is difficult to say. I imagine that the bathroom that is in the previous butler’s pantry went in during the 1940s, but even that is a guess. The loss of the butler’s pantry for a bathroom makes me a little sad as that conversion would have removed a few details from the house that would be delightful to have now. For example, the house originally had a dumb waiter that ran from that pantry to the upper floors and lovely leaded glass cabinets that lined the walls and these were likely all removed at that time. But then again, a beautiful butler’s pantry and a dumb waiter, while interesting, are not nearly as useful as a bathroom on the first floor. Houses and rooms change in function as time passes and bathrooms in homes are an odd but important example of this.

Henry Jones fought in Korea against human waves of Chinese and Koreans whose only mission was to kill the Americans. No one ever wants to go to war and stare danger in the face, but what distinguishes these Americans is being born in the land of the free and the willingness to fight when necessary to keep this nation free for all men, women and their families. America is the land of opportunities, because we are the land of the free. The VFW Post 1082 members from my personal experience are the finest group of dedicated men and women. We are proud to call each other brothers, because we are all made of flesh and blood, who, were and are willing to go the extra mile to make this world a better place for all. together with their progeny, a total of 4.3 million. What do they promise in return? Nothing. Not to stop the riots, violence, intifadas. Not to stop teaching hate in their schools. Not to strive for real peace with their neighbor state, Israel. Ever. Meanwhile, an Islamic State (IS) jihadist, Abu Baker Almaqdesi, revealed their “big operation” to encircle Israel’s borders, and attack and expel the Jews from “occupied Palestine.” Concurrently, the Jerusalem Post reported that UNESCO is considering a resolution that will contest Israel’s sovereignty over western Jerusalem, home to all of Israel’s governing bodies. Washington Post reporter and Cairo bureau chief Sudarsan Raghavan wrote about the Arab League Summit on March 29, in his article, “In a message to Trump, Arab leaders renew calls for a Palestinian state,” but strategically omitted crucial information! He said that the Arab League called for fresh peace talks with reconciliation if Israel returns the “Arab lands it has occupied,” but the premise is completely fallacious. The territories to which he refers, the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) and eastern Jerusalem are not “Arab lands” or Palestinian lands, but lands in dispute by both parties because the Palestinians are challenging the internationally accepted rule that the aggressor has no lawful claim to land. Raghavan has not the authority to exchange the designations of ‘disputed territories’ for ‘occupied Arab lands.” Repeating the assertion does not bestow validity. The United Nations defines an act of aggression as being in contravention of the UN Charter, ruling that a war of aggression is always wrong. Further, the UN states that territorial acquisition or special advantage resulting from aggression is always unlawful. The Jews have maintained ties to their historic homeland for more than 3,700 years; if not for foreign conquerors, an independent Jewish state would, today, be 3,000 years old. Even after Jewish exile, small Jewish communities remained for 2,000 years, and in the early 20th century, returning Jews developed the land from a largely uninhabited wasteland with malarial swamps into a thriving, dynamic, productive society, recognized by legal documents. Only then did the Arabs begin to show an interest in the land. There has never been an independent Palestinian state; the allegations are yet another warfare strategy. By design, Raghayan does not clarify that Israel’s control of these disputed areas came from fighting and winning a defensive war; the Arabs were the aggressors. For example, after Germany’s defeat in World War I, the Treaty of Versailles placed punitive conditions on Germany, with significant financial reparations, loss of territory, humiliation and war guilt, yet the Arabs, despite their aggression and loss, are permitted to demand territory! Further, had Jordan not joined the war, it would not have lost the West Bank or eastern Jerusalem – over which it reigned for a mere 19 years. As the victorious defenders, Israel has no obligation to withdraw to the 1967 borders, to negotiate and offer compromises, particularly as the Palestinians continue their terrorist attacks against innocent Israeli citizens. Jordan’s King Abdullah has repeatedly blamed the region’s instability on the Palestinian cause, yet history confirms that the Middle East has, to this day, suffered from 7th century backwardness, ignorance, countless civil wars, sharia law’s brutality, and the rise of ISIS, none of which are related to Israel. The King’s focus on the Palestinian issue in the midst of so much internal strife in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen, is undoubtedly calculated to give the White House a false impression of Arab unity and agreement. Raghavan’s article suggests that Israel is inflexible, but Israel offered the Palestinians a contiguous state, withdrawal from 95% of the West Bank and 100% of Gaza, and to dismantle more than 100 of her own communities. Israel had also offered religious sovereignty over the Temple Mount and a right of refugee return with reparations, yet the Arabs rejected negotiations in 2000, 2001, and 2008. Neither does the bureau chief address Israel’s very legitimate security concerns. If Israel were to cede the Golan Heights, it would give ISIS the elevation advantage to shell Israeli citizens below and attack Tel Aviv and Israel’s major airport with impunity. In the past, Israeli children had been forced to sleep in bomb shelters. The Palestinian Authority was supposed to renounce terror and prohibit lethal weapons and violence on Israel, yet they give access to shiploads of explosives to arm the P.L.O. and Hamas, and continue their classes and summer camps, where they indoctrinate the Palestinian public and children to seek martyrdom by killing Israelis. Their teachings violate the letter and spirit of the peace agreements. They continue to be deadly partners for peace. Meanwhile, President Trump’s campaign promise of relocating the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is on hold. As with all ideas repugnant to Islam, the proposal is countered with threats of anger and violence. The Koran contains at least 109 versus that call Muslims to war for the sake of Islamic rule. Mohammed’s own martial legacy against all of “Infideldom” and the Koran’s stress of violence continue their trail of misery and death across 14 centuries of world history. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said a two-state solution was the “only path to ensure [that] Palestinians and Israelis can realize their national aspirations and live in peace, security and dignity.” Regrettably, he has no concept of their true national aspiration. If we

Chester Nimitz, “decided the fate of our carrier task force and our forces at Midway ...” All three American dive-bomber squadrons (VB-6, VS-6 and VB-3) arrived almost simultaneously at the perfect time, locations and altitudes to attack. Most of the Japanese CAP was focusing on the torpedo planes of VT-3 and were out of position, armed Japanese strike aircraft filled the hangar decks, fuel hoses snaked across the decks as refueling operations were hastily being completed, and the repeated change of ordnance meant that bombs and torpedoes were stacked around the hangars, rather than stowed safely in the magazines, making the Japanese carriers extraordinarily vulnerable. Beginning at 10:22, the two squadrons of Enterprise’s air group split up with the intention of sending one squadron each to attack Kaga and Akagi. A miscommunication caused both of the squadrons to dive at the Kaga. Recognizing the error, Lieutenant Commander Richard Halsey Best and his two wingmen were able to pull out of their dive and, after judging that Kaga was doomed, headed north to attack Akagi. Coming under an onslaught of bombs from almost two full squadrons, Kaga sustained four or five direct hits, which caused heavy damage and started multiple fires. One of the bombs landed near the bridge, killing Captain Jisaku Okada and most of the ship’s senior officers. Lieutenant Clarence E. Dickinson, part of McClusky’s group, dove on the Kaga:

We were coming down in all directions on the port side of the carrier ... I recognized her as the Kaga; and she was enormous ... The target was utterly satisfying ... I saw a bomb hit just behind where I was aiming ... I saw the deck rippling and curling back in all directions exposing a great section of the hangar below ... I saw [my] 500-pound bomb hit right abreast of the [carrier’s] island. The two 100-pound bombs struck in the forward area of the parked planes ...

Several minutes later, Best and his two wingmen dived on the Akagi. Mitsuo Fuchida, the Japanese aviator who led the attack on Pearl Harbor, was on the Akagi when it was hit, and described the attack:

A look-out screamed: “Hell-Divers!” I looked up to see three black enemy planes plummeting towards our ship. Some of our machineguns managed to fire a few frantic bursts at them, but it was too late. The plump silhouettes of the American Dauntless dive-bombers quickly grew larger, and then a number of black objects suddenly floated eerily from their wings.

Although Akagi sustained only one direct hit (almost certainly dropped by Lieutenant Commander Best), it proved to be a fatal blow: the bomb struck the edge of the mid-ship deck elevator and penetrated to the upper hangar deck, where it exploded among the armed and fueled aircraft in the vicinity. Nagumo’s chief of staff, Ryūnosuke Kusaka, recorded “a terrific fire ... bodies all over the place ... Planes stood tail up, belching livid flames and jet-black smoke, making it impossible to bring the fires under control.” Another bomb exploded under water very close astern; the resulting geyser bent the flight deck upward “in grotesque configurations” and caused crucial rudder damage. Simultaneously, Yorktown’s VB-3, commanded by Max Leslie, went for Sōryū, scoring at least three hits and causing extensive damage. Some of Leslie’s bombers did not have bombs as they were accidentally released when the pilots attempted to use electrical arming switches. Nevertheless, Leslie and others still dive-bombed, strafing carrier decks and providing covers for those with bombs. Gasoline ignited, creating an “inferno,” while stacked bombs and ammunition detonated. VT-3 targeted Hiryū, which was hemmed in by Sōryū, Kaga, and Akagi, but achieved no hits. Within six minutes, Sōryū and Kaga were ablaze from stem to stern, as fires continued to spread through the ships. Akagi, having been struck by only one bomb, took longer to burn, but the resulting fires quickly expanded and soon proved impossible to extinguish; she too was eventually consumed by the flames and had to be abandoned. All three carriers remained temporarily afloat, as none had suffered damage below the waterline, other than the rudder damage to Akagi caused by the near miss close astern. Despite initial hopes that Akagi could be saved or at least towed back to Japan, all three carriers were eventually abandoned and scuttled.

Japanese counterattacks Yorktown at the moment of impact of a torpedo from a Nakajima B5N of Lieutenant Hashimoto’s 2nd chūtai. Hiryū, the sole surviving Japanese aircraft carrier, wasted little time in counterattacking. Hiryū’s first attack wave, consisting of 18 D3As and 6 fighter escorts, followed the retreating American aircraft and attacked the first carrier they encountered, Yorktown, hitting her with three bombs, which blew a hole in the deck, snuffed out her boilers, and destroyed one anti-aircraft mount. The damage also forced Admiral Fletcher to move his command staff to the heavy cruiser USS Astoria. Repair teams were able to temporarily patch the flight deck and restore power to several boilers within an hour, giving her a speed of 19 knots (35 km/h; 22 mph) and enabling her to resume air operations. Thirteen dive bombers and three escorting fighters were lost in this attack (two escorting fighters turned back early after they were damaged attacking some of Enterprise’s SBDs returning from their attack on the Japanese carriers). The Yorktown had very a efficient fire suppressant system. Approximately one hour later, Hiryū’s second attack wave, consisting of ten B5Ns and six escorting A6Ms, arrived over the Yorktown; the repair efforts had been so effective that the Japanese pilots assumed that Yorktown must be a different, undamaged carrier. They attacked, crippling Yorktown with two torpedoes; she lost all power and developed a 23-degree list to port. Five torpedo bombers and two fighters were shot down in this attack. News of the two strikes, with the reports each had sunk an American carrier (actually both strikes had damaged, but not sunk, Yorktown), greatly improved morale in the Japanese carrier task force. Its few surviving aircraft were all recovered aboard Hiryū. Despite the heavy losses, the Japanese believed that they could scrape together enough aircraft for one more strike against what was believed to be the only remaining American carrier.

American counterattack Late in the afternoon, a Yorktown scout aircraft located Hiryū, prompting Enterprise to launch a final strike of 24 dive bombers (including 6 SBDs from VS-6, 4 SBDs from VB-6, and 14 SBDs from Yorktown’s VB-3). Despite Hiryū being defended by a strong cover of more than a dozen Zero fighters, the attack by Enterprise and orphaned Yorktown aircraft launched from Enterprise was successful: four, possibly five bombs hit Hiryū, leaving her ablaze and unable to operate aircraft. Hornet’s strike, launched late because of a communications error, concentrated on the remaining escort ships but failed to score any hits. After futile attempts at controlling the blaze, most of the crew remaining on Hiryū were evacuated and the remainder of the fleet continued sailing northeast in an attempt to intercept the American carriers. Despite a scuttling attempt by a Japanese destroyer that hit her with a torpedo and then departed quickly, Hiryū stayed afloat for several more hours, being discovered early the next morning by an aircraft from the escort carrier Hōshō and prompting hopes she could be saved, or at least towed back to Japan. Soon after being spotted, Hiryū sank. Rear-Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi, together with the ship’s captain, Tomeo Kaku, chose to go down with the ship, costing Japan perhaps her best carrier officer. It has been almost a year since Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was murdered in the nation’s capital. There have been no solid answers about why he was killed until now. Rich was shot in the back and killed last July in Northwest D.C and police have suggested the killing in the District’s Bloomingdale neighborhood was a botched robbery. However, online conspiracy theories have tied the murder to Rich’s work at the DNC. Just two months shy of the one-year anniversary of Rich’s death, FOX 5 has learned there is new information that could prove these theorists right. Family’s private investigator: There is evidence Seth Rich had contact with WikiLeaks prior to death Rod Wheeler, a private investigator hired by the Rich family, suggests there is tangible evidence on Rich’s laptop that confirms he was communicating with WikiLeaks prior to his death. Now, questions have been raised on why D.C. police, the lead agency on this murder investigation for the past ten months, have insisted this was a robbery gone bad when there appears to be no evidence to suggest that. Wheeler, a former D.C. police homicide detective, is running a parallel investigation into Rich’s murder. Wheeler said he believes there is a cover-up and the police department has been told to back down from the investigation. “The police department nor the FBI have been forthcoming,” said Wheeler. “They haven’t been cooperating at all. I believe that the answer to solving his death lies on that computer, which I believe is either at the police department or either at the FBI. I have been told both.” When we asked Wheeler if his sources have told him there is information that links Rich to Wikileaks, he said, “Absolutely. Yeah. That’s confirmed.” Wheeler also told us, “I have a source inside the police department that has looked at me straight in the eye and said, ‘Rod, we were told to stand down on this case and I can’t share any information with you.’ Now, that is highly unusual for a murder investigation, especially from a police department. Again, I don’t think it comes from the chief’s office, but I do believe there is a correlation between the mayor’s office and the DNC and that is the information that will come out [Tuesday].

The family of slain Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich has a message to the Wikileaks crowd: Stop with the conspiracy theories. After Wikileaks founder Julian Assange implied Rich was the source of the recent Democratic National Convention leak — and offered $20,000 for info on Rich’s murder — the grieving family slammed him for trying to “politicize this horrible tragedy.” “The family welcomes any and all information that could lead to the identification of the individuals responsible, and certainly welcomes contributions that could lead to new avenues of investigation,” Rich family spokesman Brad Bauman said in a statement to Business Insider Wednesday. “That said, some are attempting to politicize this horrible tragedy, and in their attempts to do so, are actually causing more harm than good and impeding on the ability for law enforcement to properly do their job.” Rich, 27, was shot in the back and killed while walking to his Washington, D.C. apartment and his killing remains unsolved. Assange suggested this week, without evidence, that Rich played a role in leaking emails that showed DNC officials disparaging the presidential campaign of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. The leak led to resignations for several DNC leaders. “Whistleblowers go to significant efforts to get us material and often very significant risks. As a 27 year-old, works for the DNC, was shot in the back, murdered just a few weeks ago for unknown reasons as he was walking down the street in Washington,” Assange told Dutch TV station Nieuwsuur. “I’m suggesting that our sources take risks and they become concerned to see things occurring like that.” Wikileaks then offered a $20,000 reward for information on Rich’s killer.

Iran's Forward Operating Base against the U.S.by Thomas Quiggin

Iran's aim is to use American's northern neighbor, Canada, as a "forward operating base" for influence operations against the American government. The Trudeau government has shown both a past and present affinity for dictatorial governments. Trudeau himself said he admires the government of the Peoples Republic of China and their "basic dictatorship." He publicly mourned the passing of Cuban President Fidel Castro. The statement made no note of the 60-plus years of dictatorship, and Cuba's brutal suppression of human rights. Among its teachings, the Ontario Jaffari Mosque's school suggested that boys should play sports so they can be "physically be ready for jihad whenever the time comes for it." Girls, on the other hand, were told that they should "stick to hobbies that prepare them to become wives and mothers. Iran and its Islamist regime is currently making a major effort to expand its footprint in Canada. Their aim is to use American's northern neighbour as a "forward operating base" for influence operations against the American government. In a recent video, Hassan Abbasi, a leadership figure in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was boasting about a "guerilla movement of Iranian agents living and working in the United States." Iran, he says, is leading a clandestine army of potential martyrs within the US. This does not seem to be an isolated event. Iranian diplomat Hamid Mohammadi said in 2012 there were many Iranian-Canadians "working in influential government positions" and called on others to "occupy high-level and key positions." Given Iran's history of exporting violence and terrorism, that Iranians on both sides of the border are discussing how they are infiltrating North America should be of concern. Iran has been forced to recalibrate its efforts during the past decade due to the shifting views of Canadian and American governments. The Obama Administration (2009-2017) gave virtual free rein to Iranian agents of influence. They were supported by a variety of Administration insiders such as Valerie Jarrett. When the Iranian Navy seized ten US Navy sailors and photographed them in humiliating positions, Vice President Joseph Biden described this as "just standard nautical practice". Predictably, Iran forced a US Navy female sailor to wear a hijab , possibly as a way of showing male dominance over an American female. The government of Canada had earlier allowed Iranian agents such as Faisal Larijani to build infrastructure and support. This included the Center for Iranian Studies, located in Toronto at 290 Sheppard Ave. W., which was incorporated in January 2008. When Prime Minister Harper (2006-2015) was elected, governmental support for Iran quickly dropped, culminating in the shuttering of the Iranian Embassy in 2012, using, as the leverage to remove them, the newly enacted "Justice for the Victims of Terrorism Act". The current situation has now reversed itself. The newly elected Trump Administration appears to be taking a much harder stand against Iran while Canadian Prime Minster Trudeau is committed to outreach to Iran and a possible re-opening of the Canadian and Iranian Embassies.

Today's Iran Iran remains listed as one of three global state sponsors of terrorism, along with Syria and Sudan, according to the US State Department. Canada also lists the Qods Force as a terrorism entity and states that it "is the clandestine branch of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responsible for extraterritorial operations, and for exporting the Iranian Revolution through activities such as facilitating terrorist operations." In addition, Iran also has one of the most dismal human rights records of any country. Human Rights Watch and others say that the human rights situation in Iran is "dire." Under the rule of the Ayatollahs, Iranian women confront serious discrimination on issues such as marriage, divorce, and child custody. Women have been sent to jail for publicly speaking out in favor of equal rights for women.

Canada and the Trudeau Government -- Unclear Intentions According to Canada's former Foreign Minister Stephan Dion (2015-2016), official talks with Iran on re-establishing diplomatic ties have already begun. This is not a surprise; Prime Minister Trudeau campaigned on the issue of doing just that. Some Canadian sanctions against Iran have already been lifted, as of February 2016. Canada also downgraded its warning against all travel to Iran -- despite ongoing arrests and the torture of a variety of Canadians and others. Trudeau's interest in re-establishing ties with Iran is not new. In 2014, while a Member of Parliament, Justin Trudeau gave an interview to the Montreal-based newspaper Sada al-Mashrek. This paper is openly known to be Khomeinist in nature and supports Iran (as well as Hezbollah). That Trudeau would speak to such a paper in the year before an election suggests he was already reaching out to Iranian regime support in Canada. During this interview, Trudeau also told the paper that he would have a special immigration program that was more open to "Muslims and Arabs." Foreign Minister, Chrystia Freeland, was appointed in 2017. Her views seem slightly more nuanced, but there has been no indication that she will not pursue the re-opening of the Canadian embassy in Iran or that of Iran in Canada. A spokesperson for Freeland put it this way in March of 2017: "We maintain our firm commitment to the human rights of Iranians. We continue to oppose Iran's support for terrorist organizations, its threats toward Israel, and its ballistic missile program." By contrast, she also stated:

"With these amendments to Canadian sanctions against Iran, Canadian companies will now be able to position themselves for new trade opportunities, but we will also maintain rigorous controls on any exports that raise serious proliferation concerns."

Liberal Member of Parliament Majid Jowhari hosted a delegation of three members of Iran's parliament in his home. The delegation included MPs Alim Yarmohammadi, Yonathan Betkolia and Mehrdad Lahooti and Ali Bahraini, who is listed as secretary of a development committee. While Joseph Pickerill, a spokesperson for then Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion, said that the delegation was not an official visit, such a highly unusual meeting raised eyebrows. Most recently, the Iran Canada Business Council and Export Quebec hosted a meeting on business opportunities in Iran after the lifting of sanctions. Among those invited to participate in this March 28, 2017 Montreal meeting (by Skype) was Medhi Karbasian, Iran's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade. He is also the Chairman of MIDRO (Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization), all of which appear to have commercial ties to the IRGC. Karbasian, has "a longstanding direct involvement in government companies." "His resume reads like a sanctions list -- at one point he was board member of UN-sanctioned IRISL; a board member of US- and EU-sanctioned NITC; chairs the US-sanctioned Parsian Bank; and, most importantly perhaps, vice-chairman on Kharazmi's board as representative of Sepehr Energy Co., a recently formed private energy company controlled by Bank Saderat."All offices of Bank Saderat worldwide are considered to be IRGC-designated affiliates. Iran and its Current Khomeinist Representatives in Canada Imam Rizvi, of the Jaffari Mosque in Thornhill, Ontario, is one of the leading proponents of the Iranian/Khomeinist ideology in Canada. He speaks to support the government of Iran and believes that the Khomeinist interpretation of Shia Islam is to take precedence over all matters. At a 2012

Carleton University conference, he stated: "Khomeini had proved that Islam is not just a religion of prayers and personal laws that only deals with matters of divorce and inheritance, rather it is a complete code of life that can govern all aspects of society — spiritual, material, as well as personal, social, economic and political aspects." The conference had been run to celebrate the anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Khomeini and was titled "The Contemporary Awakening and Imam Khomeini's Thoughts." Consistent with his Khomeinist masters, Imam Rizvi also believes and advocates that sex with 9-year-old girls is acceptable, as long as it occurs within munqati' (temporary) or da'im (permanent) marriage. His book on Marriage and Morals in Islam also says that girls/women can be entered into temporary marriages, apparently from the age of nine and upwards. In the eyes of many, 'temporary marriage' or muta is another word for prostitution. These muta marriages may be occurring now at the Jaffari Mosque. One of three schools run by the mysteriously well-funded Jaffari Mosque was also shut down during a 2012 hate crimes investigation. The teaching materials used by the mosque were from Iran (the Al Balagh Foundation) and from the Mostazafan Foundation of New York, which is identified as an arm of the Iranian government. Among its teachings, the mosque's school suggested that boys should play sports so they can be "physically be ready for jihad whenever the time comes for it." Girls, on the other hand, were told that they should "stick to hobbies that prepare them to become wives and mothers."

Iran and Canada: An Awkward Embrace? Canada and Iran have an unhappy history with respect to the treatment of each other's citizens. Iran beat, raped and tortured to death in 2003 Canadian citizen and freelance photographer Zahra Kazemi. Her "crime" was being a woman and having taken picture of a demonstration in 2003 in Tehran. Currently, Iran is holding Abdolrasoul Dorri Esfahani, an Iranian-Canadian. He is a member of the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants and a former adviser to Iran's Central Bank. He was, by all accounts directly involved in the $1.7 billion cash-for-hostages deal. He was indicted on spying charges in early March 2017. Canada, on the other hand, still has Mahmoud Reza Khavari Ban. He is believed to be responsible for a $2.6 billion fraud case which he helped orchestrated through several Iranian banks. One of the banks involved, Bank Melli, is believed to be an IRGC/Quds Force front and was involved in funding terrorism activities. Khavari had been a citizen of Canada since 2005 but returned to Iran shortly after getting his citizenship. The fraud in Iran apparently began in 2007, shortly after his return to his native country. This raises the question of whether Khavari sought Canadian citizenship earlier as a means of having a refuge after defrauding Iran. Either way, Khavari fled back to Canada in 2011 after details of the fraud began to emerge. Khavari's return and his kid-glove treatment by the government of Canada suggest to some that he must have struck some sort of deal with the government, perhaps in exchange for insider information on the government of Iran or its embassy in Canada. The Iranian embassy in Canada closed in 2012, not that long after his arrival. No concrete links have been drawn between the two events. Iran, however, still has an Interpol "Red Notice" on Khavari and still wants his extradition as of October 2016. How Prime Minister Trudeau would handle this case in the event of the reopening of Iran's Embassy in Ottawa is not clear. It would appear to be a major stumbling block to re-establishing normal relations. For Canada to allow extradition, Iran would have to waive the death penalty that is currently hanging over the head of Mr. Khavari. Iran has executed several other senior executives who were involved in the fraud, so this seems unlikely.

Outlook Iran shows every sign of doing a "full court press" on Canada to increase its footprint in Canada and provide it a forward operating base on the border of the USA. The Trudeau government, for its part, has shown both a past and present affinity for dictatorial governments. Trudeau himself says he admires the Government of the Peoples Republic of China and their "basic dictatorship." He publicly mourned the passing of Cuban President Fidel Castro in an official government statement describing him as "larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century." He also stated that the Cuban people had a deep and lasting affection for "el Comandante". The statement made no note of the 60-plus years of dictatorship, Cuba's brutal suppression of human rights nor its systemic persecution of gays. Trudeau's brother and political advisor is Alexandre "Sacha" Trudeau. Sacha Trudeau and the Iranian state-owned PressTV co-produced a fawning documentary entitled, "The New Great Game," which stated that Iran's nuclear program is for "defensive" purposes only, serving as an effective "deterrent" against Israeli "aggression" and belligerence. In an earlier documentary ("The Fence"), Sacha Trudeau profiled Zakaria Zubeidi, then leader of the terrorist group Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades portraying him as a Robin Hood-like "leader of the resistance." Given the history of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and based on his time in office to date, it appears likely that Iran will increase its influence activities in Canada, a dangerous development for the USA as it moves to confront Iran.Tom Quiggin, a court qualified expert on terrorism and practical intelligence, is based in Canada.

Muslim Brotherhood in Desperate Campaign in USBy Ran Meir

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is mounting a desperate campaign in the U.S. to avoid being designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, according to The Seventh Day, one of Egypt’s largest news outlets. The political winds have changed in Washington and the Brotherhood is running scared. U.S. President Donald Trump has made clear his support of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, announcing he stands with the Egyptian president in his fight against terror and extremist groups that are threatening one of America’s key allies in the Middle East. After tens of millions of Egyptians took to the streets to protest the abuse and power grabs of former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi (a member of the terrorist Brotherhood’s political party) in the summer of 2013, El-Sisi and the military took control of Egypt. He was elected president in 2014. El-Sisi’s recently successful meeting with Trump in Washington set a Brotherhood plan in motion to gain support of members of Congress and academia to block a move to designate the organization as terrorists. Lectures, discussions and events are being held in prominent American universities, including Harvard and Georgetown, about the “constructive contribution” the Brotherhood has made to Egypt since the Arab Spring began. For example, speaking under the title “The Nobility in Justice,” Mahmoud a-Sharkawi, a Brotherhood official in Washington, lectured about the “positive” role the Brotherhood has played in Egypt since January 25, 2011 (the date marking the beginning of the Arab Spring in Egypt) in a conference at St. John’s University in New York. The group is also reaching out to members of Congress, trying to re-brand the way it is perceived in Washington after al-Sisi’s successful visit. Testifying in Congress, Tarek a-Zimer, head of the Building and Development Party, the political party of the Egyptian Brotherhood, urged Americans to change their views about the organization. Other officials of the Brotherhood who attended the hearing used their presence to incite against el-Sisi and the current Egyptian government. Writing in a blog, A-Zimer asked, “Have the Americans internalized the lesson and fully understood the danger of the current situation to their interests?” Sources close to the Brotherhood say the purpose of the campaign being waged on American university campuses is to put pressure on Trump in light of the negative opinions about the Brotherhood that are now prevalent in Washington due to the change in administrations. What they fear most is a decision by the administration to designate the Brotherhood as a terror organization. Hisham a-Naggar, an Islamic scholar, agreed. He said the purpose of the Brotherhood campaign is to confront the new negative shift in American opinions toward the Brotherhood. These opinions include support for el-Sisi and allying with him against terror – positions that include a crackdown on Brotherhood activities. Formerly, having the support of the West (and the American president) was the Brotherhood’s “ace in the hole” – the most important card the group could play in its multi-faceted moves to take over Arab countries and their current regimes. Now that support has been taken away, and the group is reeling. Tarek al-Bashabishi, a former Brotherhhood official who now works against the organization, commented that ever since the Brotherhood lost power in June 2013, it’s been been inciting various Arab countries and international institutions against Egypt to weaken el-Sisi so the Brotherhood can return to power. Al-Bashabishi added that after Trump was elected, a huge political shift occurred. The U.S. administration is now against the Brotherhood and in support of el-Sisi’s fight against them. Now, he says, the Brotherhood’s only option is to try to bribe Trump’s rivals in Congress so they can be used as mouthpieces for the Brotherhood. He said the Brotherhood is engaged in a fight for its life, playing all its cards – including using financial support from Turkey and Qatar and the Brotherhood lobby in America – to avoid being designated as a terror organization. Al-Bashabishi also noted the same phenomenon in the UK, where he said the Brotherhood is trying to bribe members of the House of Commons to support the anti-Egypt opinions of the Brotherhood.

Middle Eastern Muslim Men Say We Want to Control WomenBy Meira Svirsky

Even though men in the Middle East clearly believe in a patriarchal system with limited equality for women, the system isn’t working so well for them, according to the results of a survey of 10,000 people across Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and the Palestinian territories. “There is the perception about the Arab Muslim region that the patriarchy clearly dominates and that it is fantastic for men,” said Shereen El Feki, who led the study, speaking to the BBC. Depending on the location, between 20-50 percent of men indicated that they were ashamed to face their families due to lack of money. El Feki said that the survey report suggested that “the patriarchy works for the very small minority who are on the top of that pyramid. For the rest down below, lots of women, but also from the results of the survey, many, many men, life is very tough.” Unsurprisingly, the majority of Muslim men – up to 90 percent in some locations – expected to have the right to control their wives’ freedoms, from what she wears to how often they have sex. A quarter of the men surveyed indicated that they did accept equality for women in some areas but believe that a woman’s primary role is in the home. Less than half of the men surveyed said that married women had the same right to work as men. They also stipulated this acceptance on two conditions: that the man remains the primary breadwinner and the women remain the ones primarily responsible for taking care of the household. However, a quarter of the men between the ages of 18 and 59 indicated that they wanted to spend more time caring for their children. They also supported certain laws that safeguard women as well as women in leadership positions. Opinions supporting gender equality among men do not seem to be correlated to age in the Middle East as in other locations around the world, except in Lebanon where younger men appear to have more liberal attitudes on this subject. “Younger women [are] much more open than their mothers or grandmothers, but younger men seem to be as conservative, perhaps even more so than their elders,” said El Feki. “The minority of men who do get their hands dirty in the kitchen… what you find is that those are the men who saw their fathers doing this at home,” El Feki added. Women, also seemed to hold more conservative opinions. Seventy percent of women surveyed said while they wanted to have the right to work, men should have priority when work is hard to come by. El Feki conducted the survey called The International Men and Gender Equality Study in the Middle East and North Africa for UN Women and Promundo, a global organization engaging men and boys in promoting gender equality and preventing violence.

May 1, 2017 another chapter was added to the book of “White People Are Racist;” which according to the perspective of many blacks, makes the book “Artamène ou le Grand Cyrus” by Madeleine de Scudéry, which is 13,095 pages spanning 10 volumes, pale in comparison. Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones was called racial epithets in the so-called friendly confines of Boston’s Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Look, I’m not making excuses and I’m not saying Jones or any other person shouldn’t be offended by the behavior of the fans. But that’s just it – they are fans. Put roughly 38,000 rabid sports fans in a stadium; supply them with all the booze they can drink and remain ambulatory, and things are bound to happen. Fans are rabidly prejudice against other others teams. And if you want to see just how much, go to a New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox game whether in the Bronx or Boston. I remind you that Philadelphia Eagles football fans threw beer and snowballs at Santa Claus. Go to an Oakland Athletics baseball game and you might want to wear a flack jacket – at least

if you’re black. Because if you are black and wear the wrong color shirt, hat, or scarf you can end up dead violating a gang’s color code. And let’s not forget fans that sit behind the visitors’ bench at professional basketball games specifically to unleash vitriolic name-calling and too antagonize the opposing players. My point is that a few drunks and/or a few predictably splenetic fans who believe the price they paid for their ticket entitles them to vent their hostilities toward players on opposing teams, doesn’t make the use of an occasional racial epithet an endemic. For years I was a Philadelphia Flyers hockey team season-ticket holder. The names and vulgar barbs the Flyers’ fans hurled at opposing players were nearly beyond belief. Sports fans are passionate in their hatred of other teams. Trust me, I am a lifelong New York Yankees fan and if the Boston Red Sox fell off the planet I would cheer. As I said, I’m not making excuses for unseemly behavior. However, I am sick of selective moral outrage by blacks. Where’s the moral outrage and the pathetic show of emotional injury by the very same blacks and their politically correct white sycophants bemoaning what happened to Adam Jones with respect to what black people did to Rachael Malonson? Blacks called Rachael Malonson hateful racial epithets, when the resplendently beautiful University of Texas student was crowned “Miss Black University of Texas.” Blacks verbally assaulted her and her family saying the beautiful young woman was “not black enough.” What makes black selective moral outrage even more reprehensible, Rachael Malonson was publicly scorned and attacked on social media at the exact same time blacks were playing victims over the Red Sox incident. Where was the moral outrage when Gabby Douglas, who won gold medals in gymnastics at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, was ruthlessly mocked by blacks making fun of her hair? I’m sick of seeing people like LeBron James, and countless other blacks slobbering and blubbering about racist white people and what black people must suffer. It’s difficult to decide if people engaged in selective moral outrage should be pitied or scorned. One fan or even a handful of fans calling an opposing player a racial epithet doesn’t make America or white Americans racist or bigots. Where was this pathetic cast of skin-color baiting troubadours when basketball legend Michael Jordan was eviscerated for marrying his wife who is Cuban? If you want to read raw racism and unparalleled hatred toward a black athlete, read the approximate 300 hundred venomous comments by black men and women about Jordan and his wife. Where is their outrage that real racists have murdered over 20 million unborn black children? Where is their outrage that approximately 36 percent of all abortions are performed on black women and that the most prolific murderer of black children is Planned Parenthood the progeny of Margaret Sanger who openly advocated black babies should be killed and that black women should be sterilized? As does Hillary Clinton, whom LeBron James and many other black athletes supported for president. Where is the outrage of these blubbering black ball players with regards to the murder rate of blacks by blacks in St. Louis, Louisiana, Michigan, Baltimore, and Chicago? A few half-drunk rabid fans shouting insults that are admittedly over-the-top, doesn’t diminish the duplicitous double standards of blacks nor their acrimony directed at those they deem as not representative of acceptable “blackness.” I suggest we make June 1, National Black Victim’s Day and have a celebratory gathering place in some deserted remote area where we could build a wall and keep them there permanently. Then the rest of Americans who actually do want to get along could live in peace.

There’s no doubt that Russia was behind the series of hacks and leaks against Democrats, Dan Coats said. In the first annual report to the Senate Intelligence Committee, Trump-appointed Dan Coats, the new Director of National Intelligence, declared Thursday that “only Russia’s senior-most officials could have authorized the 2016 U.S. election-focused data thefts and disclosures, based on the scope and sensitivity of the targets.” Coats’s assessment is consistent within the U.S. intelligence community’s own. The three largest intelligence agencies in the country, the National Security Agency, Central Intelligence Agency, and Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced that January that the hacks were ordered by the Russian government. That announcement echoed an even earlier statement, from October, coauthored by both the Office of the DNI and the Department of Homeland Security. The report also states that Russia will continue to try to influence U.S. politics, something that also echoes — a claim that Coats’s retired predecessor, James Clapper, made in a Senate Judiciary hearing Monday. “We assess that Russian cyber operations will continue to target the United States and its allies to gather intelligence, support Russian decision making, conduct influence operations to support Russian military and political objectives, and prepare the cyber environment for future contingencies,” the report says.Editor’s comment: The Russian, Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians, Israelis, Koreans, etc. are all tapping into the United States! Perverse and craven (these parasitic types have never had a courageous bone in their bodies), the media – along with the US indoctrination system formerly known as the “public school” system – in all of their many guises have diligently worked to transform the thinking of Americans. Now, that transformation begins as soon as toddlers can sit up to watch television. Ruling over us all from-cradle-to-grave is all the would-be demi-human globalist masters are demanding. And, like Islamic ISIS (not to be confused with the Roman goddess who was never known to behead humans), the US Islamo-

The goals of those who wish us to see them as “downtrodden,” “put upon” and “demeaned” because members of the US electorate were “stupid” in that they voted for now President Donald J. If we-the-people refuse to comply, these same unprincipled politicos have told us they will forge ahead with their unceasing shouts and Dem Congress members (and a few RINOs...notably John McCain) will continue their refusals to engage in their jobs and will, instead, buck up their under educated and paid ‘troops’ to continue their rioting, burning and pillaging against anyone who opposes their dark vision for mankind’s future. They will continue to harass us all until we remove President Trump from office. Make no mistake. Those who oppose individual freedom being replaced with the collective enslavement of group-think and actions are not pro-humanity. Those who want to control the human population via abortion and, likely, soon the regulation of the number of children allowed per family are not pro-human. Those who organize, spawn, foment and encourage violent attacks against any and all of their fellow citizens who disagree with their menacing and deviant ways are definitely not pro-humanity. The attacks against Constitutionalists are increasing almost exponentially each day. Conservative Constitutionalist (invited) speakers are being threatened by the Left with assaults at Universities nationwide and the Universities (recently and most notably University of California Berkeley) are now telling the anti-Communist speakers that they will have no police protection if they come. The leaders of these “bastions of higher learning” are telling the campus police forces to stand down if conservatives are attacked! Conservative Read stated that at UCB “according to YAF attorney prosecuting the case, the administrators instructed the police not to interfere in any anti-Coulter demonstrations no matter how violent, unless they endangered life. Of course this is nonsense because it’s pretty much impossible to know if life is endangered until someone is seriously hurt or killed. Obviously to be effective the police need to be prepared for the worst case scenario. “To give the police official cover for refusing to serve or protect as is their solemn duty, Chancellor Dirks issued a baldly disingenuous statement that gives the “heckler’s veto” the university’s stamp of approval.” President Trump is under one assault after another. Thus far, all of the news stories purporting that his ‘misdeeds’ rise to the level of impeachment have been discredited and proved to be malicious fake news mock-ups out of whole cloth by a progressively more virulent leftist attack-media. Note: Thus far, there have been no misdeeds proved to even successfully identified. We’re beginning to look more and more like Peronist Argentina. The supposed “Russian-connection” between President Trump and Putin has been investigated since – at least – July 2016...long before Trump was elected. Nothing has, to date, been found. The Democrats are throwing every attempt to create a Trump scandal they can find, in order to keep the president from doing his job for we-the-people. The Left’s latest attempt is the assertion by the Left’s ever-faithful fake-news source The New York Times that purports President Trump obstructed justice by telling Comey to stop the investigation of Michael Flynn. The NYT says there is a memo on it. Said memo has yet to be produced. Hmmm. Former FBI Director Comey knows full well that under 18 U.S. Code § 4 – Misprision of felony he was required to immediately report any suspected obstruction of justice. He did not. In fact, up until a day or so ago, he never even mentioned it. And, on 3 May 2017 Comey appeared before a Senate committee and said in answer to a committee member’s question that the Trump Administration “doesn’t obstruct investigations.” There is no “there...there” in any of these patently fabricated-by-the-Left fake stories against President Trump. Folks, all of this treacherous – and increasingly perilous for us all – fake news mischief is meant to bring down the US Republic so that the non-elected Marxist Dems can rule over us...again. Now, we even have a special counsel appointed. Bad move. This could go on forever and end any hope of Trump continuing to bring about his policies and programs, in order to actually make America great again. That’s the Democrat plan. The Left has even finally and negatively impacted the stock market with all of its lies and subterfuge. This must stop. We have entered a time period that could quite possibly end our country. And, the danger to us is coming from within the Democrat Party aided and abetted by the testosterone-free RINOs. It’s time to expunge the Left’s attempts to end our country. As darkness fell, both sides took stock and made tentative plans for continuing the action. Admiral Fletcher, obliged to abandon the derelict Yorktown and feeling he could not adequately command from a cruiser, ceded operational command to Spruance. Spruance knew the United States had won a great victory, but he was still unsure of what Japanese forces remained and was determined to safeguard both Midway and his carriers. To aid his aviators, who had launched at extreme range, he had continued to close with Nagumo during the day and persisted as night fell. Finally, fearing a possible night encounter with Japanese surface forces, and believing Yamamoto still intended to invade, based in part on a misleading contact report from the submarine USS Tambor, Spruance changed course and withdrew to the east, turning back west towards the enemy at midnight. For his part, Yamamoto initially decided to continue the engagement and sent his remaining surface forces searching eastward for the American carriers. Simultaneously, he detached a cruiser raiding force to bombard the island. The Japanese surface forces failed to make contact with the Americans because Spruance had decided to briefly withdraw eastward, and Yamamoto ordered a general withdrawal to the west. It was fortunate Spruance did not pursue, for had he come in contact with Yamamoto’s heavy ships, including Yamato, in the dark and considering the Japanese Navy’s superiority in night-attack tactics at the time, his cruisers would have been overwhelmed and his carriers sunk. Spruance failed to regain contact with Yamamoto’s forces on 5 June despite extensive searches. Towards the end of the day he launched a search-and-destroy mission to seek out any remnants of Nagumo’s carrier force. This late afternoon strike narrowly missed detecting Yamamoto’s main body and failed to score hits on a straggling Japanese destroyer. The strike planes returned to the carriers after nightfall, prompting Spruance to order Enterprise and Hornet to turn on their lights to aid the landings. At 02:15 on the night of 5/6 June, Commander John Murphy’s USS Tambor, lying 90 nautical miles (170 km; 100 mi) west of Midway, made the second of the submarine force’s two major contributions to the battle’s outcome, although its impact was heavily blunted by Murphy himself. Sighting several ships, neither Murphy nor his executive officer, Ray Spruance, Jr., could identify them. Uncertain of whether they were friendly or not and unwilling to approach any closer to verify their heading or type, Murphy decided to send a vague report of “four large ships” to Admiral Robert English, Commander, Submarine Force, Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC). This report was passed on by English to Nimitz, who then sent it to Spruance. Spruance, a former submarine commander, was “understandably furious” at the vagueness of Murphy’s report, as it provided him with little more than suspicion and no concrete information on which to make his preparations. Unaware of the exact location of Yamamoto’s “Main Body” (a persistent problem since the time PBYs had first sighted the Japanese), Spruance was forced to assume the “four large ships” reported by Tambor represented the main invasion force and so he moved to block it, while staying 100 nautical miles (190 km; 120 mi) northeast of Midway. In reality, the ships sighted by Tambor were the detachment of four cruisers and two destroyers Yamamoto had sent to bombard Midway. At 02:55 these ships received Yamamoto’s order to retire and changed course to comply. At about the same time as this change of course, Tambor was sighted and during maneuvers designed to avoid a submarine attack, the heavy cruisers Mogami and Mikuma collided, inflicting serious damage on Mogami’s bow. The less severely damaged Mikuma slowed to 12 knots (22 km/h; 14 mph) to keep pace. Only at 04:12 did the sky brighten enough for Murphy to be certain the ships were Japanese, by which time staying surfaced was hazardous and he dived to approach for an attack. The attack was unsuccessful and at around 06:00 he finally reported two westbound Mogami-class cruisers, before diving again and playing no further role in the battle. Limping along on a straight course at 12 knots—roughly one-third their top speed and only 1 knot faster than Tambor while submerged—Mogami and Mikuma had been almost perfect targets for a submarine attack. As soon as Tambor returned to port, Spruance had Murphy relieved of duty and reassigned to a shore station, citing his confusing contact report, poor torpedo shooting during his attack run and general lack of aggression, especially as compared to Nautilus, the oldest of the 12 boats at Midway and the only one which had successfully placed a torpedo on target (albeit a dud).This was in the context as referenced above of mistaken criticism of submariner performance for severe ineffectiveness of navy torpedoes, already reported as technical by submariners, but unaddressed until 1943. Over the following two days, first Midway and then Spruance’s carriers launched several strikes against the stragglers. Mikuma was eventually sunk by Dauntlesses, while Mogami survived further severe damage to return home for repairs. The destroyers Arashio and Asashio were also bombed and strafed during the last of these attacks. Captain Richard E. Fleming, a U.S. Marine Corps aviator, was killed while executing a glide bomb run on Mikuma and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. Meanwhile, salvage efforts on Yorktown were encouraging, and she was taken in tow by USS Vireo. In the late afternoon of 6 June, the Japanese submarine I-168, which had managed to slip through the cordon of destroyers (possibly because of the large amount of debris in the water), fired a salvo of torpedoes, two of which struck Yorktown. There were few casualties aboard, since most of the crew had already been evacuated, but a third torpedo from this salvo struck the destroyer USS Hammann, which had been providing auxiliary power to Yorktown. Hammann broke in two and sank with the loss of 80 lives, mostly because her own depth charges exploded. With further salvage efforts deemed hopeless, the remaining repair crews were evacuated from Yorktown, which sank just after 05:00 on 7 June.

Japanese and US casualties By the time the battle ended, 3,057 Japanese had died. Casualties aboard the four carriers were: Akagi: 267; Kaga: 811; Hiryu: 392; Soryu: 711 (including Captain Yanagimoto, who chose to remain on board); a total of 2,181. The heavy cruisers Mikuma (sunk; 700 casualties) and Mogami (badly damaged; 92) accounted for another 792 deaths. In addition, the destroyers Arashio (bombed; 35) and Asashio (strafed by aircraft; 21) were both damaged during the air attacks which sank Mikuma and caused further damage to Mogami. Floatplanes were lost from the cruisers Chikuma (3) and Tone (2). Dead aboard the destroyers Tanikaze (11), Arashi (1), Kazagumo (1) and the fleet oiler Akebono Maru (10) made up the remaining 23 casualties. At the end of the battle, the U.S. lost the carrier Yorktown and a destroyer. 307 Americans had been killed. After winning a clear victory, and as pursuit became too hazardous near Wake Island, American forces retired. Spruance once again withdrew to the east to refuel his destroyers and rendezvous with the carrier Saratoga, which was ferrying much-needed replacement aircraft. Fletcher transferred his flag to Saratoga on the afternoon of 8 June and resumed command of the carrier force. For the remainder of that day and then 9 June, Fletcher continued to launch search missions from the three carriers to ensure the Japanese were no longer advancing on Midway. Late on 10 June a decision was made to leave the area and the American carriers eventually returned to Pearl Harbor. Historian Samuel E. Morison noted in 1949 that Spruance was subjected to much criticism for not pursuing the retreating Japanese, thus allowing their surface fleet to escape.

June 1942 Midway cont. from page 16 Clay Blair argued in 1975 that had Spruance pressed on, he would have been unable to launch his aircraft after nightfall, and his cruisers would have been overwhelmed by Yamamoto’s powerful surface units, including Yamato. Furthermore, the American air groups had suffered considerable losses, including most of their torpedo bombers. This made it unlikely that they would be effective in an airstrike against the Japanese battleships, even if they had managed to catch them during daytime. Also, by this time Spruance’s destroyers were critically low on fuel. On 10 June, the Imperial Japanese Navy conveyed to the military liaison conference an incomplete picture of the results of the battle. Chūichi Nagumo’s detailed battle report was submitted to the high command on 15 June. It was intended only for the highest echelons in the Japanese Navy and government, and was guarded closely throughout the war. In it, one of the more striking revelations is the comment on the Mobile Force Commander’s (Nagumo’s) estimates: “The enemy is not aware of our plans (we were not discovered until early in the morning of the 5th at the earliest).” In reality, the whole operation had been compromised from the beginning by Allied code-breaking efforts. The Japanese public and much of the military command structure were kept in the dark about the extent of the defeat: Japanese news announced a great victory. Only Emperor Hirohito and the highest Navy command personnel were accurately informed of the carrier and pilot losses. Consequently, even the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) continued to believe, for at least a short time, that the fleet was in good condition. On the return of the Japanese fleet to Hashirajima on 14 June the wounded were immediately transferred to naval hospitals; most were classified as “secret patients”, placed in isolation wards and quarantined from other patients and their own families to keep this major defeat secret. The remaining officers and men were quickly dispersed to other units of the fleet and, without being allowed to see family or friends, were shipped to units in the South Pacific, where the majority died in battle. None of the flag officers or staff of the Combined Fleet were penalized, with Nagumo later being placed in command of the rebuilt carrier force.Editor’s comment: Though this happened 75 years ago, there are still some survivors from both sides of the battle. History shows this to be a major shift in the ultimate outcome of WW-2 in the Pacific. The Japanese were never again able to mount a significant threat to Hawaii or the West Coast. The United States industrial might went into full gear and produced some of the most sophisticated military equipment of the time including the B-29 long range bomber and ultimately the Atomic Bomb that ended the war. Like Anti-American fringe groups, especially the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) who would love nothing more than to paint ACT for America with the false and broad brush of bigotry. Their biased and tainted unsolicited magazine subscriptions are sent free to influential people like police chiefs to unduly influence and prejudice. Perhaps that is why the FBI dumped the SPLC as a hate crimes resource. Family Research Council president Tony Perkins said, “We commend the FBI for removing website links to the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that not only dispenses erroneous data but has been linked to domestic terrorism in federal court. We hope this means the FBI leadership will avoid any kind of partnership with the SPLC.” The Jewish News and Politics also dumped the SPLC: A new blacklist from the SPLC marks the demise of a once-vital organization: The SPLC blacklist list contains practicing Muslims like Maajid Nawaz, ex-Muslims like Ayaan Hirsi Ali, foreign-policy think-tankers like Frank Gaffney and Daniel Pipes, and right-wing firebrands like David Horowitz—none of whom could be reasonably described as anti-Muslim bigots. The Front Page magazine article, The Islamic Society of North America’s Destructive Agenda, (March 2nd 2017 by John Perazzo), highlights the network of major hate groups in America that are supported and funded by the left, specifically names the Southern Poverty Law Center as one of them. Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel accuses the Council of American Islamic Relations, of being a front for terrorism. CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator of the HLF trial. Surprised? Most folks have been badly misinformed. If you have not evaluated your own opinion on the fundamental ideology motivating criminal Islamists with factual information, you may be part of the problem or worse, an apologist for their evil beliefs. Some drive-by media, lacking real investigative journalists, have falsely accused truth tellers as “Islamophobic” in their position toward Muslims. Interestingly, “Islamophobia” was invented and promoted by the Muslim Brotherhood, declared to be a terrorist organization in some Muslim countries, through their front group the International Institute for Islamic Thought. Robert Spencer exposed CAIR’s cynical and deceptive “Islamophobia” campaign. Along with two other retired police officers from three different agencies, we have attended several public national security briefings hosted by ACT Cleveland, a chapter of the national ACT for America group, held in a southern suburb of Cleveland. We were astonished to hear a rumor that the local police agency forbids their officers to work off-duty security for large crowds there. This is allegedly because of a false claim that Act Cleveland is a hate-group. If this accusation were true, we three and many, many others would no longer be attending. In order for truth to march on and triumph, the substitute guardians there have been both private security and Cleveland police officers working these monthly informative briefings. ACT for America speakers do not advocate or tolerate bigotry, racism, Islamophobia or threats of violence. ACT for America specifically combats those who choose to follow the terrorists promoting the fundamental, (also known as “radical”), interpretation of Islam, and who seek to use that hateful ideology to harm our citizens and to threaten our democratic freedoms. Of course, many people are incredibly uninformed on this subject and may imagine fundamental Islam is as benign as other beliefs. For people unable to handle the truth, that poses a serious education problem. Fundamental Islamists are the real hate group by their insurrection, funding, fielding murderous terrorists and thrusting their own hateful ideology on America, including in some American schools, such as NY Public Schools Promote Course Justifying Suicide Bombings. We three retirees are still interested in saving lives, currently by monitoring threats both foreign and domestic though honest news and by studying terrorism threats by personally purchased texts and courses at ILEETA conferences. We are self-educated through personal research and well informed on the criminal Islamist terrorist threat. Educating is exactly what these Act Cleveland public national security briefings do. Indeed, to best get the truth across, these author-speakers prefer documented in-context quotes direct from Islam’s important Quran, Sunnah and Hadiths. These fundamental three works are key in understanding current terrorist threats, both foreign and domestic. There are numerous historically correct unbiased scholarly publications, often by these same expert-author-speakers that can explain each of the three key works. Quite independent from our peaceful moderate American Muslims, the radical, political, fund-raising, disinformation, publicity, military and special operation arms of fundamental Islam produce dangerous criminal Islamists who follow the felonious fundamentals of a 7th century ideology. They have formally declared war on America, committed acts of war on America and have an aggressive disinformation campaign assisted and spread by the left. Even our past Presidents have been incredibly misled on the subject of Islam. No wonder the American public has been and is still being intentionally deceived. Some truth tellers have been cowed by the ignorant who falsely accuse of them of being a bigot, racist, or Islamophobe. I would encourage everyone to become factually enlightened by doing their own research for the truth and or attend an ACT Cleveland national security briefing to see for yourself. You decide!
