Uniforms As mentioned in our welcome letter, it is important that students take pride in our school and wear their full school uniform every day. Below are photos displaying our full school uniform options. A note will be sent home stating when classes have timetabled their sports day/s. Just a reminder that school hats are expected to be worn during lunch breaks and sporting activities. They can be purchased from the front office at any time for $13.

Our students are looking great in their school uniform and the team Ambarvale spirit is truly showing! Hair accessories If your child likes to wear hair accessories to school, we ask that they match the school uniform by being either bottle green or white.

School Rules Our 4 school rules- Be Safe, Be Respectful, be Kind and Be a Learner play an important role in creating a positive school environment. We expect students to be displaying these behaviors on a daily basis. We hope that every child enters the school gates at the beginning of the school day with the attitude to be an Ambarvale All Star. School Supervision Teachers are officially on duty from 8.30am each morning. It is important that students are not at school before this time in order to ensure their safety. We have noticed that a lot of students are being dropped off at the front gate at 8.00am which is putting their safety at risk. The crossing attendants are not responsible for looking after students in the morning. If you require care before or after school, we now have an onsite OoSH (Before and After School Program), running 6.30am-8.45am and 3.00pm-6.00pm, in our community room. School Contribution Each year the NSW DoE asks that parents make a school contribution to assist with school resourcing. The school contribution has been set at $40.00 per student or $50 per family for the 2019 school year. This contribution is not compulsory, yet assists the school greatly in providing valuable resources for our students.

Staff Car Park

Please keep in mind that the school car park is for staff and NSW DoE employees only. The safety of all our students and staff is a priority at all times and we ask that if you are dropping your child/children off at the front of the school, please use the appropriate lanes on the side of the road, allocated for school drop off, not the staff car park. There is also a car park available at the back entrance to the school which is open to the school community.

Drop Off Zone It has come to our attention that some parents are

parking in the drop off zone at the front of the school. Please keep in mind that this zone is for drop off only, it is not for parking and getting out of your car. Police patrol school zones so please be careful and ensure you are reading the parking signs etc. The parking area is just a little further down the road if you would like to walk your child/children into the school. As mentioned previously, there is also a community car park at the back of the school for your use.

I look forward to hearing about and sharing the great success stories taking place within our classrooms and around our school throughout 2019.

HOME READING INITIATIVE We are excited to announce that our Home Reading Initiative program will be running again in 2019. All students in Year 1 to Year 6 have been provided with their Home Reading Booklets. We appreciate your support in encouraging your children to read on a regular basis to support their learning. Our Drive At Ambarvale Public school we believe that reading at home will allow students to:

• Put into practice their reading skills • Develop a love for reading • Rehearse strategies explicitly taught by

the teacher • Build vocabulary and improve

comprehension • Increase reading confidence • Provide opportunities to respond to the

text. Reward System For every 5 nights of reading students receive 5 bonus stamps on their Ambarvale All Star Chart.

LIBRARY CHAT Library borrowing. All children are expected to have a library bag to protect their books on the way to and from school. Each year I have to throw away books that have been damaged by yoghurt, drinks or squashed grapes. The library bag does not have to be a special bought bag. Plastic bags or old pillowslips are fine to use. Please put names on bags. Children in years K-2 borrow one book for home. In years 3-6 children may borrow two books to take home as well as a book for reading in class. Library borrowing days are:

Book Club: Book club magazines should have come home last week. I do have some spare copies if you did not receive one. Orders are due in next week, by Wednesday 20th. You may place orders using the order form and correct money in an envelope handed in at school, or by using the LOOP app or online at www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP. There are often bonus books for ordering with LOOP. All orders earn reward points for the school library so that all children benefit from book club.

SCHOOL OFFICE Money Slot - Over the school holidays our school office was refurbished. A new addition to our office is a money slot on the front counter that falls into a locked compartment. On the days that your child is required to pay money to the office they can simply drop their envelope straight into the money slot. Please ensure that all money that is brought into school is properly secured in an envelope with your child’s name and class written on the front. Notes Home – The beginning of the school year is a busy time for notes being sent home. Please always check your child’s school bag for notes and return the completed note back to school as soon as possible. If you need a replacement note you will find one on the Skoolbag App and in the foyer of the office. Uniform Shop - Just a friendly reminder that the uniform shop is now located in the office. Feel free to come and see Jodie or Sarah between the hours of 8.30am and 3.30pm for all your uniform needs. Office Hours - 8.30am to 3.30pm. The office will be open during these times only.
