Tuesday 10 th September 2019 PRINCIPAL GREEN’S PARAGRAPHS 40 th Anniversary - Our 40 th Anniversary celebrations are fast approaching where Term 4 will see several events and celebrations being organised. The date for our 40 th Fiesta has been changed to later in the term in order to allow our classes to perfect their performances. The new date is Tuesday 26 th November. Thank you to all who have returned the slips indicating their preference for the performance times. If you have not returned your slip as yet, please do so ASAP. We are looking at either having: * A daytime only performance where tickets will cost $20, or * A day and late afternoon performance where tickets will cost $10. Public Speaking - I would like to congratulate all of the students who were selected to represent their class in the stage finals for public speaking. Our students did an amazing job. It is not easy getting up and speaking in front of a huge audience. All students should be very proud of their efforts! The winners of each stage will go on and compete in the Ultimo Public Speaking competition where they will be representing our school. Congratulations - Last night Mrs Jelic and I were fortunate enough to attend the Ultimo Operational Directorate Network Awards where 2 of our amazing staff were recognised for their hard work and dedication to Ambarvale Public School. Mrs Brennan received the Teacher in an Executive Role award and Mrs Begg received the Early Career Teacher award. Ambarvale Public School is certainly very lucky to have such amazing staff working with our students on a daily basis. Week 8 Sandra Greaves was also recognised for her contribution to Ambarvale Public School as a community member and parent. She received the Parent and Community Members award. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Brennan, Mrs Begg and Mrs Greaves on this significant achievement. Student Safety Before and After School - There have been an increasing number of students arriving at school well before 8.30am. Please note that teachers are not officially on duty until 8.30am, which means that those students who are arriving before this time are unsupervised, and the responsibility of the parent / carer. Our before and after school care service is up and running in our Community Hub, run by Kids United every morning 6.30-8.30am and 3.00-6.00pm. If you need to access the service, please feel free to contact the front office or you can call the service directly on 0403 864 833. In order to enrol, it is important that you have your child’s CRN available as this will be required when enrolling in the service in order to receive your rebate through MyGov. P & C - In our previous newsletter, we mentioned an upcoming P & C meeting scheduled for Week 9. The date has been rescheduled to Term 4. We will keep you posted closer to the date. Lost Property and School Uniform - As we are moving into Spring, we often find that the mornings are quite cool, yet it warms up throughout the day. This leads to students losing jackets and jumpers when they become warmer. Please ensure all belongings are labelled clearly with your child’s name in order for lost property to make it back to their rightful owners. We have had brand new jackets end up in lost property with no name. We value school uniform at Ambarvale Public School and request that ALL students wear FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM each day. Multi-coloured shirts, hats and track pants are not part of our school uniform. Students gain a sense of pride and belonging when they are part of a team, which is promoted through all students wearing their Ambarvale Public School uniform. Kindergarten 2020 - If you have a child or know of a child who will be starting kindergarten next year, enrolment forms are available at the front office. Our Kindergarten Orientation sessions start next term. It is important that we have enrolment forms completed before these sessions in order to ensure we can provide our 2020 Kindergarten students with the best transition to school possible. We held our Kindergarten Information session last Wednesday night where we had great attendance. Thank you to all who came along. Father’s Day - It seems so long ago now but I hope all the super dads out there had a great Father’s Day. A big thank you to all the parents / carers who came along to help with our Father’s Day stall. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you and appreciate your support. Canteen - Just a reminder that IOU’s at the canteen need to be paid ASAP. IOU’s are not a loan that lasts for weeks. IOU’s should be short term and should not happen all the time. The canteen staff do not have to provide IOU’s but are doing so to support our community. We need to be mindful that they are running a business.

Zone Athletics - I would like to congratulate all of our students who participated in the Zone Athletics carnival last week at Campbelltown Athletics Stadium. A huge thank you to the parents who came out to support their child/children on the day. We had Mikel V, Zofia C and our junior girls relay team Zofia C, Eliza B, Antoaneta S and Taurus P who made it to the finals in their events. This was an amazing effort by all. Zofia C has progressed to the Regional Athletics carnival next Friday after coming 1st in her 100m final. On behalf of the Ambarvale Public School community, I would like to wish Zofia all the best in her upcoming running event. All students who competed over the two days should be very proud of their achievements. Gala Day - Gala day is next Friday, Week 9. It has changed from Week 8 due to Regional Athletics. Our soccer and netball teams will be representing our school on the day. I wish them all lots of fun and success throughout their games whilst they are showing of their Ambarvale All Star behaviour! Clara McManus-Lawson – It is with great sadness that we are informing you of the passing of our Year 3-6 Catholic scripture teacher. Mrs McManus has been teaching scripture at Ambarvale PS for the past 25 years. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends at this difficult time. Until next time, Mrs K Green
