Dear Alumni Members, Dear Alumni Members,

I would like to first start out with an ecstatic congratulations to Class

27 on completing the LEADERship Martin County program and becoming a

part of the Alumni Association. You are perhaps asking yourself “now what”?

I know how you feel, I was once there, and in fact 26 leadership classes before

you have been where you are now. You are perhaps seeking to continue your

education. You are most assuredly asking questions about your community.

You might even be looking at the possibility of getting further involved. While

I do not have all the answers for you, I believe that the Alumni Association

can act as conduit to assist you in focusing your passion.

The Executive Board had its retreat last month and endeavored to answer some tough

questions that lay ahead for our Alumni Association. How do we remain a viable organization that

offers something different than other organizations in town? While networking is an important

component to our organization you can network with many members at other great organizations.

What makes LEADERship Martin County Alumni Association different is that we can stand out by

providing you the alumni an environment to educate yourself on pressing local issues. Giving you a

chance to evaluate the circumstances surrounding the subject matter and providing you a network

to act on those issues with Leaders in the community is not a common commodity.

Now I am not suggesting that our Alumni Organization act like a political organization, but

rather an organization that educates you as a leader in the community. Our membership has

access to things that other organizations do not in that we have one common thread. We have all

completed LEADERship Martin County. We have all been through SIMSOC, I always read the

book. We have all done a Ropes Course. It is this commonality that makes us different than other

organizations.

The Alumni Board at its retreat agreed that it is appropriate to re-engage in Civic Aware-

ness as an organization. Yes, we are still going to have our Celebrity Chef, Family Day, and Holi-

day Events, but we are also going to be rolling out events where you will have the opportunity to

learn about issues facing Martin County and the State of Florida. You will still be able to network,

but our success is predicated on your willingness to participate in the educational process. Take

PRIDE in the fact that you are a LEADERship Alumni. Let us come together with a PASSION,

most especially in giving our Alumni Organization a greater PURPOSE in our community.

Respectfully,

George M. Stokus, Vice President

Class 25
