This induction course to Laureate’s content and philosophy provides a space for reflection for all Laureate International Universities® faculty members. During the course, participating faculty will reflect on their performance as professionals and the impact they have on their students within a university with global reach.

The course identifies the professional challenges and opportunities that come with being a part of the Laureate network. Topics range from the Laureate context, 21stcentury students, the elements of learning, effective teaching, and the competencies of an effective instructor.

Become familiar with the online learning areas used in all of the Laureate Faculty Development certificate programs. This course explores the online environment and provides you with the skills you need to successfully complete the different instructor-led online modules.

Learning Methods

This course teaches on how to use the Case Study Method and how to adapt it to the educational model of an institution. From readings which provide a conceptual framework, participating faculty members will analyze the Case Study Method in their own classrooms.

Through hands-on, practical activities, faculty members will be able to share and interact with other colleagues. Topics include an introduction to the pedagogical principles of the Case Study Method, defining the steps and the preparation of Case Study Method for learning, as well as using it and how learning should be assessed when using this teaching strategy.

In this course, faculty members will recognize the characteristics of the Collaborative Learning academic strategy, identify its components, and design a collaborative activity to implement in the classroom. They will also create a rubric evaluation focused on student performance. The course provides an excellent platform to interact with other colleagues across the network.

Have you ever pondered on how to develop a research topic and what would be needed to conduct research in your field? The Academic Research course will help the participant explore the research process.

Topics include the role of the researcher, components of the research process, an overview of research methodologies and ethical issues in research. Participants will be able to apply strategies to perform literature reviews, develop a research study, select research methodologies, and examine research articles for validity and reliability.

Upon successful completion of this unit, the participant will be able to analyze the importance of research, analyze the role of the researcher, identify key terms, principles, and concepts related to research, analyze relevant academic literature.

In this course the participant will be able to explore the rapidly-changing world of higher education. Discuss important issues with international colleagues regarding higher education, challenges, and opportunities brought about by current innovations and future trends. Topics include 21st-century student expectations, online learning, massively open online courses (MOOCs), game-based learning, data and learning analytics, Competency-Based education, mobile learning, and more.

Upon completion, the participant will know how the landscape of higher education is changing, distinguish between the students of yesterday, today, and tomorrow and identify what the learning environments of tomorrow will be like.

This module reviews the concepts and functions of formative and summative assessment applied in a working adult context. It highlights the portfolio and rubric strategies as the most suited for the working adult student.
