Location

Kopaonik is in the central part of Serbia, 230км from Belgrade. Kopaonik is possible to reach from the resort " Josanicka spa " and Brus. Zones with especially significant both rare plants and animals have been isolated and made reserves.

Kopaonik - the biggest mountain ridge in Serbia. Settles down from northwest to a southeast in the extent 75км, reaching in an average part width approximately 40км.

The greatest part is spatial high mountains Ravni Kopaonik (Equal Kopaonik) above which tower Suvo Rudiste with Pancic (Milan) astride (2017м) on which is the Pancic mausoleum, Karaman (1934м), Gobelja (1834м) and others. In a southeast from the crest Suvo Rudiste Kopaonik is narrowed and divided into some smaller mountains: Cardak (1590м), Satorica (1750м) and Ostro Koplje (1789м).

Today Kopaonik represents the big tourist and mountain center, with greater number of hotels and private objects for tourists, system of ski descents and elevating lifts, and as other infrastructure.

From the western part, from Ibarska highways, two roads go to Kopaonik, the first from Bijlanovac along the river Josanicka, and the second from Rudnica; and from east part from Krusevac and Toplice through Brzec.

Копаоник draws special dynamics of its relief. Spatial mountain meadows, dense deciduous and coniferous wood and also mountain tops with which the Sphere mountain is visible, It is Stara planina (Old mountain), as well as other surrounding mountains which remain in long memory of all who shall visit this mountain beauty.

Kopaonik is a place on which it is possible to find examples of endemic florae, as for example Pancic spruce (Sempervirum Kopaonicense Pancic), Cardamine Pancicii and violet of Kopaonik (Viola Copanicensis). From numerous animal species the most significant it: a grey falcon (Falco Peregrinus), a gold eagle (Aquila Curvirosta), an owl (Bubo Bubo), wild cats (Felis Silvestris) and deers (Capreolus Capreolus).

With the 200 sunny days in a year, Kopaonik has deserved the second name " Solar mountain ". Southern orientation, height and the open panorama do not allow clouds to be to above mountain long. Cold air falls in neighboring to a valley and lowlands, so winter temperatures not sharp. Average annual temperature 3.7oC. The snow begins the end of November until May, on the average 159 days in a year. A level of downfall more 1000mm in a year.

In area of mountain there are many geysers. Resorts Vrnjacka spa, Matarushka spa and Sirinjska spa are very well-known. In the base of the mountains there is Josanicka spa (temperature of water 78оС), Lukovska spa (36-56оС) and Kursumlisjska spa (38-57оС). Together thermal waters on Kopaonik there are and mineral waters and as also radioactive springs Krcmar at height from 1700м and Marina waters at height 1950м.

In region of Kopaonik there is a plenty of cultural-historical monuments. Some of them are:

In wide areas of Kopaonik are the remnants of the cities of Zvecan (XI-XIV century), Maglic (XIV), Brvenic (XIV), Vrc Lab (XIV), Koznik (XV).
