Within 24 hours, our Captains have created a campaign called the #dopestdunk campaign to remind students of the importance of keeping our school clean and providing some incentives for the most creative ways to clean up the playground. I look forward to seeing some of the entries from both students and staff and I wish to thank the Captains for their excellent leadership. Uniform As we get into the colder months we are beginning to see some items of clothing being worn that are not a part of the Kooringal HS uniform. As of this Wednesday, we will be beginning to discuss uniform with individual students who are not wearing the correct uniform. We ask that all parents and carers encourage their students to wear the correct uniform every day to school. CHS and Riverina jumpers are only to be worn on Wednesdays. If anyone is having financial difficulties in obtaining certain aspects of the uniform, please make contact with Mrs Mattingly our HT Welfare to discuss options. This is a safety issue for the school so we appreciate your assistance. Sydney Commerce excursion

On Wednesday 29th May, 39 students along with Mr Skeers, Mrs Clark and Mrs Field left for a 3 day adventure to Sydney, with our driver Brett Allen from Allens Coaches.

We arrived in Sydney at midday and had a walking lunch break on the way to ABC studios. At ABC students were able to film their own news reports before heading into the studios where shows such as Playschool and Giggle and Hoot are filmed, we ventured through the makeup and special effects room as well as toured through the radio station rooms. After ABC we went on a walk from Bronte to Bondi, all the while watching out for migrating whales and admiring the bluest of blue ocean. Along the way we met two of the Bondi Beach Life guards and some NRL players. After our walk we headed back to YHA and walked to Chinatown, from there we walked to the Darling Harbour Precinct were we were lucky enough to see the lights of Vivid and then headed into play some laser tag. When leaving the arcade the lifts were closed so we all followed Mr Skeers down an emergency exit, we accidently set off an alarm, despite Mrs Field trying to take students back through the arcades exit Mrs Field was not the coolest teachers, so we followed Mr Skeers, turns out that we ended up taking a 2km long detour through a carpark, on the way back to YHA we stopped for ice-cream and a run in a park.

Thursday morning came way too soon, we visited the Downing Street Courts where we were able to sit in some Local and State Cases ranging from minor traffic infringements to drug smuggling grandpas. From there we walked to Westfield tower and enjoyed the view over Sydney over 300m in the air. After that we ran into Mrs Mattingly and Parliament House, we were lucky enough to have Dr Joe McGirr sit with us for a while, we sat in on Question Time and were entertained by the outrageous mannerisms of the politicians. We had some free time at Paddy’s Markets before heading off on a train to Bondi Junction to shop and eat. We finished our night with a very sobering guided tour through Kings Cross where we were able to hear first-hand the experiences of the lives of the homeless living in the area. We walked back to our accommodation, taking in the skyline and city life activity.

On Friday Morning we finished the excursion with a scavenger hunt though to Circular Quay and a ferry trip to Sydney Olympic Park. We were pleased to get on the coach to rest our weary legs after walking a staggering 47 km in the 3 days. We would highly recommend this trip for future years as it allowed us to experience some aspects of city life that we do not experience here in Wagga.

On Thursday 30th May, our school captains, Harry & Eve travelled to Sydney with Mrs Mattingly as part of the NSW Government School Leadership program. During a visit to the Parliament, students engage in civics and citizenship education, learning about the procedures of parliament, the growth and processes of democracy in NSW and within the Australian federal system. School Attendance

Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children. If a student misses as little as 8 days in a school term, by the end of primary school they’ll have missed over a year of school.
