School Production Gets UnderwayThe ‘Y’ Factor
Each year “the production” holds a special place in the life of our school. It’s the subject of many conversations for months and is the key focus for over fifty students and staff as they prepare and deliver the final product. This year, The ‘Y’ Factor, is truly a home grown product. Written by Head Teacher Creative and Performing Arts Mr Russell and with Mr Lowrie taking on the role of Director, Ms King the role of Musical Director and Mrs Nickell the role of Head Choreographer, we can lay claim to all aspects of this project coming from within.I have made the point to the students involved that they are part of the history of the school as well as their efforts being a memory that they will carry for the rest of their lives. The conversation about The ‘Y’ Factor will therefore continue long into the future. I wish all cast and crew the best of luck over the two weeks of performances and thank our staff for the whole school effort that has brought this project to life.

Carroll Cup and Tracey Gunson Shield Come to a CloseThe performances of our Open AFL Team in the Carroll Cup and our Open Netball Team in the Tracey Gunson Shield, has brought credit to us in recent weeks. While not being the winners of the respective competitions we have performed creditably in both and once again our students have carried themselves with the right values and determination at all times.Sport plays a significant part in the life of our school and it was great to see our seniors competing hard, showing teamwork and having fun.Again I thank those teachers who have coached teams this year for their support of our students.
Year 11/12 Parent Teacher NightThe opportunity exists for parents of Year 11 and 12 students to meet with teachers next Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:30pm in the school gym.Booking sheets are out and in the hands of students already. On Friday 15th May students from Kooringal High School were given the opportunity to delve into the
creative process with a local, published author Muuky (John Muk Muk Burke). The event was opened to
20 enthusiastic students from year 7 and 8 and the students had a memorable time. Muuky spoke about
the creative process. We also looked at the natural rhythm of language and wrote poetry using CS Lewis’
“Jabberwocky” and words from our multicultural Australian experiences. Muuky had something hidden away
and with a flourish he presented our group with a damper made that morning using basic ration ingredients.
It was devoured with honey and our group was thankful that not only had our intellectual being had been
nourished but also our physical. The group hope to have Muuky back for more wonderful writing.
