Notes:1. Values have been calculated using the limit state method described in the

“European Recommendations for the Design of Sandwich Panels”(ECCS document No.115 2001), taking imposed loads, temperature andcreep into account.

2. For each value individual and combined load cases with appropriate loadfactors and temperatures have been considered. These are detailed under“Structural Performance” in the Building Design Section.

3. The Table is for medium and light coloured panels, as recommended byKingspan for roofs.

4. The following deflection limits have been used:

Downward loading L/200

Suction loading L/150

5. For intermediate values linear interpolation may be used.

6. The actual wind suction load resisted by the panel is dependant on thenumber of fasteners used and the material of the purlin. The fasteners calculation should be carried out in accordance with theappropriate standard. For further advise please contact Kingspan Technical Design Bureau.

7. The allowable steelwork tolerance between bearing planes of adjacentpurlins is +/- 5mm.

8. Load span tables for panel specifications not shown are available fromthe Kingspan Technical Design Bureau.

9. FM approved panels spans must be limited to a maximum of 1.8 metres insingle or double span conditions.

21

ApplicationThe following specification is for the KS1000 LP/Zero ODP/LPCBLo-Pitch Insulated Roof Panel used for buildings with roof slopes of1.5° or curved roofs of 150m radius and above with internalhumidity class environments 1-4 inclusive as defined in BS EN ISO13788:2002.

For internal humidity class environment 5 i.e. swimming poolscontact Kingspan Technical Design Bureau.

KS1000 LP is Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) certifiedto LPS 1181 Grade EXT-B.

Materials & CoatingsExternal Weather SheetSubstrate to be 0.5mm thick steel S220GD+ZA eutectic Galvalloyhot-dip zinc coated steel to BS EN10214: 1992. External coatingto be Plastisol, nominal 200 micron thick. Colour – Standard.

Reverse to have a light grey polyester coating.

Insulation CoreTo consist of 80mm thick, closed cell, with zero ozone depletion(Zero ODP) and LPCB certified polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation.

The auto-adhesive properties of the core bond the external andinternal sheets together, and control the panel thickness achievedduring manufacture.

Internal Liner SheetSubstrate to be 0.4mm thick hot-dip zinc coated Steel toBS EN10147: 1992.

Internal coating to be Lining Enamel, nominal 15 micron thick.Colour - White.

Reverse to have a light grey polyester coating.

Cover CapsTo be made from 0.5mm thick steel coated to the samespecification as the external weather sheet of the panels and usedin typical lengths up to 12000mm.

PerformanceThermal InsulationThe panel must have a thermal transmittance (U value) of0.25 W/m2K calculated using the method required by the BuildingRegulations Part L2 (England & Wales) and Building StandardsPart J (Scotland).

FireThe external and internal faces of the panel to be Class 0 inaccordance with the Building Regulations when tested to BS 476:Parts 6: 1989 and Part 7: 1987.

The panel must be rated SAA when tested to BS 476: Part 3: 1975.

The system has passed all the requirements of LPS 1181: 2003:Part 1: Issue 1 ceiling lining test.

AirtightnessOverall airtightness for complete envelope less than 10m3/hr/m2

at 50Pa.

Seals & FillersSide Joint

All side joints have a factory applied anti-condensation tape.

End LapAll external end laps to be 75mm long, and weather sealed alongthe full width using a single unbroken run of 18mm wide x 4mmthick U section butyl rubber sealant tape, Class A, Ref NFRC TB93.

In addition a single unbroken run of non-curing mastic appliedacross the complete with of the panel.

End laps to be tail stitched with carbon steel stitching screws, complete with 14mm diameter bonded stainless steel washers.

Tail stitching to be positioned 25mm upslope from end lap and fivenumber per panel. Fasteners to penetrate the factory applied end lapstitching plate positioned in the downslope panel at the flush end.

An additional 150mm length of gun applied non-curing mastic tobe applied over 4 way laps.

Profiled FillersWhere flashings are fixed across the profile of the insulated panel,EPDM closed cell foam fillers should be used to seal and close theprofile. Seal the top, bottom and sides of each profiled filler withnon-setting gun-grade sealant, Scapa Tapes Ref: 0100 or similar. The flashing and filler to be supported using an apex dam, Ref: LP1.

JunctionsJunctions between the roof panel system and walls / penetrationsinsulated with PIR board insulation any gaps filled with AlfasbondFR or similar fire rated gun applied canister urethane insulation.

Internal face of panel to be air sealed along the full length by anunbroken 6mm diameter butyl rubber sealant tape, Class A, RefNFRC TB93.

FastenersPrimaryAll primary fasteners must be the high threaded type, manufactured from carbon steel and fitted with a 16mm diameterbonded stainless steel washer.

All fasteners to be located at the side profile of the panel. To comply with the requirements of BS 6399: Part 2: 1997, it maybe necessary to provide additional fixings in areas of high localsuction.

SecondaryFlashings to be stitched at 450mm centres (maximum) with carbonsteel, stitching screws, complete with 14mm diameter bondedstainless steel washers with integral colour matched heads.

Fasteners General NoteRecommended fasteners are available from SFS Intec Ltd, Ejot UKLtd, Mage Fasteners Ltd, or Ash and Lacy Building Systems Ltd.

Construction DetailsFlashingsAll external flashings to be made from 0.63mm thick steel to thesame specification as the outer sheet of the panel. Colour –Standard. All flashings to be weather sealed at laps and along thefull length by an unbroken bead of 20mm wide x 3mm thick butylrubber sealant tape, Class A, Ref NFRC TB93. All internalflashings to be made from 0.4mm thick steel substrate, to thesame specification as the inner sheet. Colour - white.

All internal flashings to be air sealed at laps and along the fulllength by an unbroken bead of 6mm diameter butyl rubber sealanttape, Class A, Ref NFRC TB93. End laps to be air sealed withScapa Tapes Vapourflex or similar, or gun-grade sealant.

Ridge and EavesThe outer sheet of the panel must be turned up and turned downusing cladding manufacturers supplied tool at ridge and eavesrespectively.

Panel LengthsExact lengths to be determined by the cladding contractor fromthe steelwork drawing, but typically using minimum number ofpanels from ridge to eaves up to a maximum panel length of 28.5metres.

Construction RequirementsSteelwork ToleranceThe steel frame must be made and assembled to an accuracy ofL/600 between fixing planes of adjacent purlins, +/- 5mm.

InstallationAll fasteners, seals and fillers to be of correct specification andinstalled as indicated on the project construction drawings.Site cut panels must provide accurate, true lines with no distortion.

Panels to be cut with powered reciprocating type saw and allexposed site cut panels to be treated with a suitable edgeprotection lacquer. Cut openings for outlets, vents, flues etc. to bethe minimum size necessary.

Remove all swarf and any foreign matter immediately from theexternal surface of panels.

Fasteners to be checked and adjusted if necessary to ensure theyare weather tight and external panel facing is not distorted.

SafetyThe contractor is to determine and use a safe method of workingthroughout the installation and construction period, whichcomplies with HSE & CDM requirements.
