Glencore Helps to ‘Green’ our Oval

It was the absolute pleasure of P&C President Mark

Newton and our Relieving Principal Mr Upcroft to be

presented with a cheque for $4000 on Friday to go

towards the P&C Irrigation Project. This generous

donation is courtesy of Glencore, with representative

Laura Barben very keen to learn about this project

which has been discussed at P&C meetings for

many years.

The money that Glencore is donating will allow the

initial infrastructure to be laid for the irrigation

system. Water will be pumped out of the 4 tanks

(which are full at the moment fortunately) to keep

our vast oval green all year round. Providing this

environment will keep students happy and healthy

thus having a positive effect on their learning.

There is still a little more fundraising to go to

complete the project, so watch this space! Special

acknowledgement must go to Mrs Ros Kelley for her

knowledge and leadership during this process.

Mr Upcroft , Mr Newton and Mrs Kelley with Laura Barben from

Glencore and Sarah and Tyler.

Opportunity to Meet with Teachers

In Week 11 we would like to invite parents to take

the opportunity to meet with your childs teacher. In

this meeting you will be able to discuss your childs

progress and other aspects of their schooling. Notes

will be coming home very soon for you to return to

make interview times.

The Interview Schedule will be as follows:

Mon 4/4/16: KB, KM, 1B, 1F, 1/2T

Tues 5/4/16: 2M, 2T, S2N, S2S, S2I

Wed 6/4/16: S3K, S3G, S3L, 4/5G

If you need an interview outside of these times

please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher.

Environmental Success Continues

On Friday night our King Street Public school

captains and Mrs Stewart represented our school at

the local Tidy Towns garden competition award

announcements.

We were awarded a Highly Commended for our

beautiful school gardens and a Special Judges

Award for our vegetable garden. Looking after our

school environment is a team effort so thankyou to

everyone who has helped in any way to support our

gardens. We also want to give a special thank you to

Ros Kelley, Eric Ryan and our EWOKS for all their

hard work.

Excited for Our Annual Easter Hat Parade

and Pedlars Parade Tomorrow

Tomorrow we will be hosting our annual Easter Hat

Parade. We would like to invite all KSPS family and

friends to join us in the fun. The Easter Hat Parade

starts at 12pm followed by the announcement of the

P&C top 10 winners of the Monster Easter Raffle

then the Pedlars Parade will then be held in the

Kings Court.

All other prizes from our raffle will be available for

collection on Thursday afternoon. Our P&C would

like to thank everyone for their generous donations.

Pedlars Parade Donations

Our Student Council has made the decision that this

year the money raised from our Pedlars Parade will

go to Stewart House and Bandaged Bear

Foundation for Westmead Childrens Hospital.

REMINDER! When making delicious items for

our Pedlars Parade please remember we are an

allergy aware school so we ask that you please

do not include nut or fish products in your foods.

Parliament Resumes for 2016

Friday saw the first meeting for 2016 of our Student

Parliament. Members of Parliament include our

School Captains, House Captains and Class

Parliament Representatives.

The first order of business each year is for the

students to decide which charities they will be

supporting throughout the year. This year the

Pedlars Parade will be coordinated by Parliament

and will benefit Stewart House and the Bandaged

Bear Foundation. The students will also help Mrs

Kermode with the Cancer Council Biggest Morning

Tea and hold ‘Purple Day’ to support the Epilepsy

Foundation later in the year. In addition the

Parliament will continue to support our World Vision

sponsor child Onsy.

We look forward to watching the Parliament work

together with their fellow students to support these

wonderful causes throughout the year.

The Tell Them From Me Student Feedback

Survey

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many

others in the state, will participate in a Department of

Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student

feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve

student learning outcomes and measures factors

that are known to affect academic achievement and

other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide

survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and

effective teaching practices.

More information about the survey is available at:

http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-

parents

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to

provide our school with valuable and quick feedback

on what they think about school life, how engaged

they are with school and the different ways that

teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and

around the world have used the Tell Them From Me

survey to help improve how they do things at school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential

and school staff will not be able to identify individual

students from their responses. The survey is

conducted online and will typically take less than 30

minutes to complete. It will be administered during

school hours between 14th March and 8th April.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and a list of frequently asked

questions (FAQs) for parents/carers about the

survey is being sent home with students. If you do

not want your child or children to participate, please

return the consent form to school by Friday 26

February. The FAQs and copies of the consent

form, including translated consent forms, are

available from the website above.

4 UNIVERSITY OF NSW 2016

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)

Each year King Street Public School offers our students the opportunity to participate in the UNSW

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).

Students from Year 3-6 have the opportunity to enter Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics,

Science and Spelling.

Regardless of students’ results, they get a wonderful opportunity to experience and master the skills

of external testing. Sometimes students can have the knowledge but not the confidence when they

are put into this sort of environment. As there is more external testing happening right across our

educational system, it makes sense to offer them this opportunity if we can.

All students receive a certificate and an individual report.

Please return the attached form for each child to the school office with payment.
