Prep 2020 Transition Program
It was wonderful to see so many of our new Preps for 2020 coming along to both of our ‘Play Dates’ as part of our
transition program. I’m sure they all enjoyed their first visit to the Father’s Day Stall last week as well as the fun
activities and the afternoon tea for our special dad’s. This week they were all very excited to get their brand new Kent
Park Prep t-shirts with the really cool superhero logo on the front.
Our next structured session times are in term 4:
Thursday, October 24th, 9.15-11am
Friday, November 8th, 2.30-3.30pm
Thursday, November 28th, 9.15-11am
Tuesday, December 10th, 2.30-3.30pm
AMAZING RESULTS!
Unofficial Parent Opinion Survey
We were very appreciative to all of our KPPS families that took the time to respond to our ‘Unofficial’ Parent Opinion
Survey. We had over 40 families sending in their responses and we recently collated all of the data. Below is a table
outlining 5 of our greatest areas of improvement when compared to our 2018 results.
Factor 2018 2019 % Improvement
School Improvement 52% 81% 29%
School Support
Positive Transitions
60%
71%
86%
97% 26%
26%
Parent Participation
and Involvement
54% 78% 24%
School Pride and
Confidence
57% 75% 18%
Promoting Positive
Behaviour
69% 85% 16%
Some other interesting information we identified included:
In 15 out of the 17 factors that were surveyed we saw an improvement.
The two areas that didn’t improve were within 2% of the 2018 score, eg School Connectedness in 2018 was 89%
(already a high score!) in 2019 we had 88%.
We averaged a 10% improvement in positive responses across all 17 factor, ie in 2018 the average response was
67.1% in 2019 it is 77.8%
Each survey also gave our families the opportunity to include written comments and suggestions that we can use to
inform our future plans.
We expect to receive the results from the official online survey in the next few weeks and it will be interesting to compare
all of these results together.
NAPLAN We’ve just received our NAPLAN results for 2019 and the good results have continued. A key indicator of school
improvement is the NAPLAN measure of how much our grade 5 students have improved since completing the NAPLAN
testing when they were in grade 3. In 3 of the 5 categories tested (Writing, Numeracy and Reading) our results were
slightly above the State averages. In Spelling and Grammar and Punctuation, our results were significantly higher than
State averages.
I believe our dedicated staff, hard-working students and amazing community at KPPS should be very proud of all of
these great results. Congratulations everyone!
It’s HAT season!
That’s right folks it’s that time of the year again when we dig through the bottom of our bags, dive into the back of the
wardrobe, wade into the lost property pile in the sick bay or just admit defeat and buy a new hat for the summer. Over the
next two weeks, students will be required to wear their hats if the UV index rating is high enough for hats to be worn,
so make sure you have it at school. Once we hit term 4, it is hats every day.
Seedling Donations
If you are collecting any of the seedlings from Woolworths in the next few weeks and don’t intend to use them at home,
we would be more than happy to have them donated to the school as we start to rejuvenate some of the garden beds around
the school, including the Prep veggie gardens. Just hand them in at the office and we’ll take care of them.

What do you do with the plastic bottle tops from used milk bottles?
Throw them in the bin or recycling (where they are likely to fall through the gaps during sorting and ultimately end up in
landfill)?
Well, now you can start collecting them to help provide prosthetic arms to young kids in need. Envision Hands
(www.envision.org.au) is a not-for-profit group that trains disadvantaged people to use 3D printers to make mobility aids
for child amputees across the world.
Envision Hands and Holden Rally Team - Lids4Kids need your help:
☑️Simply collect your milk bottle tops and the Envision Hands project will use them to build bespoke aids for children in
need.
☑️ Make sure you rinse them straight away. The cleaner the better.
There will be a collection box in the office for you to put your milk lids in, please ask family and friends to start collecting
too :)

FANTASTIC STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT!!!
NATHAN CHURCH - VICS CYCLING COMPETITION
On Friday the 16th of August I went to Casey Fields Criterium track to represent Kent Park in the Victorian school cycling competition. It was a time trial around a 1.2km circuit and it was extremely windy. I went off second last and managed to catch the rider in front of me. The whole race itself was 4.4km long with a large hill to climb up. I finished the race in 19 minutes and 14 seconds. Overall, I finished in first place and won gold. Because I came first, I have qualified for the state final, which will take place in Bendigo next month. It was a fantastic day and I really enjoyed it. By Nathan Church. What a fantastic achievement! Kent Park are super proud of you Nathan!!!
