Page 5: JUNE 23, 2019 |THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

Dear family,

This weekend is one of the most beautiful celebrations of

the whole year, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and

Blood of Christ. As I write this, looking forward to the

Steubenville Conference in Denver in which our youth will

participate, I hope and pray even now that they be ever

more touched by the Eucharistic Lord Jesus, especially in

adoration and communion. Please say a prayer for us as

well.

There is no surer way to foster boundless growth in our

relationship and love for God than to do all that we can to

grow in our right relationship with the Most Holy Eucha-

rist, such as going to daily Mass when possible and also

spending time with Him, in His presence, as often as possi-

ble. On the contrary, there is no surer way to severely im-

pede and limit our relationship with God than to stay

away from the Eucharist when we easily could make more

effort to incorporate into our life those opportunities to

receive our Lord and be in His presence, or to receive un-

worthily and inappropriately the Most Blessed Sacrament

in a state of unconfessed mortal sin.

The Eucharist is a profound mystery which invites us to

great faith. Even though this is one of the most joyous

celebrations we get to be a part of with our God, we also

know that many people do not believe the Eucharist is

God! How sad! How sad! How painfully sad! Even worse

is this among those who claim to be Catholic! If you don’t

believe that the Eucharist is God, then you don’t believe a

necessary and irrevocable dogma of our faith that must be

believed in order to be Catholic and in good standing with

the Church. As I’ve said before, we cannot deny neces-

sary truths of our faith and still consider ourselves Catho-

lic. To deny the Church’s teaching on faith or morals is to

separate ourselves from the body of Christ. No matter

how much we might “think” ourselves or “feel” ourselves

united to Christ, denying those truths divinely revealed by

God Himself puts us in a state of certain spiritual separa-

tion from Christ.

The Mass prayers and sequence this weekend come from

St. Thomas Aquinas and are some of the most beautiful

prayers that the Church prays. Call upon God to help you

grow in faith in this most holy Sacrament. No one can

make you believe it, as we saw Jesus permit followers to

leave Him because of this. No one can prevent you from

believing it. How amazing the freedom God gave

us. Please find also as an insert in this bulletin some beau-

tiful prayers from St. Thomas Aquinas that I like to pray

before and after Mass in the sacristy. May you benefit

from the wonderful truths and petitions contained therein

by praying them also.

I hope and pray that you have a blessed week,

Fr. Sáenz

Querida familia,

Fr. Sáenz
