National 4-H CongressState News

Every year the National 4-H Congress and Conference application deadline is August 1st.  These are two wonderful leadership experiences ND 4-H Youth Development and the ND 4-H Foundation provide for our older 4- H youth. As you interact with your 4-H youth, 4-H families, and 4-H volunteers, please encourage them to explore these opportunities. Thanks to the ND 4-H Foundation there is very little cost to our ND 4-H delegates, so please do not let that be the barrier that keeps you from sharing this information. *Please note that the application was revised to incorporate new questions last year. If downloaded, the application is a fillable form that can be completed via computer. Please encourage your 4-H youth to complete the fillable form rather than hand writing the information. There is a brochure and Power Point to promote these opportunities located here. Shirlene is sending out the exhibit tags for those that have registered. If you do not have them within a week, contact the office. Reminder about judging etiquette. Judging is from 5-7 pm, Thrusday, July 11th. Our judges and assistants are volunteers so please respect their time and be ready to start judging at 5:00 pm. (even if you only have 1 project).  If you have dropped a project, please take the card to that project area at the start of judging and share with them you dropped.  Many of you have multiple projects, if the judging is winding down and you have a project with a judge that is waiting, please inform them that you will be there promptly.  Judges and assistants are done at 7: 00pm. Let's have a great evening of judging.   Absentee forms can be found at the website for those youth who have a project but can't attend the fair. Please find a friend who will take the project and sheet to the project area to be judged.  Form is found at: https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/dickeycountyextension/4h-and-youth/AbsenteeForms.pdf   There will be a tape on the floor for parents and youth waiting to talk to the judge. Please stay behind the line to give the judge and exhibitor space. Parents can assist the youth in setting down a project but then please go back to the other side of the line.  We had judges and exhibitors feeling crowded last year. Let's give them the time and space they need to make their experience enjoyable.  Also new this year. Please encourage your youth to take the qualtrics survey to evaluate the volunteers. This will help the office determine if there is more instructions we can give the volunteers to make it more enjoyable for all or if that volunteer didn't fit in that particular job. The surveys are anonymous but we will need to know the area they were helping in.
