Second of the five phtographs by Cologne newspaper . The legend reads in Translation: ' 'A great surprise; only 70 em. high is this m an from Mars. The war Department declares; 'It is not proven that he comes from Mars , but it is positive that he came from one of the planets of our solar system or a neighboring star . ''

Once again, BSRA does not guaratee these photographs, or that the War Department made the statement attributed to it - and certainly would not agree with such a statement if it were made . The B SR Director, however, is personally convinced that disc - shaped c r a f t , w i t h t h e i r o re r a t o r s , h a v e m a d e a n u m be r o f 1 a n d i n g s , s o me o f them ac ci de ntal and others safely and purposely, and u nder these circumstances the photographs here reproduced are not to be too hastily discredited. It is probably a mistake, too, to assume t hat the operators of these 'Discs • and other etheric craft are

all alike in size and appearance , or that all the craft are alike or come for the same purposes. The phenomena are constantly increas

ing in variety, and there, is reason to think they will become very frequent and familiar sights to everyone.

I Sphere We Go Again; It's I J Flying Saucer Season I

TV Technician Takes Pictures

The flying saucer season, usually as unpredictable as an oboe player's moods, has ar· rived in New York at last.

So quietly, In d e e c. did the season arrive-Sunday, May 15, at 4 p.m., if you're intrested in making a note of the time-that it might well have gone unnoticed had it not been for the alertness of a young television technician named Warren Siegmond and an at· tractive French girl, who as it turned out-well, there's no point in going into that.

What happened was simply this: Mr. Siegmond rented an English reflex-type camera for $1.25 on May 13 and bought two rolls of .films to make pictures of the attractive French girl, whose name is Jeannine Bouiller and who works for the French Government Tourist Office.

Taking Pictures on Roof. On the Sunday afternoon

wher, the flying saucer season opened they were in Mr. Siegmond's apartment at 7 W. 15th St. when he suddenly said the only decent place to take pictures was on the roof. Up they go. Mr. Siegmond began making pictures o.f Miss Bouil· ler, he clicking, she smiling, when she gasped and cried out, at the same time pointing.

There in the skies above the familiar water tanks, grimy

'!'()()fs and angular structures ot the Union Square neighbor· hood was a spherical object without markings. It moved rapidly. Obviously It was in the hands o.f a skillful pilot, and a daring one. moreover, since the risks of saucer fly. ing in the Union Square area are so well known. (Apparently familiar with police regulations

against low flying, the pilot kept well above the legal limits, indicating to Mr. Siegmond that he was a disciplined flier. )

Film Developed. Mr. Siegmond, himself a

well-disciplined yt>ung manhe served from 1 to 1945 as a gunner in an anti-aircraft battalion in England- shifted his camera quickly and began taking pictures. The strange aircraft wheeled, its sharp metallic glitter faded, it became a blur and vanished.

Dazed but gallant, Mr. Sieg· mond helped Miss Boulier dQwnstairs and had the film developed at a drugstore. Then he brought the negatives to the World-Telegram and Sun.

The pictures were shown to an Air Force officer familiar with the inquiry into flying saucer reports. "Whatever it was, it was moving," he said cryptically. Moreover, that was all he'd say.

To get a less austere reaction, a W-T & Sun reporter showed the pictures to Mrs. Margaret Rigberg, president of the Flying Saucer News Club, an organization of people who watch the skies for flying saucers.

Mrs. Rigberg runs a little bookshop at 1597 Third Ave. where books on metaphysics, occultism and spiritualism are prominently displayed.

Mrs. Rigberg looked at Mr. Siegmond's pictures and said, "Ah·h·h." Of course, they weren't the first photos of flying ships she has seen. Man over in New Jersey has some; sells them at $1 each.

As the owner of the largest bookstore to deal in flying saucer material, Mrs. Rigberg spoke with authority. Her husband is Vice president of the club. Mrs. Rigberg has never seen a flying saucer, probably because she is too busy with her books.

But her husband saw one

JEANNINE BOUILLER.

last month. About 6 in the evening as he was leaving a small eatery where he works as a daytime counterman. (This would place the arrival of the season earlier tllan May 15, but Mrs. Rigberg didn't care. Let somebody else claim the credit i! he wants to,)

N E W T RE N D ON SP A C E T RA V E L B y

M a x B. Mill e r Cont'd from last issue

The present conception of rocket travel is the utilization of a c hemic al hi-f uel system (presentiy considered is Hydrazine and Nitric Acid) .

It is believed by the group e x pl o i t i ng t h is m e t ho d o f inter planeta ry f l i g h t t hat may prove itself more desirable . To date, however, there is no indic ation as to just how this can be accomplished .

FLYING SAUCER STUDY INDICATES NEW THEORY.

In the recent book, ''SPACE TRAVEL'' by Kenneth W . Gatland and Anthony M . K unesc h, the authors state, in the final chapter, that even the stars are considered as possi ble destinations for future space ships . It would require more than 130, 000 yea rs to reach the nearest star with a chemical rocket, it is claimed, hut an atomic one might need only 35 0 y e a r s .

Since Fl ying S auce rs (or Unidentified Flying Ohjects

UFO' s -as they are now popular 1 y termed ) were widely sighted in 1947, those who were openminded enough to consider their existence began to wonder what propulsive power they may use .

After many years of research the present consensus of scientific minds a t work on t he s u b je c t in d ic ate th a t t h e greatest possibility is that of an electro-gravitational force-or, sometimes shortened to G-fie 1 d . The reported chang-1 n g c o l o r i n s i g h t i n g s , tremendous s peed, shape (a 10

Professor Hermann Oherth, world famous German mathematic i an and rocket au thor i t y , to 1 d the International Astronautical Congress at Innsbruck, Germany, August 1 954, that he not only believed in the existence of Flying Saucers, but also was convinced that, they are extrat e r r e s t r i a l .

He added that the behavior of flying saucers ruled out any means of propulsion known to us, and certainly rocket propulsion. A possible explanation he declared, was the use of an ''A n t i-g r a v i t y d e v i c e . ' '

SPACE, GRAVITY AND

THE FLYING SAUCERS

FLYIN G SA U C E R S H A V E LAND E D by George Adamski and Desmond Leslie, published in October 1953, speedily won a very large audience in America and England, and is now being translated into most of the European languages.

Now Leonard Cramp, a member of the Interplanetary Society of England, examines George Adamski's claims and, in particular, makes a rigorous scientific examination of the Adamski photographs of flying saucers. Cramp demonstrates why he believes the -photographs to be authentic.

Cramp shows that the reports of sightings from all over the world have assumed such a definite pattern that they contain a clue to the secret of

· their means of flight. He develops a well thought out and original theory of space travel, based on overcoming gravity, which makes present day rocket experiments seem clumsy and old-fashioned. He began his studies

FLYING SAUCER

FROM MARS by Cedric Allingham

$2.75

Cedric Allingham, author of this new book, is no mystic but a trained scientific observer with considerable astronomical knowledge. He claims that in February, 1954, he saw a Hying saucer land in North Scotland, and not only photographed it from close range but made direct contact with its occupant, who indicated that he came from the planet Mars. Mr. Allingham's description is fully confirmed by an independent witness, James Duncan.

This book has• been written not as a sensational story but as a sober scientific document. It contains a selection of the author's remarkable and hitherto unpublished photographs.

of the problem of gravity when it became clear to him that the behavior of the Hying saucer conformed to none. of the methods of space propulsion advocated by his fellow members of of the Interplanetary Society.

The book also contains numerous photographs and drawings by the author.

Desfi¥>nd Leslie, co-author of FLYlNG SAUCERS HAVE LANDED, in the introduction to this book, tells the story of what has come to be known as the Coniston photographs of a Hying saucer in England.
