Presidents Message What hearty women in ECWGG. It has been unbelievably hot but we have still had great participation in not only regular Tuesday play but also in some of the tourna- ments we have held during the month of July. After the first day of the Partner’s Tournament we had a general meeting. Thank you all who stayed and gave us some great input on Visitations and other issues. You have been sent the proposed changes in by-laws and policy and procedures. Some of you have responded with sugges- tions which will be discussed at our next Board meeting in August. We would love to hear from more! Please take the time to read these changes over so that when we meet at our closing luncheon, we can move through the process smoothly. Hats off to all of the ladies who have been working on Member-Guest. It will be a fantastic time because of all of the work that has been done. As always, if you have any ques- tions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Charleen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . !!RULES CHAIR-MAN REPORT RULES OF GOLF Submitted by June L Overberg ECWGG Rules chairperson Excerpts from Maria Palagola LPGA . Maria is one of the top 50 female instructors in the World !!

FLAGSTICK ON THE GREEN ! !When to pull it !The gist of all of this is if you are on the green be sure to take the flag out or ask someone to tend it. If you hit the flag it's a 2 stroke penalty in stroke play or loss of hole if you are in match play !If you are off of the green there is no penalty if you hit the flag unless you ask someone to tend it and then they don't pull it out. So make sure that you are clear when you are off the green that you want someone to tend it and pull it as your ball nears. In most cases unless you really think you are going to make it or at least have a chance to, it's probably best to leave the pin in. If you think you are going to drain it pull it out so it won't deflect the ball. Short chips around the green, putts from the fringe can be made whereas a 40 yard pitch shot most likely won't be, !Something to note is that if someone is not tending the flag when you put, they can't run up there and tend it after you have struck your ball if they think you are going to hit the flag. They would incur a penalty for doing do . However, if the flag is lying on the ground and someone moves the flag so the ball won't strike it, that is not a penalty The flip side is what if you ask someone to pull it and they don't? Unfortunately you would actually incur the penalty unless it was intentional. If it is intention-al and they tried to influence your ball or force you to get penalized they will be disqualified. !Hopefully that helps clear up some of the common misconceptions when it comes to dealing with the flagstick. Although some of the rules may seem silly or unfair, a lot of thought has gone into them for hundreds of years and there is a reason for everything when it comes to the rules of golf. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, it always helps to stay up on the rules and review them pe-riodically so no questions arise during play. !Reminder: Make every effort to stay up with the group in front of you. It makes for Happy Golfers.

Solheim Wine and Whine Cup August 23 Here is a copy of the scorecard that will be used in the Solheim Wine & Whine Cup, Tuesday, August 23rd. Please take some time to look it over so you will be comfortable golfing the 3 formats. Please note that since we are doing a shotgun start most of us will not always be able to play 6 consecutive holes of the same format. For an example, if you start on hole #4, you will play 4-5-6 as Best Ball, 7-8-9-10-11-12 as Alternating Shots, 13-14-15-16-17-18 as Match Play, and then finish up on 1-2-3 as Best Ball. SCORING: 4 points possible for each foursome. Best Ball scores 1 point, Alternating Shots score 1 point, Match Play (two matches) score 2 points. For questions or concerns please check with Carole Flinn, Sandee Martin or Bobbie Haas. We hope you will plan to participate and make this new event a success. We will gather after golfing at the home of Bobbie Haas (8840 Eagle Crest Blvd) for appetizers and to wine & whine. Please sign up early and pay your $5 in advance to aid us in ordering the correct amount of food & wine. Golf,⛳ ️ Wine 🍷 & Friendship👭 . Who could ask for more!! !SENIOR WOMEN’S GOLF

(COSWGG) by Lael Cooksley

July was super busy for Senior Women – we had three events - Crooked River Ranch, Lost Tracks and Desert Peaks.

Thirteen ladies golfed at Crooked River Ranch and supported their Rally for the Cure event and everyone looked so nice in pink. Certificate winners were Lisa Bendix (2), Diane Con-cannon, Charleen Hurst, Mary Inman, Patricia Peters, and Lola Solomon. We even scored a couple of the raffle prizes to add to a wonderful day.

Lost Tracks weather was fantastic which made for some very interesting golf for our eleven players. The dog-legs got the best of several of us but, Jeri Henri, Sandy Middlebrook, Charleen Hurst and Darlene Nash made a good showing with their winning certificates.

Then the play at Desert Peaks was really good for 6 of our 7 ladies with Candy Matsukado (2), Diane Concannon, Lee Ann Mattison, Charleen Hurst, Patricia Peters and Lola Solomon all coming away with certificates…what happened to our 7th lady??? That was me! And I just failed to show any technique at all…next time!

If you are interested in playing Senior Women next year, now is the time to apply – just fill out the form from the Ridge Pro Shop bulletin board and send to Lael Cooksley or Charleen Hurst.

Returning Senior Women need to complete the renewal form in the back of their COSWGA handbook and submit with payment to Lael Cooksley or Charleen Hurst. If you aren’t re-newing you still need to complete the form and send it to us so we can keep our records and reports current
