Aloha Golf Club

Aloha Golf Club was the last course designed by the renowned Spanish designer, Javier Arana, who also designed, among others, El Saler (Valencia), El Prat (Barcelona), and Neguri (Bilbao). He died in 1975, just as Aloha was being completed.

On 25th October 1975, Mr. Angel de la Riva, current President of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation took the inaugural drive from the first tee. In October 2015 Aloha will celebrate its 40th Anniversary.

Located in Golf Valley, Marbella, Aloha is one of the most prestigious and well-established golf clubs on the Costa del Sol -a private members club that has one of the most beautiful and well-kept golf courses in Spain.

Aloha has hosted 3 PGA Tour events in recent years and is a Par 72 parkland course that requires accuracy from the tee and a good touch around the greens.

The course undulates through trees and lakes with outstanding views of ‘La Concha’ mountain and the Mediterranean Sea. The course designer, Javier Arana, further enhanced the playing experience by planting a wide range of trees and shrubs that provide beautiful displays of colour throughout the year.

Aloha, a 'members only' club, has developed a friendly atmosphere - many of our members use the Club as their ‘second home’.

Aloha has a great reputation across Europe for organising events. Our members, come from all over the world with more than 20 different nationalities represented. This integrated mix of Spanish and international cultures is a key element of Aloha Golf Club.

The unique social atmosphere created by our members, our links with Marbella society, and our magnificent golf course, have made Aloha one of the most prestigious and respected Clubs in Spain.

Throughout its history, the Club has been honoured by the presence of personalities such as HM Mr. Juan de Borbón, Prince Klaus of Holland, Prince Edward from England and the King of Malaysia.

Tournaments Experience

Aloha has hosted many prestigious tournaments. In 1978 we hosted the Spanish Amateur Championship. In 1989 Aloha hosted the II International Mixed Professional Golf Tournament, won by Miguel Angel Jiménez and Xonia Wunsch. 1993 saw the Club host the Match Amateur Spain v. England.

In more recent years the Club has been privileged to welcome the PGA European Tour.

Tournaments Experience

The best professional players have played in Aloha. Lee Westwood, set the course record of 64 strokes when he won The PGA European Tour event here in 2007. This ended a drought of victories and was the turning point in his career culminating in him becoming World Number 1.

In 2008 Ryder Cup player Thomas Levet was victorious. More recently, in 2012, the event was won by Julien Quesne.

Our success in hosting the highest level competition is supported by the opinions of some of the players who competed in Aloha, such as Lee Westwood and José María Olazábal. Our Honorary Member Miguel Angel Jimenez, sent a letter to our members after the Open of 2007.

Dear Members and friends,

As Honorary member of Aloha Golf Club, it is an honour to convey these words to you in this edition of Aloha and to make an overall evaluation of the Valle Romano Open de Andalucia 2007.

From the very first moment, the Open was proposed, something for which I have always fought to come back, I felt that Aloha fulfilled all requirements to be the venue of such an event.

Aloha is a distinctive name in the world of golf, with a high recognition inside and outside our frontiers, this being a reason why I am so excited to share this experience with my professional colleagues from the PGA European Tour. In addition, I am flattered by being able to expose Aloha worldwide through the Open de Andalucia.

Following the huge success, great expectations have arisen amongst my professional colleagues, who were captivated by the design and preparation of the course, and above all by the warm welcome received. We are organising the next edition of the Open de Andalucia in 2008 with great enthusiasm and would very much appreciate if Aloha could stage it again and if we count on your full support one more year.

I would like to convey my most sincere gratitude and congratulations to all members for the loyalty and trust you have placed on us. It was thanks to your unconditional support that much higher than expected results were achieved.

I would also like to express my gratitude and most sincere appreciation to all the staff, greenkeepers, maintenance team, caddy masters, restaurant and office staff as well as the management of this Club for their support.

“Today I have asked Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño to host the future Open de Andalucia in Aloha, it is incredible how well prepared it has been in just three months. Sometimes we play in other courses that have a whole year to be prepared and they are not much less in the conditions as Aloha. It is a traditional course, where you have to use your head and other clubs in the bag as well as the Driver. Pars 3 are hard but very good" (Lee Westwood, Open 2007).

“Aloha is a very good golf course, short but very well defended; it is tight, and is a test for all the shots, slice, draw... The Greens are small and undulating, it is essential to hit straight and to control the trajectory of the ball" (José María Olazábal, Open 2008).

The Club has a driving range with 25 positions (2,500 square metres of practice tees). The range has a width of 100 metres and a length of 250, offering sufficient capacity for all the Solheim Cup players to practice simultaneously. We also have a chipping area of 3,000 square metres and three putting greens near the 1st Tee area.

In addition, we would have use of another Driving Range located just 300 metres from the Club House.

The Blue Parking is perfectly located for buses, lorries and trucks.

Parking capacity can be easily enlarged with the public parkings located in the area:

• Puerto Banús: 4,000 parking places at only 4 minutes from Aloha (see the map).

• Marbella City (Eastern side): several thousand parking places at only 10 minutes from Aloha.

• San Pedro de Alcántara Town (Western Side): several thousand parking places at only 8 minutes from Aloha.

Shuttle service can be easily arranged for the public.

Aloha Golf is situated less than 5 minutes from the A-7 motorway and from the AP-7 toll motorway (E-5), and has two roads access to the Club House (East and West).

Our Restaurant is run by one of the most prestigious restauranteurs of Marbella, Restaurante Cipriano, from Puerto Banus. Great quality and excellent service are guaranteed with a capacity of 350 diners inside the Club House.

The players of the PGA Andalucian Open, agreed our Restaurant was one of the highest qualities amongst the caterings of the European Tour.

Aloha also provides its members with a first class Health Club, an exclusive installation dedicated to providing safe, effective and fun activities, helping them to create or maintain a healthy lifestyle. Located in the Club House, this area could be used as the Tournament Office.

The Club has access to the new

Sports Hall of Aloha College, which has an area of 4,000 square metres, distributed over two floors, and is located just 20 metres in front of the main entrance of the Club House, having direct access through the car park.

Apart from that, Marbella is a place used to welcoming tourists, having available an important number of properties for temporary rental. Our Club has amongst its members many top real estate agents that would be delighted to assist in the organization of the accommodation.

Aloha Golf Club & Charity

Aloha Golf Club is well known in Marbella for its support to charities., Our Club is one of the most demanded by the charity entities for their events.

In 2012, Aloha Golf Club was awarded with the “Premio Solidaridad”,by the Town Hall, for being one of the most supportive establishments to local charities, and was also recognized in 2013 by the local association Horizonte Proyecto Hombre Marbella.

The principal charity event is our Pro-Am Andrés Jiménez, which celebrated its XXXV edition in December 2014. This Pro-Am brings together more than two hundred players from all Europe, including Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who supports and plays this Tournament every year.
