Who we are…Journal Inc. is divided into three operating divisions, Journal Publishing, Journal Logistics and Journal Interactive. We first published in 1870 as the Lee County Journal, and are now the largest locally owned daily newspaper in the state, read by more than 85,000 Northeast Mississippians each day.

Community owned. In 1934 George and Anna K. McLean purchased the newspaper with fewer than 500 subscribers. In 1972 they founded a non-profit charitable organization, CREATE (Christian, Research, Education, Action, Technical, Enterprises) to stimulate private giving and improve the quality of life throughout Northeast Mississippi. In 1983 the McLeans gave the newspaper to the community through CREATE rather than selling it for millions of dollars to a national newspaper chain. Through CREATE, Journal Publishing has given more than $10 million dollars back into the community which has had a turnaround effect of more than $65 million.

Journal Publishing is our print media division, made up of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, eight weeklies and three total market coverage products. Area weeklies are the Pontotoc Progress, the Monroe Journal, the Chickasaw Journal, the Itawamba County Times, Ripley’s Southern Sentinel, Ashland’s Southern Advocate, the New Albany Gazette and Oxford Citizen. With total market coverage products, the Lee County Neighbors, Gazette Guide, and Today In Alcorn County, our printed products distribute to 148,900 households and reach more than 327,000 readers.

Journal Logistics is our commercial real estate division that consists of more than one million square feet of space. Mr. McLean built incubator warehouses in the early 50’s to provide fledging manufacturers a start with affordable space. We now provide area, state, and national companies inventory management, warehouse leasing and commercial offices.

Journal Interactive includes 13 websites which provide the people of Northeast Mississippi the latest in national, state, and most importantly, local news, sports, weather, business, and advertising. Sites are djournal.com, NeMissJobs.com, nemshomes.com, monroecountyjournal.com, chickasawjournal.com, itawambatimes.com, pontotocprogress.com, newalbanygazette.com, southernsentinel.com, southern-advocate.com, oxfordcitizen.com, bizzbuzz.djournal.com, and corinthtoday.com.

A division of our interactive department is a digital agency, Thrive Marketing, that creates websites, manages social media campaigns, digital marketing, and search engine rankings.

The future. This year, we celebrate 147 years of service. However, the past is history. We look forward to the future as we continue to invest, act as a model for community involvement, and promote projects that will insure the continued growth of Northeast Mississippi. Hopefully we can be of future service to you.

Journal Publishing has joined the ranks of many national newspapers in converting to modular advertising units.

By employing modular ad sizing, the Journal has replaced designing ads by columns or inches, with logical page portions, such as full, half, quarter, eighth, etc.

Discounts encourage you to take advantage of our new design initiative.

Our aim is to provide the same standardized sizes and target opportunities found in other media, such as magazines, the Internet, TV and radio.
