TOT was launched with performances of Lehar's The Count of Luxembourg in 1985 and was incorporated as a not-for-profit performing arts organization in 1989. Over 58 operetta productions have followed, including performances of popular and seldom seen works. The TOT is led by the dynamic leadership of Guillermo Silva- Marin, founder and artistic director. Guillermo was named "Ten Most Influential Hispanic-Canadians" (2008) award-winner Guillermo Silva-Marin is the founder and continuing General Director of Toronto Operetta Theatre. He became the General Director of the prestigious Opera in Concert organization in 1994 and founded Summer Opera Lyric Theatre in 1986. All of TOT’s performances take place at the St Lawrence Centre for the Arts, located in the midst of the Toronto Theatre District. TOT was twice a participant in the Toronto Street Festival joining forces with such participants as the Toronto Symphony at the Scotiabank Site on St. Clair Avenue. TOT has toured to Brantford, Sault St. Marie, Welland, Belleville, Orangeville, Collingwood, Kitchener Waterloo, Haliburton and the Algoma Fall Festival for concert presentations and fully-staged productions

Role:The TOT is currently recruiting for the role of General Manager (GM) to lead the organization’s business operations. The GM would work alongside the Artistic Director and report directly to the TOT Board of Directors. This is an opportunity for a dynamic, driven, decisive leader, to take charge of the management of the business operations under the direction and guidance of the Board of Directors. The GM will be responsible

for leading and the implementing the strategic plan aligned with the mission and vision of the organization. The position of GM has a broad scope of responsibility and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for meaningful part time work. 

Duties and Responsibilities:Business Operations:• Designing and preparing budget projections, financial statements and providing any and all updates to the Board of Directors as well as maintaining financial records • Prioritizing fundraising strategies, including but not limited to government funding agencies, grant applications, the corporate and private sector appeals, foundation appeals and special fundraising events• Supervision and management of staff and general office duties including hiring and contracting of outside clerical help and volunteer assistance as required• Contracting and overseeing matters related to venues • Negotiating, implementing and assessing all regulations from the various Unions and association representing artistic personnel and staff for the company including but not limited to Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (CAEA), The Toronto Musician’s Union, ACTRA, Union des Artistes, P. Q., IATSE (Stage hands), OPSEU and others.• In charge of Payroll, timetables and scheduling of payments in coordination with the Artistic Director and TOT bookkeeper • Implement and oversee marketing and promotional plans, including but not limited to the press, paid advertisement, social media, website, subscription campaigns, single ticket sales, house programs, flyers, newsletters, e-news and tools used from time to time for special events• Implement and oversee Share Service Agreements• Leveraging opportunities for additional income• Providing research, analysis and supporting documentation as required and requested by the Board 

People and Leadership• Supports the Board in developing and managing operations and growth• Working in cooperation with staff, the Board and volunteers in support of the artistic plan for each year• Maintaining strong public relations policies and strategies that include outreach initiatives and audience development targets• Build and maintain strong relationships with sister companies and participate in reciprocal ventures to promote and market the TOT program and brand• Reporting to the Board of directors at all board meetings. • Other duties as required

• 5+ years in general business management, preference given to those with direct experience managing a small business. • A track record of strong negotiation skills• University degree required, MBA preferred• Excellent written and oral communication skills• Fully proficient in Microsoft office• Experience in budgeting, marketing and fundraising in the not-for-profit sector, a special knowledge of all the key elements that constitute a charitable organization in Canada eg. applying for grants and subsidies • A strong team player with a capacity for collaborative work with staff and volunteers alike, in pursuit of excellence in performance on stage and at the TOT Office.• Strong leadership skills and ability to adapt quickly to changing budgetary constraints
