Our recent Scholastic Book

Fair, held in conjunction

with Grandparents’ Day

was a TREMENDOUS

success!!! It was, by far,

the largest Book Fair

Je-Neir has EVER had!

Thanks to all the

Grandparents and families

that supported this

worthwhile event. 50% of

the total Fair sales were

returned to our library and

classrooms in books. That

makes an immense

difference to our school!

Thanks to ALL who

donated their loose change

for our Book Fair Change

War. A total of $1814.97

To learn more about us follow us or like us on . . .

was collected in only five

days! An additional $1325

was given to classrooms in

incentives. That put a grand

total of $3139.97 worth of

books in our classrooms.

What a HUGE impact that

will make on all of our

students.

Thanks for

encouraging a love

of Reading!!!

Kindergarteners have been

hard at work. Already this

year we have been

reviewing our letters and

letter sounds. We have

been printing our names

and reading simple

sentences using our sight

words (I, am, the, little, a,

and to). We are also

continuing to practice

counting and writing the

numbers, zero through ten.

The Kindergarteners are

also working on following

instructions and school

rules. They are learning

how to interact with

Classmates in the

cafeteria, on the

playground and in the

classroom. We also all

enjoyed our field trip to

State Line Apple

Orchard, dress-up days

and watching the

Homecoming Parade.

2nd Grade Write-up

In 2nd

grade, we have had

very busy days! As

always, the days consist of

a great deal of Reading,

Writing, and Arithmetic.

On top of that, we are

learning about simple

machines, and are

becoming engineers

during our STEM lessons.

STEM is all about

Science, Technology,

Engineering, and Math.

However, it is also about

sharing ideas, working

cooperatively, and being

creative. In Music class

(and in the classroom), we

are working hard to be

ready for our concert in

November. We can’t wait

for you to see the

performance! Working

hard is an important part

of the 2nd

grade day.

“Self-belief and hard

work will always earn

you success.”- Virat

Kohli –

We look forward to

meeting with you on

October 19th

for Parent-

teacher conferences to

discuss your child’s hard

work and success!

Happy October from 1st

grade! It's hard to believe

that the 1st 9 weeks of

school is almost over.

Time is going by fast and

we are beginning to get

into the heart of 1st grade

work. After 6 weeks of

review in Reading we will

be starting weekly

Spelling and

Comprehension tests.

Also, Spelling and

Comprehension

homework will be sent

home on a weekly basis to

be practiced and returned by

Friday. Watch for these

changes in your child's

folder. We will also be

sending home readers that

go with our Spelling word

pattern that need to be read

and returned with your child.

Continue to read with your

child every night.

In Math we are going to start

working on getting the

students ready for Addition

and Subtraction. We will be

doing this for a while,

continuing to work on

many different strategies

and skills. In Science and

Social Studies we will be

working on several Fall

topics, such as Christopher

Columbus, Fire Safety,

Bats, Pumpkins, and

Spiders. Parent-Teacher

conferences are also

coming up soon, so please

schedule an appointment

with your child's teacher.

Thanks for all your

support at home.

3rd Grade Happenings

In Third grade we have been working on Place Value, rounding, estimating, and mental math. In Social studies our chapter is all about our communities. We have a new Science addition to our curriculum called Mystery Science. We are working on our Reading comprehension, phonics, and fluency. Coming up in October, keep an eye out for our Cereal Box biography introduction. It will be coming soon and it is our first big research project!

4th Grade STEM Activity --- Marble Runs

4th

Graders have been off to

a great start this school year!

They have done well with

learning how to switch

classes and bringing their

materials. In Science, we

finished our Energy Unit,

where the students had the

chance to build roller

coasters and rubber band

racers! New this year, 3rd

and 4th

graders will have the

chance to be part of a LEGO

robotics team! If your child

was interested in trying out

for the team, information

should have already been

brought home. There are

many requirements to be

part of the team, and it

requires a big

commitment, so if your

student is interested,

please talk with them

about the dedication it

will take to be part of this

awesome opportunity.

Also please be talking

to your child about

organization and

responsibility. The end of

the first nine weeks is

rapidly approaching, and

any help and support from

home to help students turn

in home -work and

participate in class would

be appreciated!

Physical Education

Hello Parents,

For the month of October we will be doing our soccer unit for the first three weeks, as long

as the weather stays nice enough for us to be outside. Please have your child bring a

sweatshirt or coat if you think they will need it. Third and fourth grade will review soccer

skills and play scrimmage games during class. First and second grade will work on soccer

skills, and Kindergarten will be doing a kicking unit. The weather will depend on what we

do the last week of October. If it is pleasant we will stay outside and work on some

baseball skills. If it is cold we will be inside working on volleyball skills. Please remember

to have your child bring proper footwear to school on their P.E. days, especially since we

will be kicking soccer balls. Thank you!

We’ve headed into the beautiful season of Autumn. It will still be nice enough weather to have the recorders

practice outside.

The 4th

graders have each received a practice chart from me to keep tract of the time put into playing. They

know to fill it out every day, even if they don’t practice. I’ve asked them to have you initial it each day, or at the

end of the week. It may seem strict but what it really is, is teaching elements to the Students of what it takes to

be successful, whether in music or any other discipline.

Watch music show itself as the universal language. Fabio Vetro, https://youtu.be/gE3_J0oCcbI?t=88 gives

a good recorder lesson, even if it is in Italian! Watch his fingers, follow along with this lesson on Jingle Bells, a

song from our repertoire. It’s in the same key.

The 2nd

grade show has been moved from October to Tuesday, November 14th from 6pm – 7pm., providing

more time to learn lyrics, and to be successful. It will be the first one at Je-Neir instead of the high school.

Is there one song you can teach your child today? Music glues us to each other’s heart.
