The Art of Noise8 September 2018 – 16 March 2019An exhibition of paintings and sculpture drawn from The Atkinson’s collection linking art and music in innovative ways. From avant-garde to contemporary music, artists include Laura Knight, Paul Nash and Richard Hamilton.
Frank Hampson: The Man Who Drew Dan Dare15 September 2018 – 16 March 2019One of the most important British comic strip artists of the post – war period. This exhibition features original artwork and graphics.
The Landing: Artwork for Sale3 November 2018 – 30 March 2019A selection of artwork for sale by local artists. Wirral Society of Arts exhibition highlights the diverse range of its’ 160+ talented, contemporary artists.
ARTIST ROOMS: Robert Mapplethorpe 15 December 2018 – 23 March 2019Robert Mapplethorpe was one of the most important artists of the late 20th Century. The exhibition includes iconic self-portraits, studies of flowers and portraits of many of the most influential artists and celebrities of the New York cultural scene in the 1970s and 1980s.
The ARTIST ROOMS touring programme is delivered by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate in a partnership with Ferens Art Gallery until 2019, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by Art Fund and by the National Lotterythrough Creative Scotland.
David Ogle: The Last Light 12 January – 23 March 2019The legacy of artistic responses to Sefton’s coast is reflected upon within this exhibition, presenting works from The Atkinson’s collection alongside David’s own work.
Dr Jekyll’s Laboratory: Science and Medicine in the Nineteenth Century9 February – 25 May 2019Come and explore a Victorian doctor’s study, experience the wonder and fear of nineteenth-century medicine, and find out if you have what it takes to be a Victorian surgeon!
Discover Ancient EgyptOur stunning Egyptology Gallery takes visitors on a journey through what life was like in ancient Egypt at the time of the Pharaohs.
Between Land and SeaExplore the history of those who have lived and worked along the Sefton coast, from prehistoric times to the present day.
Discover, Explore & PlayFollow one of our free family trails, designed to help visitors of all ages have fun whilst exploring The Atkinson. Trails can be downloaded from our website or picked up in the museum. You can also visit The Art Box & The Discovery Box; interactive spaces where everyone can get creative and experiment with materials and ideas.
