Można by ich drogę określić jako poszukiwanie prawdy i wiary, poszukiwanie sensu życia. Nazwano ich w późniejszym czasie Królami, nawet nadano im imiona: Kacper, Melchior i Baltazar. W historycznych księgach pisze się o wystawieniu im po śmierci wspaniałych grobowców, w których mimo upływu czasu ich ciała nie tylko nie uległy

zniszczeniu, lecz wręcz odmłodniały. Ludzie szukają ludzi. Niektórzy pokonują duże odległości, aby z kimś się spotkać. Podejmują wiele trudności i niewygód, aby móc zobaczyć wytęsknioną osobę. Podobnie postępowali Mędrcy ze wschodu, których spotykamy na kartach dzisiejszej Ewangelii. Byli oni bardzo konsekwentni w szukaniu Mesjasza, żadne przeszkody nie przerwały ich przedsięwzięcia. „Weszli do domu i zobaczyli Dziecię z Matką Jego, Maryją; upadli na twarz i oddali Mu pokłon. I otworzywszy swe skarby, ofiarowali Mu dary: złoto, kadzidło i mirrę.” (Mt 2,11-12) „Epifania” – czym jest ten dzisiejszy dzień? Co on dla nas oznacza? To dzień Objawienia się Boga–człowieka. Jak podają teksty, objawił się Bóg–człowiek, który postanowił nam dać szansę. Wynika z tego, że powinniśmy wiedzieć więcej o wierze, miłości, dobroci. Powinniśmy, fakt niezaprzeczalny, ale czy wiemy? „Bo przecież słyszeliście o udzieleniu przez Boga łaski danej mi dla was, że mianowicie przez objawienie oznajmiona mi została ta tajemnica, Nie była ona oznajmiona synom ludzkim w poprzednich pokoleniach, tak jak teraz została objawiona przez Ducha świętym Jego apostołom i prorokom.”(Ef 2,3.5) W uroczystość Epifanii Kościół dziękuje Bogu za dar wiary, która stała się i wciąż na nowo staje się udziałem tylu ludzi. Świadkami tego daru, jego nosicielami, jednymi z pierwszych byli właśnie owi trzej ludzie ze Wschodu. Znajduje w nich swój przejrzysty wyraz wiara jako wewnętrzne otwarcie człowieka, jako odpowiedź na światło, na Epifanię Boga. W ten dzień jesteśmy świadkami obrzędów błogosławieństwa kredy i kadzidła, znaczenia kredą drzwi domów. Zaś w Kościołach wspominamy i wspomagamy misje i misjonarzy, którzy nierzadko narażają własne życie, głosząc Jezusa Chrystusa. Rozważając to wszystko, stańmy się poszukiwaczami, uszanujmy ten dzień jako dzień poszukiwania, dzień wrastania w wierze, dzień objawienia się Boga. W końcu jesteśmy Jego dziećmi... Boże, który posłałeś na świat Swego Syna, Światłość Prawdziwą, prosimy, obdarz nas duchem wytrwałości, abyśmy żyjąc prawdą i miłością dali odpowiedź wiary. Szczęść Boże!

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Their quest could be defined as the search for truth and faith, the search for the meaning of life.They were later called Kings, even given the names: Cas-par, Melchior and Balthazar. In historical books it is said that they had grand tombs built in their honor, tombs in which their bodies not only withstood the test of me, but actually looked years younger. People are always looking for other people. Some cover long distances to see someone. They take on a lot of difficul es and hardships, to be able to see the person they long for. The wise men from the east, whom we meet in the pages of today's Gos-pel did the same. They were very persistent in finding the Mes-siah, no obstacles were able to hinder their mission. "On com-ing to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures, they presented him with gi s of gold, frankincense and myrrh. "(Mt 2,11-12) What is this day of "Epiphany"? What does it mean to us? It is the day of revela on of a God-man. According to the texts, a God-man, who decided to give us a chance is revealed on this day. It seems then that we should know more about faith, love, and kindness. It's an undeniable fact that we should, but do we? "If indeed you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace which was given to me for you how the mystery was made known to me by revela on, as I have wri en briefly. As you read what I have wri en, you will understand my insight into this plan regarding Christ which in other genera ons was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been re-vealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit. (Eph 2,3.5) On the Feast of the Epiphany the Church thanks God for the gi of faith, which is shared by so many people over and over again. The first witnesses of this gi , its first bearers, were the three wise men from the East. In them faith first finds its clear expression, the openness of man and a response to light and the Epiphany of God. On this day we witness the rites of bless-ing of chalk and incense, the marking of doors with chalk. And in the churches we remember and we support the missions and missionaries who o en put their lives at risk by proclaiming Jesus Christ. While contempla ng all of this, let us become seekers, Let us respect this day as a day of explora on, the day of growth in faith, the day of the revela on of God. A er all, we are His chil-dren ... God, who sent His Son into the world, the True Light, please give us the spirit of perseverance, so that we may live in truth and love, proclaiming our faith. God bless you!

EXCITING PARISH TRANSFORMATION NEWS! The Parish Transforma on Team members who worked on the mission aspect of the program included in the Ac on Plan the ins tu on of a monthly Chil-dren’s Liturgy of the Word. This is a program where children from 5 to 10 years of age are invited during the Liturgy to go to a separate loca on and hear an age appropriate lesson related to the readings of the day. They will depart for approximately 15 minutes and then return to celebrate the rest of the mass with their parents. We will begin this program with the first Sunday of February, that is, February 1st at the 10:30 AM Mass. Catechists from the Religious Educa on Program will be organizing the materials and will be in charge of this program. Please watch the bulle n for more informa on regard-ing this program. In an cipa on of the approaching 100-year anniversary of St. Constance Parish, you are invited to purchase from the "Tree of Life" a leaf on which you can place the names of your loved ones: parents, siblings, rela ves, friends, parishioners, priests, nuns, etc. Both the living and the dead can be named, so that their memory will last forever. You can have your own name on a leaf or choose to name your family. Proceeds from this project will be used for repairs of the church parking area and parish buildings. There are both large and small leaves on the "Tree of Life". For the engraving and moun ng of each small leaf, the dona on is $250.00, while for each large leaf it is $400.00. This Sunday, we celebrate the Solemn Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord Jesus to the Ma-gi. Epiphany comes the Greek words, epi phanos, "to appear." The Lord of Lords and Creator of the Universe made Himself known to all the world. Now, because of the Birth and Epiphany of the Lord Jesus Christ, there can be no mistake, no ignorance, no foot dragging, no Luke warmness: God comes to us. Epiphany focuses on the manifesta on of the Divinity of Jesus Christ to all the world . . . "God so loved the world He sent His only Son that whosoever believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life." (Jn. 3:16). There it is: God wanted to EXPLICITLY reveal Himself (in the Incarna on and Epiphany), He wanted to LOVINGLY manifest Himself (in a Baby), and He wanted to unveil HIS MARVELOUS PLAN to all Jesus "came that you might have life, life abundantly" (Jn. 10:10). At this Epiphany let us resolve to recognize Jesus Christ, as: +the Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity; +the One and only Savior of the world and our souls; +as True God and True Man; + Son of God and Son of Mary, +Lord of Power and Might; + Good and Gentle Shepherd; +Loving and Merciful Lord in His Most Sacred Heart…

On the Feast of the Epiphany, the priest, wearing white vestments, will bless the Epipha-ny water, frankincense, gold, and chalk. Chalk is used to write the ini als of the three ma-gi over the doors of churches and homes. The gospel tells us that the three magi found Christ “on entering the house”. The door to your home is a holy threshold. You can bless those who come in and go out by in-scribing above the door in chalk:

Tradi on tells us that the le er stand for the names of the magi: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. In the early days the le er C+M+B stood for “Christus mansionem benedicat” - “May Christ bless this dwelling. A er inscribing the doorway, say the following prayer:

God in bap sm you bring us into your family. You wed us and embrace us as your beloved. May we fill this place with kindness to one another, with hospitality to guests, and with abundant care for every stranger. By the gentle light of a star, guide home all who seek you on the path of faith, hope and love. Then we will join all angels in proclaiming you praise: Glory in heaven and peace on earth, now and forever. Amen.

To their family we send our sincerest thanks and prayers. May they rest in God’s peace. Our Christmas party was a super success and my hearfelt thanks to all who helped and donated our raffle prizes. According to their website, the Salva on Army has been ringing bells and collec ng cash in their red ke les each holiday season since 1891. That’s the year SA Captain Joseph McFee became troubled that so many of the poor in San Francisco were going hungry. Resolving to do something, McFee recalled his sailor days in Liverpool, England. Specifically, he recalled a large iron ke le at Stage Landing that invited passers-by to support the needy. “The next day,” per the website, “McFee placed a similar pot at the Oak-land Ferry Landing at the foot of Market Street. Beside the pot, he placed a sign that read, ‘Keep the Pot Boiling.” The money came, and the needy were fed at Christmas. With me, the west coast Salva-

mes over the years. Usually, the bell-ringers are posi oned outside stores and are hard to miss. Even if we want to. Two weeks before Christmas, though, at the Jewel at Golf and Arlington Heights Road, I went out of my way to put some cash in the bell ringer’s ke le. Why? Because this bell-ringer was bringing it! Yeah. She had the bell in one hand and a second sound-maker (like, li le, one-handed cymbals, maybe?) in the other and she had them both going full- lt. And she was working the concrete as though it was a stage and everybody in the parking lot was the audience. Her joy was contagious on that cold a ernoon, and I pre y much told her so when I put my dollar into her ke le. Actually what I told her was, “I’ve been pu ng money into these red ke les forever, but I don’t recall anybody having quite as much fun ringing the bell as you.” She smiled and said, “Thank you.” I smiled and said, “Merry Christmas.” When I finished my grocery shopping she was s ll jam-ming out there, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was out there jam-ming s ll. On Epiphany Sunday, I think of that bell-ringer as we remember the magi from the east seeking the new-born king. As today’s Gospel explains, the travelers bow before the Child when they encounter him and offer up their treasures. Let’s consider this. They give Jesus their best. Which is exactly what the drummer boy gave in that song we were humming before Christmas. Which is exactly what Mary gave when she said yes to Gabriel. Which is exactly what Joseph gave when he took his betrothed rather than divorcing her quietly. Which is exactly what the Salva on Army bell-ringer gave. Which is exactly what we should all be giving every day. This no on of giving our best is not new, of course. I mean, it’s not like an epiphany moment or anything. S ll, we forget to some mes. I do, anyway. But some mes, too, someone just ringing a bell prompts us to recall it. Some mes someone just ringing a bell reminds us that we’re called--everyday--to be our very best selves.

Illinois’ overall poverty rate is the same as it was a half-century ago despite scores of state and federal aid programs and a steep drop in the number of older people strug-gling to get by, according to a new report that examines how the state has fared since President Lyndon Johnson declared a na onal War on Poverty. Almost 15 per-cent of Illinois residents, about 1.9 million, lived below the federal poverty line in 2012, about the same as in 1960 before Johnson’s call to ac on. The stubbornly high poverty rate - defined as an annual income below $23,850 for a family of four - reflects, in part, a loss of manufacturing jobs and an increase in part-

me-only and service jobs, as well as a high number of people s ll unemployed since the recession.

Serdecznie zapraszamy abyście z okazji zbliżającego się jubileuszu 100-lecia Parafii św. Konstancji, mogli umieścić imiona i nazwiska waszych bliskich: rodziców, rodzeństwa, krewnych, przyjaciół, parafian, kapłanów, sióstr zakonnych itd. na liściach "Drzewa życia". Można umieścić zarówno żyjących jak i zmarłych, tak by pamięć po nich trwała wiecznie. Można umieścić swoje imię i nazwisko lub też swojej rodziny. Ofiarą, którą składacie będzie przeznaczona na remont parkingu kościelnego i inne remonty budynków parafialnych. W "Drzewie życia" mamy liście mniejsze i większe. Za wygrawerowanie i zamontowanie liścia mniejszego składamy ofiarę $250.00 natomiast za wygrawerowanie i zamontowanie liścia większego $400.00. Liczba liści jest ograniczona i nie będzie wystarczająca dla wszystkich. Zapraszamy więc do naszego biura parafialnego, gdzie można dokonać wszelkich formalności.

ZAPRASZAMY NA SPOTKANIE Z JERZYM ZIĘBĄ Jerzy Zięba od ponad 20 lat zajmuje się neuroterapią, szczególnie w odniesieniu do naturalnych metod leczenia i zapobiegania chorobom przewlekłym i nowotworom. Publikuje artykuły w prasie, jak też prowadzi wykłady dotyczące prostych i skutecznych metod leczenia i zapobieganioa chorobom bez stosowania środków sztucznie syntetyzowanych. Jest dyplomowanym hipnoterapeutą klinicznym w Australii i USA. Jest też tłumaczem książki „Cholesterol – naukowe kłamstwo”, której autorem jest dr. Uffe Ravinskov. Książka ta powstała po wielu latach analiz badań medycznych czy innych publikacji medycznych, które środowisku medycznemu zupełnie nie są znane. Jerzy Zięba jest autorem książki „Ukryte terapie – czego ci lekarz nie powie”. Spotkanie będzie w naszej Sali parafialnej Ks. Borowczyka w wtorek 6-go stycznia, 2015, o godz. 8:00-ej wieczorem i w środę 7-go stycznia, o godz. 7:00-ej wieczorem. Wstęp wolny.

NOWE I INTERESUJĄCE INFORMACJE OD CZŁONKÓW ZESPOŁU PROGRAMU TRANSFORMACJI PARAFII!

Czlonkowie zespołu Transformacji Parafii którzy pracują nad misyjnym aspektem programu zaplanowali comiesieczna Liturgię Słowa dla dzieci. Wprowadzoną nowością będzie katecheza dla dzieci rozważająca Liturgię Słowa z danej niedzieli. Dzieci w wieku od 5 do 10 lat uczęszczające na niedzielną Mszę św. zostaną zaproszone na 15 min. w osobne miejsce by wraz z katechetą porozmawiać i przeanalizować Liturgię Słowa. Po katechezie powrócą do kościoła by wraz z rodzicami nadal czynnie uczestniczyć w ofierze Mszy św. Program ten rozpocznie się w pierwszą niedzielę lutego, czyli 1 lutego na Mszy św. o godz. 10:30. Katecheci z Programu Edukacji Religijnej zorganizuja materiały i będa za ten program odpowiedzialni. Więcej informacji na temat oferowanego programu będzie w kolejnych biuletynach parafialnych. Ewangelia mówi nam, że Trzej Królowie ujrzeli Chrystusa „po wejściu do domu”. Według starożytnej tradycji oznacza się drzwi wypisując kredą:

Litery oznaczają imiona Trzech Magów: Kacpra, Melchiora i Baltazara, którzy przybyli za gwiazdą, aby oddać pokłon Zbawicielowi. W czasach wczesnochrześcijańskich litery C+M+ B oznaczały „Christus mansionem benedicat” czyli „Niech Chrystus błogosławi to domostwo”. Cyfry oznaczają bieżący rok. Po oznaczeniu drzwi można odmówić następującą modlitwę:

Boże, we chrzcie staliśmy się Twoimi przybranymi dziećmi. Złącz nas w swojej miłości. Niech ten dom będzie miejscem dobrych uczynków, serdecznej gościnności i życzliwości wobec innych. Niech ciepły blask gwiazdy betlejemskiej prowadzi do domu wszystkich tych, którzy dążą do Ciebie przez wiarę, nadzieję i miłość. Amen.

Dzisiaj Kościół obchodzi uroczystość Objawienia Pańskiego, w tradycji znaną jako Trzech Króli. Uroczystość już w III w. znana

była na Wschodzie. Około sto lat później pojawiła się także na Zachodzie, gdzie

przeobraziła się w święto Trzech Króli. W liturgii uroczystość ta wiąże się nierozerwalnie z Bożym Narodzeniem.

Objawienie, nazywane z grecka Epifanią, oznacza zjawienie się, ukazanie się bóstwa w ludzkiej postaci. Mędrcy, którzy przybyli do Jezusa złożyli dary. Wedle tradycji były nimi: złoto - symbol godności królewskiej, kadzidło - godności kapłańskiej, mirrę -

symbol wypełnienia proroctw mesjańskich oraz zapowiedź smierci Zbawiciela. Jednocześnie był to

wyraz wiary w Chrystusa prawdziwego człowieka (mirra), prawdziwego Boga (kadzidło) oraz Króla (złoto).

Nie ma zbyt wiele źródłowych dokumentów na temat personaliów Trzech Króli, natomiast więcej jest legend i spekulacji. Pobożność ludowa ze względu na ilość darów ustaliła, że było ich trzech. Dopiero jednak w tradycji VI

w. zaczęto mówić o nich jako o królach, a zanim nazwano ich Kacprem, Melchiorem i Baltazarem, upłynęło kolejnych 300 lat.

W sztuce Kacper przedstawiany jest najczęściej jako ofiarujący mirrę Afrykańczyk, Melchior - jako dający złoto Europejczyk i Baltazar - jako król azjatycki przynoszący do żłóbka kadzidło. Trzej Królowie czczeni są jako patroni podróżujących, pielgrzymów, handlowców, właścicieli gospód oraz kuśnierzy.

INFORMACJE O SAKRAMENTACH ŚWI ĘTYCH Chrzty… Sakrament Chrztu Świętego jest udzielany w języku angielskim i polskim. Chrzty w języku angielskim są w pierwszą i trzecią niedzielę, a w języku polskim w drugą i czwartą niedzielę każdego miesiąca. Rodzice są zobowiązani do wzięcia udziału w spotkaniu przygotowującym do tego sakramentu przed planowaną datą chrztu dziecka. Prosimy o skontaktowanie się z biurem parafialnym, aby zgłosić dziecko do chrztu. Sakrament Małżeństwa… Archidiecezja Chicago zaleca, aby osoby, które planują zawarcie sakramentu małżeństwa zgłosiły się do biura parafialnego co najmniej cztery miesiące przed datą ślubu. Chcielibyśmy i usilnie zalecamy, aby w naszej parafii okres przygotowania trwać sześć miesięcy. Prosimy, abyście najpierw ustalili termin w kościele, a następnie w innych miejscach. Zapraszamy więc do naszego biura parafialnego najwcześniej jak tylko jest to możliwe . Sakrament Namaszczenia Chorych… Prosimy o kontakt z księdzem w celu ustalenia terminu przyjęcia tego sakramentu. Przypominamy, że nie wolno zwlekać z udzieleniem sakramentu chorych do momentu kiedy osoba będzie nieprzytomna lub bliska śmierci. Komunia Święta dla chorych… Jeśli ktoś z was lub waszych bliskich choruje i chciałby przyjąć Komunię Świętą, to prosimy o zgłoszenie osoby chorej do biura parafialnego, do osoby odpowiedzialnej za Duszpasterstwo chorych, aby ustalić datę odwiedzin w domu.

ZADANIE MISYJNE PARAFII ŚW. KONSTANCJI Parafia Św. Konstancji jest modlitewną, opiekuńczą i otwartą na wszystkich wspólnotą Koœcioła Rzymsko-Katolickiego. Parafia, która została założona w 1916 r., przez polskich emigrantów, obecnie jest zróżnicowana kulturowo.
