LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER CAMPS

Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow, with Nathan Whitaker is an in-depth and very personal account of a man of faith in the modern world. It gives insights into his constant striving for success. There are Bible references throughout and the underlying theme is sincere and unwavering.

From the book— “Even if it doesn’t turn out the way that I hope, it will be disappointing but I’ll be alright, because God never stops loving me, or you.” (page 249)

MISSION AND MINISTRY

YES!! You are a member of the Foundation if you are a member of Ascension Lutheran Church

“READ ALL ABOUT IT” I hope you have all taken time to read the FOUNDATION UPDATE that was in your mailbox May 2017. What a Tremendous Journey, Jim Shelton, Past President; Introduce of Michael Price, New President; Critical Support for Youth, Kathy Johnson; Beginning with the End in Mind, Pastor Larson; Financial Information; A Thorough Perspective, Larry Nisbet; Your Foundation Board Members (pictures and Email addresses); Lutheran Heritage Foundation, our Newest Mission, published over 3 million Lutheran books, which are distributed freely to missionaries, churches and individuals. Ascension’s Foundation is committed to supporting four areas: Missions, Outreach, Youth and General Funds, helping to spread God’s Word throughout the world and across our country. Your support has made a lasting difference!! Thank You!

Stephanie Lund our Mission of Christ partner will be coming to Ascension August 13. Stephanie teaches English in Slovakia and continues to grow relationships and rejoices in opportunities to encourage students and answer questions about who Jesus is and what the Gospel means to all. We are looking forward to her visit. Iantha Scheiwe also a Mission of Christ partner shared that two of the young women she had met working in the high school were baptized. Give thanks for the gift of faith for these two women.

Summer is a time for planting and harvesting in the garden. It’s also a good time to plant seeds of Love in the hearts of man by telling them of the hope Jesus our Savior gives to all men. You don’t have to be in the foreign mission field to spread God’s saving gospel message. So go scatter some seeds of Love and Hope. Don’t forget, God will do the harvesting!

In the Narthex, you will find a Foundation Bulletin Board. There are envelopes for special gifts or memorials made to the Foundation. Grant applications and guidelines are available, as well. PLEASE SUBMIT GRANT APPLICATIONS BY THE END OF EACH MONTH. THANKS.

MORE SPECIAL MINISTRIES AND MISSIONS!

Summer has begun! North Littleton Promise has over 60 students registered for the 5 week summer programs that start in July! The 50% increase in the summer program attendance will help students to continue to grow in faith, education, and leadership during the summer months. But they can't do it without the help of Ascension and other area churches! They are looking for people who can sign up to bring a meal to elementary or middle school students this summer or drive students for a field trip. Maybe it's a member at Ascension who has extra time this summer...maybe it's a mission team that is able to take a day to prepare & serve a meal for NLP students...

Here are the links to sign up for bringing meals or driving for a field trip:

If you have any questions or need any further information, please don't hesitate to email Erica at [email protected] . Thanks for partnering with us this summer to make an eternal difference in the lives of these students in North Littleton!

MATTERS OF IMPORTANCE!

We can praise the Lord that that the weather finally gave us enough of a break to complete the paving. Our wonderful new 108 car parking lot allows us enter and exit the new parking efficiently and effectively. The handicapped parking is convenient and spacious. The new positioning of the basketball court and dumpster is an improvement. The additional paving to the storage sheds is attractive and functional. The task that still needs to be completed is the landscaping. The new lighting will be a blessing at night and the landscaping will beautify the property.

We need to give a special thanks to Roger Koester who has endured a year of planning, and an additional half-year of contracting and construction with delays. Roger Koester, Chuck Mielke and Steven Mihok have spent the last nine weeks overseeing the construction for Ascension. The eyes and ears of the ‘oversight crew’ have been very important.

FUND RAISER FOR THE PARKING LOT

The Trustees thank the Congregation for a good parking lot fundraising effort. We have currently raised $64,760 in a short period and expect that some of the dedicated funds pledged to the parking lot will allow us to meet our goal of $70,000. July 1 was the final date for this effort. Future funds will continue to flow into “Project Peter” and will be used at the will and direction of the Congregation and the Council.

We’ll be doing two more movie nights in August, on Wednesday the 23rd

and the 30th

. We’ll be showing “Uncovering the Truth About Dinosaurs,” a four-part series from the Institute of Creation Research. This should be a great series for children as young as fourth grade all the way to children with gray hair! We’ll also have an age appropriate movie in the Nursery for younger children, so bring the whole family! We’ll be serving hot dogs and dinosaur (chicken) sandwiches. Bring a dish to share! It’s a great time for fellowship! Festivities start at 6:15 PM.

In September, we have four great events coming up!

September 7—Our first monthly meeting of the 2017-2018 year, featuring Mr. Martin Barlau, a former educator, who will talk about a creation class he has designed for junior high/high school students. Meetings start at 7PM.

September 9/10—We will partner with the Rocky Mountain Creation Fellowship to bring you several events with Dr. Steve Austin, a leading creation scientist who was one of the scientists featured in the movie, “Is Genesis History?” and has done research at Mt. St. Helens and the Grand Canyon. If you were at our last movie night, you saw his DVD, “Mt. St. Helens.”

On Sunday, September 10, Dr. Austin will speak to the adult class at Shepherd of the Hills on the topic of “Great Earthquakes of the Bible.” The adult class is held in the school gym at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the 10th

at 2 p.m., Dr. Austin will speak on the topic of “Mt. St. Helens: Explosive Evidence for Creation” at the University of Colorado in Boulder. His talk will be held in the Benson Earth Sciences Room 180. Parking is available at University Lutheran Chapel, or, for a minimal fee, in Lot 360, which is close to the Benson Earth Sciences Building.

It is a rare opportunity to have Dr. Austin here for these events! We hope you will join us!

More information on any of these events is available at www.denversocietyofcreation.org/specialevents or, for Dr. Austin’s events, at www.youngearth.org and is also available via flyers posted on the bulletin board.
