CSUCI Lecture - CSUCI Computer Science Students to Defend Medal in NASA Robotics Competition - Kevin Scrivnor Monday, May 7, 6:30pm, Community Room This presentation discusses the CSUCI NASA Swarmathon Robotics team and their trip back to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to defend their 2016 3rd place victory. The challenge is to collect as many objects as possible and return them to a centralized location using autonomous robots. Come to this talk to learn about the competition details, our approach, and the results of this experience.

During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she always sought: her own identity.

Island Mana Dancers Sunday, May 6, from 2 - 3pm, Community Room Island Mana Dancers are a group of Polynesian dancers who have performed for people all over the world sharing the cultures of Tahiti, Hawaii, New Zealand and Samoa. The creative director, Rika, has been dancing her entire life, and has worked on several cruise ships as a Polynesian Ambassador (teacher, dancer), and has toured with a group from Tahiti to France in a musical called “Le Sauvage Blanc.” She was a Costume Design and Dance Consultant for Disney’s movie, Moana, where she designed and made costumes and did some choreography for reference. Rika and her dancers will tell stories through song and dances of Polynesia to better educate the world about the oral traditions of the island people and their connections to the land and water.

The Raspberry Pi can be used and created by children as well as adults. Scratch, the primary programming language used with it, can be used to program interactive stories, animations, and even games.
