ISO 50001 helps organizations to reduce energyconsumption and increase efficiency.

OHSAS 18001 is a British Standard for occupational health

    and safety management systems.

It is widely seen as the worlds most recognizedoccupational health and safety management systemsstandard.[1][2

For all the organizations, the implementation of the improvement cycle Plan-Do-Check-Act should be in the centre of interest when applying the ISO 9001Standard.

Plan: establishing objectives of quality management

Do: implementing the projects and activities according to planning

Check: reviewing implementation for the extent to which the target variableshave been achieved

Act: If the programme has not adequately been implemented or targetvariables have not been achieved, corrective or preventive action will have tobe taken.

    Environmental management

ISO 14001 is for environmentalmanagement. This means what theorganization does to:

    ISO 14001Environmental management

The goal of environmental management acc. to ISO14001 is to promote environmental protection andprevent adverse

environmental impacts and pollution in harmony with

socio-economic requirements. Just like ISO 9001, ISO14001 is based

on the idea of making processes controllable by meansof management systems. Instead of specifying the

    contents, ISO

14001 trusts in the steering effect of managementsystems that work well. For all the organizations, theimplementation of

the improvement cycle Plan-Do-Check-Act should be inthe centre of interest when applying the ISO 14001Standard.

    Energy management

    An Overview of ISO 50001

After the success of management systems for environmental issues(ISO 14001) and quality issues (ISO 9001), ISO has issued ISO 50001for Energy Managenment Systems (EnMS)

ISO 50001 describe energy management system (EnMS) requirements

to allow organizations a blueprint for how to design and implement anEnMS that meets their goals and objectives to reduce energyconsumption and increase efficiency.

ISO 50001 is designed to allow organizations to meet their energypolicy commitments, and take whatever action necessary to improveupon their energy performance.

Components required for an effective EnMS include the energy policy(key) and setting of objectives, targets and action plans (second naturefor developers of an ISO 14001 EMS program).

ISO 50001is a specification created by the International Organizationfor Standardization for an energy management system, which specifies

requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improvingan energy management system, whose purpose is to enable anorganization to follow a systematic approach in achieving continualimprovement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, energy security, energy use and consumption.[1]

    What is OHSAS 18001:2007?

OHSAS 18001:2007 is an international standard that is developed bythe OHSAS project Group, an association that includes governmentagencies, certification bodies, national standards, industry associations, and consultants. The British Standards Institution (BSI) currently

provides the Secretariat of the OHSAS Project Group. The aim of OHSAS 18001 is to assist organizations in managing andcontrolling their health and safety risks and improving their OH&Sperformance. In response to customer demand for an occupationalhealth and safety management system that can be assessedobjectively, certified credibly, and recognized internationally, the

Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS)standards are developed for use by all types of organizations andindustries.

By controlling the OH&S risks that are consistent with their OH&S policyand objectives, organizations can achieve and demonstrate soundhealth and safety performance and stewardship. OHSAS 18000 is an

international occupational health and safety management systemspecification.

An OHSMS determines and continually improves an organizations Healthand Safety position and performance. It follows an outline and is

    OHSAS 18001

The OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Systems)Standard includes criteria for assessing an OH&S (Occupational Healthand Safety) management system for all the companies independentlyfrom their sector or size. If this standard is implemented, the safety

related activities will be systematized, and the processes will beimproved.

Elements of OHSAS 18001 can be combined with those of ISO 9001 andISO 14001 in order to establish a comprehensive and integratedmanagement system. For being certified acc. to OHSAS 18001, anorganization will have to fulfil the following criteria :

    elaborating an OH&S policy

making a risk analysis, planning, establishing objectives and targetsand creating a programme for reducing the number and impacts ofaccidents at work
