ISO 45001 Update - Tony Cunningham (Managing Director)
ISO 45001 is a new standard under development to address Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems requirements.
Discussions of working groups within TechnicalCommittee 283, who are tasked with development of the standard, have led to the unusual decision to publish a second draft, DIS2, that addresses many of theapproximately 3000 comments received regarding clauses 4 to 10 of the ISO/DIS 45001 standard.
From feedback, it appears that the next meeting to further develop the standard will be held this month in Vienna, Austria. In terms of the potential timeline for the publication of ISO 45001, the consequence of current circumstances is such that the deadline for completion of the project is 25th October 2017.
To provide some insight to the plan going forward,Working Group 1 meets this month and should complete its review of comments by March 2017.Editing and preparation of the DIS2 would thenpotentially be completed April/May 2017.
June/July should see the release of DIS2 for translation in preparation for a ballot during September.
If the ballot shows DIS2 approval there are two possible paths that may be followed:
• If the DIS2 only receives a limited number of comments, it could be decided that the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) stage is avoided and any comments received are dealt with by the end of September. Publication could feasibly be achieved within the October/November timeframe. • If the FDIS stage is considered to be necessary, publication is more likely to be no earlier than the end of the first quarter of 2018.
