E-Prime consists of a paraphrase in which we have endeavored to replace all “to be” verbs (is,

are, were, was, etc.) with concrete active verbs, eliminating the “is of identity” (instead of “John

is a teacher” we use “John teaches”), the “is of predication” (instead of “The apple is sweet” we

use “The apple tastes sweet”),as well as the passive voice and phantom subjects (instead of

“Blessed is the man” we use “God blesses the man”). By performing these linguistic procedures,

we have hoped to create a crisp, direct, and sparkling document.

Pronunciation Guide and Flashpoints for English Speakers

The International Phonetic Alphabet was launched in 1888 in England by Henry Sweet and

Elmer Wiggins, founders of the International Phonetic Association. The International Phonetic

Alphabet is an alphabetic system of notation based primarily on the Latin alphabet with borrowings if the Latin alphabet does not contain the sound. The beauty of the IPA is that it is

100% phonetic, while the English alphabet (though derived from the Latin alphabet) is only 60%

phonetic, making pronunciation chancy. The best transliteration schemes are also hit and miss.

Using the pronunciation, one symbol represents one sound. The consonants are the most stable

elements of the language, but the violent vowels and the diabolical diphthongs will cause trouble

continually. Consequently, here are the potential flashpoints that may up-end English speakers as

they try to negotiate the pronunciation of the Interlinear Greek and Hebrew texts.

5Where will you find yourself stricken again, as you continue in your rebellion? The whole head has become sick and the whole heart has become faint.

God Will Remove the Leaders

1For behold, the Lord GOD of hosts intends to remove from Jerusalem and Jubah both supply andsupport, the whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water;

2 The mighty man and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder,

3The captain of fifty and the honorable man, the counselor and the expert artisan, and the skillful

6When a man lays hold of his brother in his father's house, saying, "You have a cloak, you shall serveas our ruler, and these ruins will fall under your charge,"

7He will protest on that day, saying, "I will not heal you, for in my house I can find neither bread nor

cloak; You should not appoint me ruler of the people."

6"Let us go up against Judah and terrorize it, and make for ourselves a breach in its walls and set up the

13Then he said, "Listen now, O house of David! Do you consider it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well?

And he said Hear you now O house of David [Is it] a small thing for you to weary

14"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will conceive and bear a son, andshe will call His name Immanuel.

20In that day the Lord will shave with a razor, hired from regions beyond the Euphrates (namely, withthe king of Assyria), the head and the hair of the legs; and it will also remove the beard.

21 Now in that day a man may keep alive a heifer and a pair of sheep;

22and because of the abundance of the milk produced he will eat curds, for everyone that is left withinthe land will eat curds and honey.

And it shall come to pass of the abundance [that] they shall give of milk he shall eat

butter and honey eat all that is left in the land.

23And it will come about in that day, that every place where there used to grow a thousand vines,valued at a thousand shekels of silver, will become briars and thorns.

And it shall come to pass day in that shall be every [that] place where there were

24People will come there with bows and arrows because all the land will grow briars and thorns.

25As for all the hills which people used to cultivate with the hoe, you will not go there for fear of briarsand thorns; but they will become a place for pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.

6"Inasmuch as these people have rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoice in Rezin andthe son of Remaliah;

ja-an ki ma-as ha-am hazɛ et me hʃilo-aç haholəçim lə-atForasmuch for refuses people at this the waters of Shiloah that go softly

and rejoice Rezin and son of Remaliah.

7"Now therefore, behold, the Lord will soon bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the

Euphrates, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; And it will rise up over all its channels andgo over all its banks.

8"Then it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through, It will reach even to theneck; And the spread of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

9"Become broken, O peoples, and become shattered; And give ear, all remote places of the earth. Girdyourselves, yet become shattered; Gird yourselves, yet become shattered.

10"Devise a plan, but it will become thwarted; State a proposal, but it will not stand, for God stays with

14"Then He shall become a sanctuary; But to both the houses of Israel, a stone to strike and a rock tostumble over, and a snare and a trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

And he shall be but a sanctuary for a stone of stumbling for a rock to stumble to both

20To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it has happened becausethey have no dawn.

21They will pass through the land hard-pressed and famished, and it will turn out that when theyhunger, they will feel enraged and curse their king and their God as they face upward.

6For a child will become born to us, a son we will receive; And the government will rest on Hisshoulders; And His name we will call Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince

of Peace.

7There will come no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David andover his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and

8The Lord sends a message against Jacob, and it falls on Israel.

9And all the people know it, namely, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, asserting in pride and inarrogance of heart:

10"The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with smooth stones; The sycamores have becomecut down, but we will replace them with cedars."

The bricks are fallen down but with cut stones we will build The sycamores

11Therefore the LORD raises against them adversaries from Rezin and spurs their enemies on,

12The Arameans on the east and the Philistines on the west; And they devour Israel with gaping jaws Inspite of all this, His anger does not turn away and His hand still stretches out.

14So the LORD cuts off head and tail from Israel, Both palm branch and bulrush in a single day.

15The head we regard as the elder and honorable man, and the prophet who teaches falsehood we willregard as the tail.
