Arlanda Express

A rail link between Stockholm Central Station and Arlanda Airport was an old idea. During 1990s, it had become increasingly evident that the number of air travellers would be dramatically rising. Ad-ditionally there were increasingly stringent demands for lessening traffic on the roads to the airport by building a

rail link. These demands were due to an emissions ceiling regulating the amount of environmentally harmful pollut-ants that could be released into the athmosphere. To build a third runway at the airport and still comply with the demands, a new alternative was necessary for travel-ling to and from the airport.

Going global overnightspeed-alliance®

The distribution solution for railway companies

Hahn Air Systems GmbHHahn Air Systems GmbH An der Trift 65 63303 Dreieich, Germany E-mail: [email protected] www.hahnair.com

speed-alliance®, created by Hahn Air Systems, is a solution covering all tasks and processes of indirect distribution from publishing schedules in GDS to eticketing and revenue settlement. Moreover, travel agents are enabled to combine train routes with flights, providing seamless intermodal sales. As a sister company and customer of Hahn Air, Hahn Air Systems has access to all HR interline e-ticketing partners, enabling railway companies to partner with more than 260 airlines. As part of the global expansion, intermodal solution can be upgraded to interlining, providing seamless travel.

Today railway companies face two major distribution challenges: Selling truly globally and collaborating with airlines easily. Online sales may help in reaching more distant markets, however, global distribution and joint sales with airlines require disproportionate efforts to adjust existing railway reservation systems, which were designed for core sales in local markets.

speed-alliance® is a unique distribution solution for railways to go global overnight. It simply connects the existing distribution infra-structure via the IATA designator 5W and makes routes available to 91,000 travel agents, using major Global Distribution Systems (GDS) in 190 markets – just like an airline. With speed-alliance® and through the GDS, railway companies get access to travel agencies worldwide, including those of the local market. While supply creates demand, the portion of corporate travellers and foreign customers being less price sensitive, will increase.

speed-alliance® adapts to the distribution environment of the railway company and links it to the global distribution world, following its standard processes: GDS display – route availabilities are displayed under 5W code

equal to airlines in the GDS Booking – travel agent is enabled to make a reservation of the

route like of an airline e-ticketing – 5W train routes will be issued exclusively on HR-169

ticket stock Boarding Pass – Hahn Air Systems‘ DCS creates a railway PDF

document including barcode functionality The PDF Boarding Pass is given at disposal to the user

(e-mail, website, local vending machine)

speed-alliance® provides a vast range of business opportunities, such as: Routes can be sold globally in airline GDSs and thus easily access

distant travel agents Intermodal connections with more than 260 airline partners is

part of the speed-alliance® global distribution package Intermodality can be upgraded to interlining providing seamless

travel Railway companies receive preferred access to corporate travel

agencies, online travel portals and travel consolidators to accele rate the sales potential speed-alliance® brings railway companies incremental revenue

and an increased portion of multinational travellers
