Background

Forming technology forms an integral part of manufacturing in many industries and contributes in the development of many new processing technologies, processing methods, machineries, tools and solutions, to design and fabricate end products/finished goods.

To address the latest trends, developments and research, in Forming Technology, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA) is organizing a one day “International Seminar on Forming Technology”, on 18 January 2012 in Bangalore, coinciding with IMTEXFORMING 2012 exhibition. The seminar will focus on various processes and technologies Vis-à-vis ; Metal Forming, Forging & Forming Technologies and Emerging Trends, and will bring together the fraternity of forming technology on a common platform to discuss related issues.

Who should attend ?Users and manufacturers of forming technology equipment from the automotive, white goods, consumer durables, strategic and other industries.

CEO's, top management, designers, engineering and production personnel, R&D specialists and academia associated with the forming industry.

Speakers are drawn from renowned National and International companies and research institutes like Fraunhofer Institute, Trumpf, Schuler, EMAG, Leifeld, Lasco, Siemens, Maruti Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, Electropneumatics and so on, who will share their expertise and latest developments in the field of forming technology.(Please refer to the detailed program schedule overleaf)

Speakers

The unique cycle of demand and supply of technology driven products brings forth the pioneering efforts of market leaders who believe in technology led competitiveness. The B2B session will provide an opportunity for users and providers of technology, machinery and processes to meet in an informal setting where they can discuss applications, commercial issues, joint ventures, technology transfers, collaborations etc.

Forging presses with Servo Direct technology,

This presentation emphasizes the use of servo technology in mechanical presses and predicts its increased use in future.

This presentation discusses the case for assembled camshaft which results in 45% weight reduction. The use of different materials for Cam lobes and small re-entrant geometries and specialized heat shrinking and joining process as a step in the right direction.

This presentation addresses the process of converting a low tensile strength steel into very high strength steel by forming the metal while its very hot and then quenching it in the die itself (Hot Forming) and covers hot forming technology with details of process, equipment, tools, blanks etc.

This case study presentation pertains to galling, sheet metal forming dies and panels and optimizing the input blank size and material grade rationalizing with effective lubrication that can solve problems w.r.t scoring, galling and wrinkles.

This presentation covers the use of advance CAE techniques to simulate panel behavior using Autoform & Pan stamp software. As a result counter measures can be taken before the tool reaches manufacturing stage, to avoid wrinkles & high tensile strains, folding and severity of shock lines.

Keynote session : Overview and latest developments

This presentation addresses the options that are available to companies in the automotive industries, the OEMs and, in particular, supplier companies for bringing down costs as well as minimising their consumption of resources and reducing emissions through more efficient technologies and production systems. The presentation will discuss strategic approaches to meet these future challenges, especially in the field of forming technologies.

This presentation summarizes the techniques and the state- of-art developments made with respect to the different stages along metal forming processes, considering stress and defect condition or in other words materials characterization. This will give an overview on those developments and the resulting applications and will comment on the limitations of the techniques and systems applied.

The presentation will focus on innovations which will change the way in which laser-cutting is used today. New pathbreaking techniques and insights into the advanced world of laser cutting would be the main focus area. The presentation intends to update users about the importance of technical features on laser-cutting machines now and in the future and will also point out their impact on the applications and cost economics.

Servo-drive, or free-motion, presses have certain characteristics that can reduce the number of forming operations required, improve tool life, reduce springback, modify stroke position and length, and increase part accuracy. This presentation discusses the use of Servo motor in place of main motor, fly wheel and clutch in mechanical presses.

While the participants come to attend this seminar on 18th January 2012 it is a good opportunity to visit IMTEXFORMING 2012 exhibition scheduled at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) from 19-24 January 2012 and witness the latest forming technologies in action. IMTEXFORMING 2012 showcases the latest equipment and technologies from most reputed companies across the globe.
