Throughout the history, and mostly in recent years, natural stone has been the first choice for architects and engineers in building construction. Although very hard to produce, stone is always preferred due to its strong and durable material. Natural stone has a very long life span, requires very little maintenance and provides good insulation and ideal protection against climatic conditions.

Natural stones can be found in any color imaginable. The variety of color and texture of the natural stone is unlimited. Hence it is regarded as an ideal building material for exteriors as well as interiors.

The most common types of stone are:

Stone Design

Application of Natural stone on projects requires a team of

specialized architects and civil engineers. We at HAZ

INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY LTD have formed

highly qualified technical staff to provide this service.

Architectural drawings are used to design the natural stone

installation for the internal and external walls of the building.

Suitable thickness and sizes of panels are determined according

to the specifications of the project.

After Natural Stone design has been made, details of fixing

systems for the installation of the panels are prepared. In this

process, the points on walls for anchoring and the drilled holes

on the panels are determined.

Shop drawings are prepared showing every detail of the natural

stone installation area in order to organize the installation

works.

3.5. DESIGN

SERVICES

Shop Drawings

Preparation of shop drawings is the key issue for natural

stonework regarding the architectural view / beauty of building,

finding out optimum dimension of stone panels and cost saving

on material. This requires a team of specialized architects and

software programs.

HAZ INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY LTD has all

the required resources and long years of experience to provide

this service to clients. Our design team is equipped with

advanced software programs, which are specially designed for

preparation of shop drawings, and cutting lists.

Our design office always gets feedback from job sites to eliminate

problems that installation teams may face and to find out the

easy and correct solutions.

Cutting Lists

The correct dimensions and quantities of panels required for a

project are necessary to execute a successful job. Types,

dimensions and quantities of natural stone panels are derived

from the shop drawings using special software and are listed to

the manufacturer for production order.

The list consists of a code system for the panels, which enables

easy follow up for the logistics.

Each and every type of stone is drawn according to the

dimensions and the drilling locations are marked. These

drawings are sent to the manufacturer for production of slabs.

Fixing System Design

Fixing System design is made to determine the most secure and

economic installation for natural stone panels. Structural

calculations are prepared according to the criteria of the project.

We provide this service to our clients and prepare the

documentation for the approval of the system.

Our 35 years of experience and know how, creates quality

design and production of fixing system elements.

Worldwide accepted standards are implemented both for the

design and production of fixing systems. BS, DIN and ASTM

standards are the regular methods used in design and

production.

COMPANY PROFILE

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – P.O Box 54904 Jeddah 21524 – Tel: 284 777 – Fax: 663 3072 – C.R.: 11299 – J.C.C.I. Reg. No. 8332

HAZ INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY LTD uses the

latest technology in natural stone installation. The uses of

mechanical fixing systems results in safe and secure installation

of natural stone façade.

The term "ventilated façade" is used for the latest technology in

natural stone installation. Other terms such as mechanical fixing,

anchoring systems and fixing systems are also used. Stone slabs

are independently fixed to the backing wall with a cavity

between the wall and the panel. This allows the replacement and

repair of any slab without damaging the rest of the façade. The

most important effect of this system is not only the security.

With this system, there is space between the wall and the stone

causing air ventilation, which creates a natural isolation for the

building. Air circulation through the cavity and open joints keeps

the natural stone panel's dry and clean providing natural

maintenance for the long durability of the façade.

Natural Stones panels are supported with stainless steel fixings

in vertical or horizontal joints, depending on the location of the

slab on the façade. The fixings enable the three dimensional

adjustability, which provide 20 mm tolerance. This is normally

adequate even if normal construction tolerances of the concrete

frame are exceeded. Several types of tested anchors are

available, such as Z anchors, body anchors, mortar anchors etc.

The main purpose of these anchors is to transfer the dead load

of the panels to the building.

There are many types of fixing systems all used for the special

circumstances and the overall technical specifications of the

project. Fixing systems differ according to the dead load, size of

projection, type of wall height of building, wind load, seismic

load and the nature of the installation.

There is Direct Fixing to Concrete walls and indirect fixing to sub

channel systems. Sub channels are used either when the

projection sizes are large or the walls are brick or YTONG where

bolts cannot be used.

3.6. FIXING

SYSTEMS

COMPANY PROFILE

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – P.O Box 54904 Jeddah 21524 – Tel: 284 777 – Fax: 663 3072 – C.R.: 11299 – J.C.C.I. Reg. No. 8332

We take into consideration every possible aspect of the building

and the installation process to formulate the most suitable fixing

systems for the projects requirement.

Upon completion of the stone installation, we prepare built

drawings and submit maintenance manual to the client. The

advantage of the system can be summarized as follows:

1. Fixings are manufactured to known and tested design criteria.

2. Frames, Fixings and Bolts are all corrosion resistant Stainless

Steel.

3. No bridging of cavity can occur as brackets do not transport

moisture. An open cavity is kept which allows free ventilation.

4. The waterproof barrier is at the concrete face and this

continues into the window without interruption.

5. Joints between stones can be maintained at a uniform size.

6. Thermal and substrate movements are accommodated into

the joint.

7. The risk of progressive collapse is eliminated.

8. Individual stones can be replaced.

9. The Fixing System greatly reduces damage to the cavity

insulation and cold reduces bridging.

10. Slabs are supported independently.

Natural stone is chosen as buildings cladding material because

of its beauty, low maintenance and resistance to the effects of

weather.

However, good judgment must be exercised in the choice of the

particular stone, the method of attachment, and the installation

procedure in order to benefit from a properly executed stone

cladding. Installation design and techniques that fail to

recognize the capabilities and limitations of the stone it-self and

that does not accommodate the forces at work on the stone, can

result in the failure of this cladding material to function

properly.

HAZ INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY LTD has

been implementing up-to-date installation technology in the

market since 1980 s, and follows up the improvements and

developments in the industry.

General:

A schedule of work, where Shop Drawings, Material Purchase

Order/Deliveries and Programs for installation, are usually

prepared and submitted for review prior to the commencement

of work at site.

The schedule of work will also show the installation duration for

every area separately including the necessary main power

required on site. This schedule of work for Stone Cladding and

Paving follows the dates and sequence of work mentioned in the

schedule of work for the total project. Sufficient time for

approval should be allowed for purchase orders and deliveries.

Quality Control Scheme is planned and carried out throughout

the job to ensure the quality of the finished product. It will be

our responsibility along with the subcontractors to ensure that

at every phase of the work:

a) sufficient resources and material are available.

b) The quality of the material is not less than specified.

c) Slabs are installed securely and properly as stated in the

specifications.

COMPANY PROFILE

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – P.O Box 54904 Jeddah 21524 – Tel: 284 777 – Fax: 663 3072 – C.R.: 11299 – J.C.C.I. Reg. No. 8332

Safety Plan will also be adopted in accordance with the General

Requirements and Specifications. A safety officer is always

appointed be present on site at all times to inspect the safety

aspects regularly.

Project Manager (PM) on site will be fully responsible in the

implementation of the above, and will employ the staff required to

perform the work. The PM will follow the Schedule of Work for

Submittal, Purchase Order and Deliveries closely, not to hinder the

work on site. The PM on site will also hold weekly co-ordination

meetings with the Main PM and prepare a report on the work

progress.

Schedule of Work:

Prior to commencement of work, a schedule of work for Cladding

and Paving will be prepared. The Schedule of Work for the project

will be studied thoroughly and the work schedule will be prepared

accordingly. The work schedule for structural, curtain walls and

aluminum sub-frames will be checked and the sequence of jobs for

places where different trades meet will be defined clearly. Our

office will co-ordinate with related trades for the design of

connection details and will submit the detailed drawings for

approval. The Schedule of Work will then be composed under three

main headings;

A) Preparatory Work:

Built Dimensions from site: Built dimensions from the site will

be measured and will be basis to shop drawings. Levels will be co-

ordinated with the site management to mark the start and finish

levels on the evaluations. The measurements will then be conveyed

to design preparation of shop drawings.

Actual Site Conditions: A co-ordination meeting, with the PM

will be held on site in order to be familiar with the actual site

conditions to determine the locations of workshop, stockyard and

warehouses.
