About GUILFORD

STUDENTS/FACULTY

Guilford activities: President of Student Community Senate, Inter-ClubCouncil, Judicial Board

Why Guilford: “What drew me to Guilford is its distinguished commit-ment to academic excellence, social responsibility and the core values of community, diversity, equality, excel-lence, integrity, justice, and stewardship. At Guilford, the approach to solving problems with principles and integrity transforms our core values into action.”

Career preparation: “Guilford Col-lege allowed me to incorporate di!erentexperiences and opportunities such as internships, study abroad, and community service. For example, during my intern-ship with the Carter Center in Palestine, I served as the Assistant to the Project Coordinator for the visit of the elders, a group of Independent Global Leaders, who were to visit both the Palestinian territories and Israel.”

After Guilford: “I was awarded a Gradu-ate Assistantship position to obtain an M.ED. in Student Personnel Administra-tion in Higher Education and I will also be pursuing a second degree in Non-pro"t Management. I strive to build on my past leadership experiences and work with education and policy-makers in Palestine, Israel, and international organizations.”

At Guilford, learning takes place in small classes, with students participating

in lively classroom discussions. You’ll be expected to speak up and express

your opinion. Students are encouraged to explore their passions and gain

practical experience through research, internships, community engagement

and study abroad.

Why Guilford: “#e golf coach at Guil-ford College called me at home in India. I heard from a lot of other schools, but no one else gave me that kind of attention. Guilford was small, it was personal, and it was always helpful. Where else can you interact so often and easily with a college’s president and vice presidents?”

Career preparation: “Assimilation is very important for any "eld of endeavor, and that means an ability to communicate. At Guilford, the students are required to speak in class. #at has proven invalu-able. I’d say the most important things that Guilford taught me were how to work

hard, how to write, and how to communi-cate clearly and e!ectively.”

Guilford faculty: “I had great professors and three of them in particular gave to me generously — I spent massive amounts of time in their o$ces. #eir help continues to shape my life and career.”

After Guilford: “I attended #e Univer-sity of Chicago Booth School of Business and then worked at Morgan Stanley and for Barclays Capital in New York, before taking my current job as a research analyst for Fidelity Investments in Boston.”

Why Guilford: “I came all the way from Ethiopia and felt comfortable at Guilford. People are very supportive and the educa-tion is amazing. Guilford exposed me to di!erent ideas, people, and perspectives — and brought out the best in me.”

Career preparation: “My professors helped me choose internships. During the summer after my junior year, I collaborat-ed on professional research at the Universi-ty of Michigan. #at experience, combined with excellent letters of recommendation from my Guilford professors, made me a strong candidate when I applied to gradu-ate schools.”

After Guilford: “I’m currently a Ph.D. candidate in Pharmacology at the Univer-sity of Pennsylvania, which has one of the most advanced programs for pharmacol-ogy graduate study in the world. I applied to graduate schools at Duke, Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt and the Mayo Clinic. And I was accepted by all of them.”
