A hydrostatic levelling cell system allows for accurate real-time measurement of structures for vertical movement, be it either settlement or heave.Typical applications include monitoring of buildings, excavations, railways, bridges and tunnels. This system is adapted to an environment where conventional survey techniques would not be possible.

Benefits of the system are the high accuracy, the ability to completely monitor structures on all sides with one system, and low maintenance. We can also utilise a tiltmeter system in combination to provide a complete settlement and tilt package for structural monitoring purposes.

We are skilled in the effective design, installation, commissioning and long-term maintenance of this monitoring system.

The HLC system can work in a broad range of temperatures, with a rapid system for acquisition, archiving and visualisation of data. This makes it an essential system for controlling risk-critical events such as compensation grouting and tunnelling.

Monitoring requires a powerful means of visualisation that can be adapted to suit a client’s needs.

GEO-Instruments recognises this and by utilising our years of experience has developed QuickView, a web-based monitoring platform that was built in-house, to provide our clients with a full site overview that can be incorporated in a BIM model either by hyperlink or built-in dashboard. We can also import the Revit model in 3D and allow a full site view for the client.

QuickView is inclusive of a variety of geotechnical and structural instrumentation along with geodetic and manual surveying. The instrumentation points can be added by the user or by our engineers. The aim of the software is to allow full flexibility to add in any other form of measurement on site. QuickView also shows data from noise, vibration, dust, wind speed and direction.

The ability to select multiple different sensor types and show them on one graph is time saving and informative to the end user. QuickView also allows the user to add in pile/demolition/construction data in 2D or 3D and adjust this data as the work is being carried out on site.

The platform allows the client to review historical data for the project and also to update the journal to keep accurate records of key events through the site works. In addition to this, we also provide sophisticated alarm systems via the trigger level system defined on site.

QuickView is intuitive and training provides a high level of end user familiarity to be able to analyse, report and discuss monitoring results.

Another software solution that can be provided by GEO-Instruments is gtcVisual® which is the first module in a series available for the construction professional. Modules that can be added to gtcVisual® include GroutControl®, JetGrout, and ATDS®.

gtcVisual® provides a GIS view to the complete project, which can be scaled down to view at a particular locations.

gtcVisual® can be viewed in playback mode set from key dates inputted by the user. This is a facility that users viewing the interaction between site activities and instrumentation find essential. The monitoring data can also be interpreted using graph and timeline functions.

GEO-Instruments uses the latest technology for geodetic measurements. We use automated total stations as a single setup or as a larger network to monitor building structures, railways or excavations. Our trained surveyors undertake manual monitoring using the latest models of total stations and digital levels and also conduct track trolleys to measure track geometry.

Automated and Manual Monitoring Surveys

Survey data can be imported to our databases from all types of instruments. The data can be then visualized in various graphical and tabular ways to provide the flexibility valued by our clients.

Geo-Instruments offer full supply, installation and maintenance survey packages as our managers and engineers are trained geodetic professionals.

GEO-Instruments install all types of geotechnical instrumentation. Our engineers provide the method statements, risk assessments and on-site supervision for the installation. We use accredited drilling companies, where applicable, for groundworks and our own installers for in ground and structural installations.

GEO-Instruments source, supply and install the following:

• Inclinometers (Manual, Mems IPI and Shape Array)

• Single and Multi-Point Piezometers

• Multipoint Auto Extensometers

• Deep Datums

• Fibre Optic Piezometers and Strain Gauges

• In Pile and Diaphragm Wall IPIs and Shape Arrays

• Prop Strain Gauges

• Crack meters

• Tiltmeters (Uniaxial, Biaxial and Triaxial)

Geotechnical instrumentation benefits all construction phases by determining initial site conditions and confirming laboratory testing results. It is used during construction to enable the site team to retain construction control, enhancing relations with stakeholders and the opportunity to provide value engineering. The long-term performance of the ground and structure can also be monitored and evaluated post construction. The use of instrumentation provides knowledge to designers to enable more efficient designs and for engineers to provide efficient construction methods.

Vibration, Noise and Dust Monitoring

Shape Array

GEO-Instruments is pleased to provide the Sigicom INFRA monitoring package. A complete plug and play measurement system – from sensors to web presentation and QuickView or gtcVisual reporting.

The INFRA system makes it easy to conduct advanced measurements in the field, with little or no human interaction. A variety of

GEO-Instruments use the Shape Accel Array manufactured by Measurand for accurately monitoring retaining walls, large slab movements, tunnel and sewer deformation and drilling inclination monitoring. The Shape Array can also be used for vibration monitoring. Shape arrays are a string of rigid segments separated

by joints that can move in any direction but cannot twist.

MEMS gravity sensors measure tilt in two directions. Processors transform the position (e.g. X,Y & Z) of each sensor to produce shape and change of shape. The SAA data can be used directly in the QuickView monitoring platform.

environmentally sensitive parameters can be measured, such as vibration, sound and dust.

The data is instantly uploaded to a cloud base, making viewing and reporting easy and relevant.

Data can be integrated into many of our monitoring software formats. GEO-Instruments engineers install and commission the site equipment and provide training on the reporting protocol. All European standards can be used.

Fibre Optic Monitoring

Wireless Tilt Nodes

Fibre optic technology is an innovative method of measuring strain within structures and geotechnical processes. GEO-Instruments uses Fibre Bragg technology to provide bespoke monitoring solutions. GEO-Instruments partner with Sylex to provide a complete system of design and monitoring solutions. The advantages of using fibre optics, especially for tunnel and sewer monitoring is that it is an intrinsically safe, Atex rated method of measurement and will read micro strain directly and in real time. The fibre optic unit has a high lifetime when in situ and requires no individual calibration.

Measurement is based on light and therefore long distances of sensors can be installed. Fibre optics have fine measurement accuracy and the data is viewable through our monitoring databases. Fibre optics have been used to measure pipelines, props, tunnels, sewers, bridge stays, bridge decks, water levels, ground extensions, embankment strain, railway beds and roads.

GEO-Instruments provide their clients with a one-stop solution to their monitoring requirements. The wireless flatmesh tilt meter design and output is a perfect solution for tunnel deformation monitoring and track twist and cant calculations.
