ATTENDANCE
Regular daily attendance at school is important for your child’s
learning. Absences are regularly monitored by the school and by
the Department of Education Home School Liaison officers.
Application must be made to the office for students who will be
taking long periods of leave such as family holiday, family business,
bereavement or other reasons during school terms. If your child is
absent for a holiday, they will be marked as being on leave and it is
reflected in their absence totals. Any questions may be directed to
the principal or to Mr McMasters.
VALUABLE ITEMS AT SCHOOL
Please do NOT send valuable items to school. Valuable items are
often cherished by a student, and despite best endeavours, items
may go missing or be damaged. It is best not to send them as the
school cannot take responsibility for them.
MOBILE PHONES
Students should refrain from bringing mobile phones to school as
their safety cannot be guaranteed and any calls made cannot be
monitored. If you require your child to have a mobile phone at
school, a letter must be sent to the teacher explaining the need for
the mobile phone. The phone is to be handed in to the teacher
upon arrival at school so that it can be locked away. At the end of
the day it may be collected from the teacher by the student.
Students will not be permitted to take calls during school hours.
Should you need to contact your child urgently, please ring the
office and the message will be passed on.
Learning Snapshot
Focus on Mathematics
Students have been learning a range of
new skills and information during
Mathematics lessons.
In K-6 students participate in lessons that
cover the content strands of number &
algebra, measurement & geometry and statistics & probability.
Lessons focus on the use of concrete materials to develop student
understanding of concepts, as well as having a problem solving
approach which develops student’s ability to talk about how they
solve mathematical questions.
Kindergarten Classes have been learning the numbers 1
to 5 through counting songs and numeral
recognition activities. We have also been
learning the days of the week and soon we
are launching into 2D shapes.
Kindergarten use a lot of objects and
singing games to learn about numbers and
shapes. Some songs we are listed below.
Stage 1 Classes have been exploring the concepts
of 3D shapes. We have learned the
language to describe them and examined
objects in our classrooms to determine their
shape. We have also explored the concepts
of length and area, comparing objects
around our classrooms using a variety of
different informal units such as cards and
our hands.
Stage 2 Classes have been naming and classifying
2 dimensional shapes and using protractors
to measure angles.
Stage 3 Classes have been manipulating,
classifying and drawing two-dimensional
shapes such as different types of triangles
and quadrilaterals such as squares,
rectangles and parallelograms. We have
also been constructing angles using
protractors and some classes have looked
at angles in relation to the Olympics!

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK
As part of the child protection policy, all volunteers who work within
the school are required to complete a ‘Working With Children
Check Form’ + 100pt ID check. This is a requirement for any
person who has direct contact with students. At this school it
includes scripture teachers, canteen workers and any parent or
community member who assists a teacher in class, in school
activities, transporting students or on excursions. If you have not
completed a form, they are available at the office when you sign the
visitor’s book. Please ensure that you complete the form and that
together we ensure our children are safe and free from harm. If you
have previously completed a form it is valid for 5 years. Check with
the office if you are not sure your paperwork is up to date.
IMPORTANT LEGAL INFORMATION The Department of
Education recognises that some families will be subject to family
breakdown. In the absence of any notification to the contrary, it will
be assumed that both parents retain a shared and equal parental
responsibility for their children and have been involved in making
any decisions regarding their children’s education. This means that
the school will recognise that each parent has equal duties,
obligations, responsibilities and opportunities in relation to matters
involving the school. If any changes occur in your family
relationships which have the potential to impact on the relationship
between the school and your family, you are required to advise the
school immediately. This includes providing copies of any court
orders that may be obtained.
PSSA SPORT
Summer PSSA sport takes place on Fridays and will commence for
students in Years 3-6 on Friday 2nd March, weather permitting. In
the summer sport season, Lynwood Park students compete against
other local schools in the sports of cricket and softball. Our teachers
have been selecting students for our teams. As the number of
students who can compete is limited, not all students are successful
in gaining a place in a PSSA team. However, all Years 3-6 students
participate in sporting activities each Friday, whether they are in a
PSSA team or not. The Primary School Sports Association (PSSA)
and the school welcome parents to all games to support their
children and school.
The role of the spectator is to enhance the player’s enjoyment.
(R. Coggan, NSW Public Schools Sports Council)
Remember that students play organised sport for their own
enjoyment. They are not there to entertain you, and they are
NOT miniature professional athletes
Respect the officials’ decisions
Be on your best behaviour. Do not indulge in physical or verbal
abuse of players, coaches, officials or other spectators
Applaud good play by your own team and the opposing team
Show respect for your opponents. Without them there would
be no game
Never ridicule a player for making a mistake or losing a
competition
Do not encourage or condone the use of violence in any form
Encourage players always to play according to the rules
