Early adopters workshop 22-23 June 2010, Salzburg, AustriaThis
event is part of the validation phase of IKS where we invite up to
40 CMS providers/vendors to participate as early-adopters. The goal
is to bring together the first group of CMSvendors who will
evaluate the IKS Stack by integrating IKS components of their
choice intotheir CMS technology platform.
What is expected of the IKS early adopters?
This year, IKS will go fromrequirements specification
to design and
prototypes of the interac-tive knowledge stack. There will be
an"Alpha" version (available July - September 2010)
which will mainly be validated by the industrialpartners of
thecore consortium. (So the pricefor being a coreindustrial partner
in IKS is that they will be the "guinea pigs" forour first
at-tempts at enhancing CMS with semantic features!). Then there
will be a "Beta" Version (avail-able April-June 2011) and that
version is intended forour early adopters grant scheme. Thegrants
will be in the region of5000 to 7000 Euro. Here is how the IKS
Early Adopter Schemeworks:
We ask you to enter an evaluation contract which has three
elements:
(a) one of your technical staff will be attending a dedicated
workshop wherethe concepts and workings of the stack will be
explained - youreceive atravel and subsistence grant for this.
Workshops will beheld at differentlocations in Europe so that it
will be easy forparticipants to attend one ofthem.
(b) you will be using specific IKS components of your choice
(dependingonwhere your firm's technology needs are) and you will
integrate theminyour current CMS technology. You will receive a
development grantforthe integration effort and IKS will link to
your site if you canshow the useof an IKS component.
(c) we will conduct structured interviews or ask for a brief
evaluationreportthat will help us to develop the final version of
IKS whichwill also beopen source and which will also be open for
evaluation.You will receivethe full payment of the early adopters
grant once wehave received yourreport.
The grant scheme is offered to approximately 40 CMS firms (Open
Source-based CMS is nota pre-condition for participation) and
eachgrant is worth approximately 1 person month of ef-fort as
describedunder a), b) and c).We recognize that semantic technology
- while offering significantbenefits - is still a toughbeast to
tame and we recognize that smallfirms cannot normally afford to
spend the cost of adeveloper's monthjust on "trying it out". Here
you have the chance of getting at leastthis ini-tial hurdle paid
for, getting the technology explained beforeyou try it, and being
able to use itimmediately if it does work for you!
