Implementing This Release

This section contains any late-breaking information about how to install, upgrade, or administer Maximo Release 6.2.1 that is not in the documentation set. Because this Maximo release is a patch, this section also includes the installation instructions.

Installing Maximo 6.2.1

Maximo Release 6.2.1 is for existing customers who are currently running Maximo 6.2. In addition to support for DB2, Release 6.2.1 provides important updates for Maximo 6.2. These updates are program fixes to internally reported issues.

Use PowerUpdate™ to install Maximo 6.2.1. PowerUpdate (update.exe) becomes installed during the Maximo 6.2 installation. If you do not have a copy of update.exe in <Maximo>:\PowerUpdateClient, go to support.mro.com and download a copy.

To install 6.2, a prerequisite for 6.2.1, you must order the software media from the support Web site. See Product Update: Maximo Release 6.2 (Doc ID M05200) page and document for further ordering information. Before you apply the 6.2.1 update, review all Release 6.2 materials and considerations on this page.

CAUTION Back up your files. When you install Maximo 6.2.1, you overwrite files in the Maximo root directory, including any files that you have customized or modified. For information about how to use your backup files to recover these changes, see the IBM Maximo System Administrator’s Guide or Support Online at support.mro.com.

WARNING If you have received and installed any Maximo 6.2 hotfixes after January 9, 2007, do not install the Maximo 6.2.1 product update. Installing this update with hotfixes applied after January 9, 2007 can produce an unstable or unusable system. We advise users who have installed a hotfix after January 9, 2007 to wait for the next Maximo update.

NOTE The IBM Maximo for Utilities add-on will be available shortly after the release of the 6.2.1 update.

CAUTION If you install the IBM Maximo 6.2.1 product update and also have an Industry Solution add-on, install the update for each Industry Solution add-on. Previous releases of Industry Solution add-ons are not compatible with IBM Maximo Release 6.2.1. For information about how to install the update for your Industry Solution add-on, see the release notes for your add-on at support.mro.com.

Creating XML Files for Industry Solution Add-ons

If you have multiple Industry Solution add-ons installed, create additional .xml files to build and deploy your maximo.ear files.

To create additional XML files for Industry Solution add-ons, complete the following steps:

1 Create a directory, product, under the maximo\deployment directory on your application server. For example:

<Maximo>\deployment\product

2 For each Industry Solution add-on that you have installed, create a separate <productname>.xml file to deploy the .ear files. Save the new <productname>.xml files to the new maximo\deployment\product directory.

For more information about how to create the <productname>.xml files, see the following files in the <Maximo>\deployment directory:

buildmaximoear_readme.rtfproductexample.xml

Creating a Test Copy of your Production Database

Before you upgrade your Maximo software, create a test database from a copy of your production system.

Oracle® only When you import your Maximo schema, use the same tablespace name as your production tablespace name.

If possible, create your test database in its own instance of Oracle®. Doing so lets you start, stop, or shut down the database without interfering with other databases. For more information about how to create an instance and a test copy of your database, see your Oracle documentation.

The documentation set for this product currently does not contain the following installation and product information.

MEA for Oracle Applications 11i Installation Guide

If no patches exist for Release 6.2.1 of the IBM Maximo Enterprise Adapter for Oracle Applications 11i (MEA for Oracle), ignore all references to the MEA for Oracle patch release notes and related manual update procedures.

No patches exist if you see the message, “Your software is already up-to-date,” when you perform Step 11 of the “Installing the Oracle Adapter” procedure. If you see the message, ignore the “Performing Manual Updates” topics in Chapter 4, “Installing PL/SQL Objects to the Oracle Applications 11i Database” and Appendix E, “Integration with Oracle Project Accounting” of the MEA for Oracle Installation Guide.

You can obtain the most recent version of the patch release notes for the Maximo Enterprise Adapter for Oracle Applications 11i, Release 6.2.1, at support.mro.com.

Tabbed Browsing in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

Maximo 6.2.1 does not support the tabbed browsing feature of the Internet Explorer® 7 browser (IE7). Tabbed browsing lets you view multiple pages in one browser session. To use IBM Maximo with IE7, turn off the tabbed browsing feature. Instructions on how to turn off tabbed browsing are in Doc ID M05204 on Support Online at support.mro.com.

Multilanguage Environment In a multilanguage environment, some descriptions for Status fields appear in the base language, regardless of which other language that a person selects. To correct this issue, apply the all_syn.xml file to your multilanguage system after you install Maximo 6.2.1.

To apply the XML file to your system, run the all_syn.xml file. This file is in the <Maximo>/tools/maximo directory. If you run the file with the -e extension, Maximo updates all enabled languages in your system.

importlang -infile all_syn.xml -e

For example, your base language is English. You have four other languages enabled. When you run the importlang -infile all_syn.xml -e command, you update all enabled languages in one step.

Or, your base language is English. You have four other languages enabled. However, you want to update only two secondary languages (French and German). Run the all_syn.xml file with the -l <non-base language code> extension.

Where

<non-base language code>

is the two-letter language code for any non-base language that you want to update with translated value descriptions.

In the example, run the following statement:

importlang -infile all_syn.xml -l FR -l DE

Maximo uses the following language codes:

en = Englishzh = Simplified Chinesenl = Dutchfr = Frenchde = Germanit = Italianja = Japaneseko = Koreanpt = Portuguesees = Spanishsv = Swedish

NOTE When you install Maximo 6.2.1, you overwrite any customizations that you have made to descriptions in the SYNONYMDOMAIN table with standard Maximo descriptions.

Printing Detail Reports Perform this update only if you print Detail Reports from the IBM Maximo toolbar.

Maximo 6.2.1 changes how you use the Maximo toolbar to print detail reports. To print a detail report directly from the Maximo toolbar, first configure the Attached Documents application. If you do not configure Attached Documents, you cannot use the toolbar to print the report.

For information about how to configure the Attached Documents application, see the IBM Maximo System Administrator’s Guide.

Changes to Daylight Savings Time (DST) Mandated by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 Effect on Maximo Products

The United States changes its observance of Daylight Saving Time (DST) in 2007. In 2007, the DST start date is March 11. The DST stop date is November 4.

If you run IBM Maximo on the WebSphere Application Server, apply the appropriate FixPack for your version of WebSphere. If you run IBM Maximo on the BEA WebLogic Application Server, apply the appropriate update to the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

Product Issues

Product Issues

This section contains open issues that currently exist for this product release. For a list of fixed issues with this release, see Appendix C, “Maximo 6.2.1 Corrected Issues.”

Known Issues and Workarounds

This section (sorted in ascending order by issue number) describes possible unexpected behavior with this release and provides any known workaround for the issue.

Issue Description

06-21563 DB2 8.2.7 does not let you remove columns from a table even though Maximo supports the deletion of user-defined attributes. With the release of version 9 of DB2, Maximo can delete user-defined columns from a table.

06-21592 You create a View Select statement in Database Configuration that contains a user-defined attribute. If you later delete the attribute, also remove that attribute from the View Select statement. If you do not update the View Select statement after you delete a user-defined attribute, errors occur when you run the database configuration process. You can fix these errors only if you run update statements through the back end.

07-10652 When using a DB2 database, you can manage tablespaces with either the database or system.

If the system manages the tablespace, indexes cannot have different storage partitions: the indexes must match the storage partition of the object.

If the DB2 database manages the tablespace, indexes can have different storage partitions.

Both the database and system cannot manage the tablespaces. Choose for either the database or the system to manage the tablespaces.

If you use a tablespace that the system manages, when you run the maxinst utility, the -t and -s parameters must match. If these parameters do not match, an error occurs.
