IIA Toronto Chapter
From the president
Dear Members,
Through my volunteering journey with the IIA,
I have found my experience very rewarding and
have had the opportunity to meet and work with
amazing people. I am grateful for the opportunity
to continue to be involved in a leadership role
with the Toronto Chapter.
We live in interesting times as internal auditors …
Our success is dependent on stakeholders
recognizing the value we bring to an organization.
With the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence,
technological innovations, geopolitical and
macroeconomic pressures the profession’s needs
are changing! This change will redefine how we
deliver value, and will provide a lot of opportunity
for us to guide the organizations we support as
we provide our stakeholders a clear view on how
the organization is managing its risks.
According to the 2018 North American pulse of
Internal Audit survey, accounting and finance
remain the most recruited academic degree for
internal audit. However, IT related degrees such
as data science and information systems are now
a close second. In the future, internal auditors
will be from more and more non-traditional
backgrounds as demands for our profession
evolve.
I look forward to supporting and embracing this
journey with our members!
Over the past year we had more, well received
educational events than ever! This was on top of
a very successful one-day seminar in May, which
helped kick off the celebration of May’s Internal
Audit awareness month on the Future of Internal
Audit.
We had two full day sessions for the South Western
Ontario members and a very successful breakfast program
for the Public Sector. We look to continue to support
bringing great sessions to South Western Ontario and the
Public Sector.
Our CAE round tables hosted by PwC have provided an
opportunity for benchmarking, development and
networking.
Congratulations to Andrea Leon (Chair of the GTA
Education Committee) for winning the Volunteer Of The
Year Award.
Thank you to the sponsors who supported our chapter
throughout the year PwC, Deloitte, Protiviti, Wolters
Kluwer , Economical Select, KPMG, Crowe Horwath, EY,
MNP and Caseware.
Last but most important, I would like to thank all our
volunteers for your continued support and dedication to
our profession! We encourage that anyone interested in
volunteering to please reach out to, Chair of the Volunteer
Committee Sylvester Pih ([email protected]) or the
IIA chapter administrator Joan Rainville
I would like to thank our executive team, Alan Tsang
(Chapter Senior Vice President), Neil Power (Chapter Vice
President -Programs), Troy Purvis (Chapter Vice President
-Administration), Sohail Choksy (Chapter Treasurer), and
Marina Khan (Chapter Secretary) for all your support and
dedication to the Chapter.
Stay engaged. Stay connected.
