Admissions:While admission to the IHU is competitive, our admissions policy vigorously supports equal-
ity of opportunity. We are focused on building a student community which includes men and
women from different backgrounds, abilities, economic circumstances, perspectives, races,
religions and national origins.
When to apply:IHU operates on a rolling admissions basis. This means that candidates apply for, and are
admitted to our programmes all year round. We suggest, however, that you apply as early as
possible to ensure a quick response and place availability. We aim to provide decisions within
two weeks of receiving your complete application. Please ensure that you complete the ap-
plication form fully and submit all your supporting documents for us to make an informed
decision.
Entry Requirements:To consider your application* for the IHU Masters you need:
a good university degree (certified copy and transcript)
a good IELTS or TOEFL score or a Cert ificate of Proficiency for graduates from non-English-
speaking universities
two academic references (both referees should have direct knowledge of your suitability
for the specific Master programme)
A personal interview may be required.

Scholarships:Scholarships are available for exceptional candidates where financial need can be demon-
strated.
Our Facilities:IHU is situated in Thermi, a pleasant suburb of Thessaloniki. Specifically developed to fa-
cilitate modern learning, the university building is equipped with state of the art informa-
tion technology, like online databases and a sophisticated E-Learning platform, as well as an
excellent learning resource centre providing a comprehensive, up-to-date selection of books
and journals and an attractive area for study.
The campus is located conveniently close to Thessalonikis Makedonia Airport. Access to thecity centre is easy.

its own distinctive intellectual and artistic personality.
Named aer the sister of Alexander the Great, Thessaloniki was founded in 315 BC and since

Our identityThe International Hellenic University (IHU) is Greeces first state university where programmes are taught exclu-
sively in English.
With backing from the Greek State and the regional business community, the IHU aims to become one of Europes
key research institutions attracting leading academics and outstanding students from South East Europe (SEE) and
across the world.

The School of Humanities is launching the MA in Black Sea Cultural Studies, which is based on an interdisciplin-
ary approach to the study of the history and culture of the Black Sea region, an area of increasing geopolitical and
economic importance.
The Black Sea region was and continues to be one of the great international cultural gateways, something very
important for Europe as well as for Asia and the East. During the last decades, Research Institutions and University
Departments all over the world promote research programmes concentrated on this specific area, which has rich
scientific material to offer.
The Masters Programme MA in Black Sea Cultural Studies provides the student with an outstanding opportunity to
specialise in a research domain of great significance in our times. The ambitious aim of our distinguished scientists
is to offer compact, hands-on and thorough knowledge.

The School of Humanities
The programme will focus on two principal areas:
Archaeology and History
Politics and Economy
Our students (depending on the stream they choose) will be able to work in:
Educational and research institutes and academies all over the world dealing with the Black Sea region
Archaeological services of the Black Sea countries and Greece or foreign archaeological missions in tho
countries
Museums, galleries and other places of collection, study and exhibition of works of art, especially from th
region
The Diplomatic Corps or other state services
Businesses which operate or have interests in the Black Sea region
MA in Black Sea Cultural Studies
Programme Structure:
The programmes duration is three semesters, from which the first two are covered by the
courses and the third is dedicated to the Master dissertation. The courses are four core, thre
stream core and two stream elective (total nine courses).
** Some of the elective courses may not be offered in a particular year, depending entirely
on student demand.
The Timetable:
The course is a 12 month full-time programme of study.
