Founded in 2008, Innovation: Africa is a New York based 501 c3 non-profit organization that brings Israeli solar and agriculturaltechnologies to African villages. Our mission is to improve the lives of rural African people and, in doing so, to improve the image of Israel around the world.

Mobile penetration is outgrowing Africa’s energy grid, and this growing gap has driven demand for off-grid charging solutions.

THE COST: 10-15 CENTS PER CHARGE. THE CUSTOMERS: CELL PHONE OWNERS IN THE SURROUNDING VILLAGES. THE BUSINESS IS RUN BY STAFF MEMBERS AND LOCAL WOMEN’S GROUPS.

EACH OF OUR 82 PROJECTS HAS A BUSINESS: A SOLAR CELL PHONE CHARGING STATION.

Karnaf patented what might just be the simplest and most cost effective tool for theft prevention on the market. It's a small metal device that locks the panels to one another and the roof, making them nearly impossible to steal without heavy machinery unlikely to be found in our rural communities. We haven't had a single instance of theft since installing these locks. And the best part: each one is less than $20.
