What do you know about historical cities?

What do you think we can do in Diamantina?

Diamantina is a traditional city of Minas Gerais state, developed because of diamond exploration in the 18th century. The diamonds, found in the area when the colonizers were searching for gold, are the symbol of this city that is also famous for its ancient constructions and live culture.

In order to value the local culture and the tourism potential of Diamantina city, the community association Diamantina Sempre Viva created and developed the event “No Jeito de Ser de Seu Povo 2004” (Our People’s Way of Life 2004). The event promoted the cultural appreciation of the city, rescuing traditional popular manifestations and stimulating the local art craft, with the use of local resources as coconut shells and gold. The event also promoted local environmental conservation, stimulating the creation of ecotourism opportunities and carrying out environmental education. It contemplated people of all ages, entertaining and enchanting through different forms of cultural expressions as cinema, arts expositions, theater, music, gastronomy, religious celebrations, and handicrafts.

The efforts of the association Diamantina Sempre Viva resulted in the development of different local quality products of tourism interest: unique handicrafts of coconut and gold; “Cinema em Praça Pública” (Cinema in Public Square); “Tropeiragem”, which incentives handicraft production and gastronomy; “Lendas em Movimento” (Legends in Movement) for the appreciation of immaterial cultural heritage; “Serestar” for the appreciation of traditional music and musicians; “Caminho de Todos os Santos”, for the appreciation of religious traditions; “Missa Gregoriana” valuing traditional Gregorian songs; “Ecotourism” for the promotion of environmental education and creation of new ecotourism opportunities; “Banquete da Chica” to value the historic woman Chica da Silva, historic costumes and the regional gastronomy.

London lies on the river Thames and is the capital of the United Kingdom. With about 7

million inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in the world.

Lots of tourists visit London every year. There are plenty of museums, theatres and

interesting sights, for example the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Buckingham

Palace and the Houses of Parliament with their clock tower, Big Ben.

With the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives you can express that

something is better (comparative form) or best (superlative form).
