ssociation C hequamegon H umane A Inc. Keeping Animals Off the Streets Since 1980! www.CHAadopt.org Thank you! It’s been a good year for the Chequamegon Humane Association. With your support we were able to accommodate a record number of adoptions. We had adopted out more than 200 dogs and cats by mid-October. By year’s end CHA adopted a record number of dogs and cats—287!! Also, you made it possible for us to replace our minivan. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to everyone in the community. You were extremely generous, even in this tough economy, and you dropped off lots of good stuff to make the cats and dogs at the shelter very happy! This is the first year that we did not have to dip into our meager savings account. You were even willing to share your- selves by volunteering your time with CHA and by sharing your favorite new and old pet stories. It is with your support that the animals adopted from CHA go to loving forever homes are receiving better overall care. Thank you for your willingness to work with CHA and to recog- nize CHA as part of the com- munity. As more than 90 percent of our income comes from you, this is the communi- ty’s Chequamegon Humane Association—it is yours—we just operate it to the best of our ability. After all we do it because we all care about animals. What is life without another heartbeat close by, even if that heartbeat belongs to a furry compan- ion(s)? We are also actively pulling together our calendar of events. We hope you continue to have fun with us in the coming year at one or more of our events like the Pet Walk, the Bay Barbe- cue, and the FurBall. As always we are trying to offer new events and make some of the old ones more fun. We look forward to seeing and working with you again this year! You may have heard that people are getting together to form a dog park in Ashland. As it is now, the Ash-land Parks and Recreation, the Chequamegon Humane Associa-tion, and a group of committed citizens are working together to create a not-for-profit dog park.

It will be a place where dogs and their people can socialize and exercise. After much deliberation, the current location for the park is south of Hodgkin’s Park baseball fields between 11th Avenue East and 14th Avenue East and Pufall Drive, an almost five acre lot with open space to run (a portion that will be fenced) and a wooded area where trails will eventually be created.

This is a community undertaking; your input and

commitment is needed.

We’ll need people to help create it by building benches and a lean-to for shading, planting grass, and clearing trails. We’ll need people to help keep it clean. We’ll also need money to keep it going. We’ll try to recycle materials as much as possi-ble (for instance fencing that had been used in another Ashland Park

can be used here) but some materi-als will need to be purchased. People interested in volunteering or donating funds to make this dream a reality can contact APR (Ashland Parks and Recreation) @ 715-682-7059.

Visit www.ashlandparks.org for more information, and meeting notes or contact [email protected]
