Doing the Right Thing...Greg VonCannon, owner of the Rusty Wallace Lin-coln Mercury Mazda dealership, began his career in automotives as a salesperson. After several years in furniture manufacturing, a friend suggested that he give auto sales a try. Having no experience in sales, Greg might have been reluctant but knew he needed to leave behind the 4 a.m. wake-up calls of his previous career so he gave sales a try at Ron Hite Chevrolet.

In only a few short months Greg proved he had what it takes to make in the industry and was quickly swept away by Ray Huffaker, owner of the then Parkway Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC dealership, to work in the finance department. Over time, Greg worked his way up in the company, transitioning from Finance to General Sales Manager to Partner.

The company’s big opportunity came when, in 1991, a friend by the name of Jim Phillip’s introduced Ray and the Parkway team to NASCAR champion, Rusty Wallace. Rusty had been looking for a good company to partner with and was impressed with the dealership’s “Doing the Right Thing”

philosophy—a philosophy that has helped Greg succeed in life and business.

Today that partnership has grown to 3 Rusty Wal-lace dealerships in the Morristown area plus one in Newport and two in Knoxville with Greg earn-ing the reputation as one of the “most trusted” dealers in East Tennessee. And after 25 years in the business, he has also become one of the most recognized dealers in the area.

But Greg’s life hasn’t been all about business. Originally from Siler City, North Carolina, Greg attended North Carolina State University and went through their furniture engineering program. That internship led him to Morristown and a job at Forrest Products, but the reason he decided to stay, was meeting the love of his life, Pam Moore.

In 1980, Pam and Greg married and later raised two children: Lori and Lillie. Lori grew up, married Chris Cagle and in 2007 gave birth to twins: James and Anna Kate. Lillie, their younger daughter at-tends Middle Tennessee State where she excels as a marketing student and co-ed cheerleader.

While Greg loves his job, and feels great pride in knowing that his salespeople are extremely help-ful and knowledgeable—offering some of the best customer service in the industry—he will be the

first to tell you that it hasn’t always been easy but it has always been a blessing.

“Everything I have: my life, my family, my friends, my church, my home, and the success of my busi-ness are all blessings from God,” says Greg, “and the reason I feel the need to always try to do the right thing in life and in business.”

Over the years, I’ve tried to find some balance in my life, Greg says. The three big things in my life are my family, my business and my walk with the Lord. I’ve been really fortunate to be able to un-derstand that these three things don’t have to be separate. For example, our church, Heritage Fel-lowship, in Jefferson City has a vision for local and international missions. I have not been on any mis-sions trips but my pastor, Jim Price, has helped me see that I am on the mission field at my business and in the business community. My daughters have worked at the dealership and I feel like the people who work here are family, we have a great family atmosphere.

Rusty Wallace Lincoln Mercury Mazda is truly a trustworthy place to shop for both new and used vehicles. We have a great selection of new vehicles, ranging from luxury to sport/utility and a wide se-lection of pre-owned, reconditioned vehicles. I feel, says Greg, that one of the reasons we are

successful is that we have something for everyone. Lincoln offers top of the line luxury like Town Car and Navigator. Mercury has the Grand Marques and Milan while Mazda gives us sporty fun to drive cars and SUV’s and if you are looking for a pre-owned vehicle, we always stock some of the nic-est trucks, imports, vans and cars from Ford, Toy-ota, Chevy, Honda, Mazda, VW and more as well as high end BMW’s, Lexus, Mercedes and Infinity.

The other thing that has been really important to our success has been having good people. When you have the right kind of people that care about what they do, it makes my job so easy, says Greg.

I’ve always had good people around me to help me whether its at the dealership, good partners like Rusty Wallace and Ray Huffaker that gave me an opportunity to run this business, people who encourage me in my spiritual walk, or my wife and family that love and support me in the good times or the tough times.

Those are all people that I see doing the right things everyday. The people around you really make all the difference.

If you’re ready to shop for a new or used car and want to deal with people who like “doing the right thing” with no gimmicks and no games, then stop by Rusty Wallace Lincoln Mercury Mazda in Talbott today.

Dear God, please send me somebody who’ll care!

I’m tired of running, I’m sick with despair.

My body is aching, it’s so racked with pain.

And dear God I pray as I run in the rain,

that someone will love me and give me a home.

A warm cozy bed I can call my own.

My last owner neglected me and chased me away

to rummage in garbage and live as a stray.

But now, God, I’m tired and hungry and cold.

And I’m afraid that I’ll never grow old.

They’ve chased me with sticks and hit me with stones

while I run in the streets just looking for bones!

I’m not really bad, God, please help me if you can.

For I have just become a “VICTIM OF MAN”!

I’m wormy, Dear God, and I’m ridden with fleas

and all that I want is an owner to please!

If You find one for me, God, I’ll try to be good.

I won’t run away and I’ll do as I should.

I don’t think I’ll make it too long on my own,

cause I’m getting so weak and I’m so all alone.

Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry,

cause I’m so afraid, God, that I’m gonna die!

And I’ve got so much love and devotion to give,

that I should be given a new chance to live.

So, dear God, PLEASE, PLEASE answer my prayer

and send me somebody who WILL really care...

Anthropologist Margaret Mead said that we are more different from each other during the middle school years than at any other time of our lives. Numerous studies have shown that academic achievement seems to slow sometimes even regressing during the middle school years. While it may be true that the body and brain are undergoing radical changes, it is also true that the same teaching methods that worked so well for younger children simply aren’t as effective during this time of rapid physical and social growth. All Saints’ Episcopal School’s Renaissance Middle School is de-signed to give a rebirth to the excitement of learning. How do we do this? Our challenging curriculum is col-lege pre-preparatory, meaning that our graduates are prepared for advanced classes in high school that lead to admissions at top colleges. In addition to great near-by schools like Carson-Newman and UT, our gradu-ates have attended such schools as Stanford, Davidson, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, and Sewanee. We have a solid curriculum, advanced textbooks, and a highly energetic faculty. We also have an outdoor

classroom whose garden not only feeds the hungry, but that we use for extracting DNA in the lab! We have field studies that include camping at a gem mine, studying blind fish in Mammoth Cave, and attending cultural events like live theatre, and we tromp through the Florida Everglades and snorkel the coral reef in the Keys. We have clubs, sports teams, student government, and a serious honor code. That’s how we do it. It’s all about the excitement of the teachers, the use of essential questions, and the modality of recursive/hands-on instruction! And we do all this in a Christian environment to the greater glory of God. Let us tell you more about! Henry G. SelbyHeadmasterAll Saints’ Episcopal SchoolMorristown, TN 37813423.586.3280

High Integrity

Acupuncture is a safe and effective form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), dating back over thousands of years. Acu-puncture is a relatively painless, natural technique, consisting of the gentle inser-tion and stimulation of sterile, individu-ally packaged, disposable, small, hair-width needles placed at precise strategic points on the body.

Acupuncture has been found to be an ex-tremely beneficial treatment for a wide range of conditions such as pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, asthma, allergies, hy-pertension, digestive disorders, headaches, migraines, hormonal imbalances, weak im-mune systems, insomnia, and a host of other symptoms and conditions.

TCM is based on the belief that what happens to one part of the body affects ev-ery other part of the body. Every patient is an indi-vidual and individ-ual responses vary. Some people re-spond very quickly after one or two treatments, while others may re-quire more.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture was originally designed to treat patients 2 – 3 times per week in order to achieve opti-mal results. In general, the more acute a condition is, the less treatment is required and the more chronic a condition, the more treatments will be required. Acu-puncture treatments are accumulative and build upon each other for maximum re-sults, therefore giving the understanding that the more frequent the treatment, the quicker the results.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR ALLEven when there are not symptoms, Acupuncture can help maintain a healthy immune system and work to prevent ill-ness from occurring and reoccurring.

In today’s current economy, many of you have not been receiving the care you need and deserve. This summer George and Shirley Haggard and their family gave a generous gift to the Morristown-Hamblen Hospital Foundation in memory of their daughter Katherine. The do-nation of $250,000 was the largest ever given to help the hospital and will support the forthcoming 15-bed inpatient oncology unit. The unit will be named for Katherine, who succumbed to leukemia when she was 16.

The family was honored at a combination reception and Build-ing Hope capital campaign kickoff at the hospital’s Morristown Regional Cancer Center. The Haggards were presented with a framed print of the artist rendering of the new cancer unit.

Many of the physicians who work with cancer patients were able to attend the event along with several Haggard grandchildren, campaign volunteers, friends of the family, and hospital staff.

Hospital President/CEO Richard L. Clark praised the Hag-gards, saying that they had turned a personal tragedy into hope for others diagnosed with cancer.

George Haggard is the president of the Morristown-Hamblen Hospital Foundation board and also chairman of the capital campaign. In his longstanding volunteer service to the hos-pital he has seen that cancer patients occupy rooms with

the general hospital population and sometimes stay in a semi-private room. The Katherine Haggard unit will provide all private rooms with baths, space for family, infection con-trol, and staff specially trained to deal with people who have cancer. The inpatient unit builds on the hospital’s outpatient and surgery programs and is an important step in becoming accredited by the American College of Surgeons.

According to the foundation’s executive director, Debra Poole, the unit will cost an estimated four million dollars. The Morristown-Hamblen Hospital Foundation is raising two mil-lion charitable dollars. The Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System will match that amount to make the Katherine Hag-gard Inpatient Oncology Unit a reality.

Kathy Haggard and her family dealt with her cancer for two years. The family had to travel to Knoxville on a regular basis for her treatment. Now the Haggards want to help com-plete the cycle of cancer care in our region so that those with the disease can receive quality and caring treatment here at home.

“Our hope is that others will join us to build hope for this very important community project,” Mr. Haggard said.
