2017 Royal Adelaide Show Winners
2
2017 Stitches & Quilt Show The 4 day show exhibited mostly Royal Show entries from the Members. Over 22 exquisite pieces adorned the black back drop of the stand to perfection, created by Wendy, Nathalie, Janet, Kathryn and Maureen. The table held the 3 beautiful first prize winning dolls by Jacqueline. Teddy bear's picnic featured skilfully knitted and crochet items by Lorraine and Mary, on a colourful blanket made by Pat. Also, the always popular Knit and Crochet a Row and Go - help make a scarf for charity.
For a couple of day Nina was busy demonstrating the Tunisian crochet, also known as Tricot and Afghan crochet. We all wore a crochet poppies made by Wendy to promote the "5,000 Poppies" campaign for the Australian War Memorial. I made some "Tiny Teddies" for Walk with Wings.
Lots of people were delighted in seeing the show pieces up close and talking about their craft. Many took the charity requests interested in making their own contributions. A large number took brochures, as they were interested in joining the Guild. Pauline Tuft

Book Review
Knitted Farm Animals © 2012 by Sarah Keen Children and grown-ups alike will fall for this fabulous range of adorable animals, including some
unusual ones such as the llama, highland bull and turkey. Each has its own distinct and humorous character. This attractive collection of original designs is created with strong contemporary colours and durable 8ply yarn which can withstand years of affection. There is a comprehensive reference of knit-ting basics and toy-making techniques that will help get your needles clicking right away. This book was donated to the library and can be found in Section 6 (purple dot). Margaret Burke

Happy Birthday Carolyn Harwood
Carolyn, who is one of the Guild's newer members, celebrated her 60th birthday in August. Carolyn enjoys making colourful cardigans and jumpers, particularly with the Intarsia technique. She is especial-ly pleased with the Iona cardigan that she knitted for a friend. It is special to her friend as she can
wear it even though she can no longer go to Iona. It also won a Show prize. Her favourite tools are her bobbins which stop the col-ours tangling together. In over 50 years of knitting she has accumulated an 'unbelievable' yarn stash which she has organised into a wall of tubs in an Ikea cube organiser. "More wool than I'll ever knit" she says. One of the reasons why she enjoys the Guild is because of being with other people who knit and understand about wool stashes. Her advice to a learner: "You might think knitting is slow, but remember that it lasts for a really long time".

Some have been added to the library cupboard and others have been priced for sale at the July Fair at Wayville and the monthly trading tables. It is a work in progress, dealing with one section each month. Coloured stickers on the spines of the books have made it easy to re-shelve them correctly. Many thanks to the library team. Thank you to committee members for their forward thinking, organisation and work to manage the Guild affairs. Thank you also to members who: • regularly showed up early and helped set up the hall, donated wool and other items for the raffles, • took on operational positions to keep the guild meetings running smoothly, • provided items for display or sale at events, • volunteered their time and help whenever needed. Thank you to all the members who came and enjoyed our companionship. Margaret Burke
