Guild ITP National Student Essay Competition 2016Competition Guidelines
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia is proud to host its annual competition for final year pharmacy students in Australia!
The Guild Intern Training Program (Guild ITP) National Student Essay Competition is designed to encourage students to communicate their vision for community pharmacy and the role of the pharmacist in the future. Students are encouraged to submit an essay with a maximum of 1,500 words on the topic outlined below.
The TopicThe Pharmacy Guild is focused on supporting pharmacies integrate operational efficiencies needed to facilitate increases in pharmacist led counselling through Over the counter (OTC) medicine sales in a way that supports Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) principles enhancing patient health outcomes.Discuss three possible initiatives, commercial or operational, that would support the appropriate promotion and delivery of pharmacist led counselling of non-prescription medicines including, but not limited to, S2/S3 products. As a minimum you must outline the possible initiatives; how each initiative would provide growth and/or business security to community pharmacy and how they would enhance patient health outcomes.
Awards What can you win?The winning essay submission will receive a fully-paid scholarship to cover the cost of the student’s Guild ITP course fees (up to AUD$2000). The top student essays will be available online and an excerpt from the winning essay will be published in a prominent Guild publication. All essay finalists will receive a Certificate of Merit.
In addition to the scholarship, the winning essayist will receive complimentary registration, travel and accommodation to attend a Pharmacy Transformation 2016 Business event (TBA). Attendance at the 2016 event, will provide the winning essayist a unique opportunity to present their essay and access a wide range of industry representatives; increase their knowledge and grow their network of pharmacy contacts.
Eligibility Who can enter?Students entering the competition must be either: currently enrolled Bachelor of Pharmacy
students who are in their fourth year of study in 2016; or
currently enrolled Master of Pharmacy students who are in their second year of study in 2016.
All students must be from a school of pharmacy whose courses have provisional or full accreditation with the Australian Pharmacy Council. See: http://pharmacycouncil.org.au/content/index.php?id=18
Guidelines for EntriesEssay Format and Submission1. Entries must be no longer than 1500 words in
length. Essays that exceed the word limit will be rejected.
2. Entries must use single spaced text using Calibri font (font size 11).
3. Entries must be submitted in both Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF versions.

4. Entries must be submitted with the Guild ITP Student Essay Competition Submission Form which includes the following information:− Student’s name− Student’s university− Contact details− Essay title− Essay word count− An abstract (of no more than 200 words)− Plagiarism Declaration
5. Entries must be submitted to [email protected] by 5:00 pm AEST on Friday 29th July 2016.
All essays submitted by the participants in the Guild ITP Student Essay Competition 2016 must comply with these guidelines.
Judging How is the competition judged?Each essay will be assessed individually by each member of the judging panel for its compliance with the submission requirements and the demonstration of vision for the future of community pharmacy.
Each member of the judging panel will score the essay and the average of the four judges’ scores will provide the overall score for the essay.
The Judging PanelThe judging panel for the 2016 competition will comprise the following industry representatives: A National Councillor of the Pharmacy Guild of
Australia A representative from the National Australian
Pharmacy Students’ Association (NAPSA) A communications representative from the
Pharmacy Guild of Australia A representative from the Guild Intern
Training Program.
Competition AdministrationThe competition is coordinated and managed by the Guild Pharmacy Academy, Pharmacy Guild of Australia.Sarah Burns, Business Support Consultant, Business Support will fulfil the role of Competition Coordinator.
