tests and FAT (Factory Acceptance Test).
Structural flexibility, reliability, a wide range of
accessories combined with global project support are
a part of what Halton can offer.
Halton HVAC dampers for all applications
SafetySafety is the most important factor in demanding
conditions, where where a fire could put people's life at risk
unless necessary precautionscautions are taken. Therefore
it is essential that the equipment chosen tohosen to prevent
fire progression within a ventilation ductwork is top-top
class. Because smoke and other toxic gases are more
dangerous than the fire itself, it is important that the
fire dampers also prevent smoke from spreading.
HaHalton is the manufacturer supplying smoke-tight
fire dampermpers. The excellent quality of Halton Marine
dampers is recognizeognized by the leading owners and the
major classification societies wties worldwide.
Halton Marine type-approved A0(A60) fire and gas
dampers are widely used in different types of ships
and Oil & Gas applications, where they are typically
installed to prevent the spread of fire, smoke and gas
between fire zones. The Halton FDB2 fire and gas
damper patented blade structure, contain special seals
that are effective up to 300 °C (572 °F), and thermally-
activated graphite seals that expand when the heat
rises to 150 °C (302 °F) in ductwork. These unique
safety features ensure air tightness and low leakage
of Halton FDB2 dampers that prevent the fire, gas and
smoke progression in a ductwork.
The Halton FDL is type-approved A0(A60) fire damper.
The blades of FDL fire damper do not contain seals.
Both models, FDB2 and FDL, are rated for A0 – A60
-Class, fire dampers that, when suitably installed and
insulated in a ductwork, will prevent a spread of fire for
60 minutes.
Halton type-approved H0(H120) fire dampers
are to be used in demanding applications, where it is
necessary to ensure the maximum amount of time for
people to react to possible fire, or risk of fire. Halton
Marine FEX dampers are to be installed, for example
in the external walls of living quarters, to prevent fire
and gas progression into living areas, where fire could
become life-threatening. Halton FEX dampers are
developed to meet H-Class integrity.

Halton Marine non-return and pressure-relief
dampers are used to prevent backflow and relieve
pressure through ventilation ductwork. The opening
pressure of BLD and BRD dampers can be individually
adjusted.
Blast Dampers are designed for protection of
ventilation systems against destructive blast forces.
The HV series offers higher air flow capacity and
increased level of safety, compared to most of the
available products on the market, as well as flexibility
for design of duct systems.
Halton Marine shut-off and airflow control
dampers are installed in the ventilation ducts where
the dampers are used to control and balance the
supply of fresh air for people to live and work in.
When necessary, dampers can be used to shut-off the
ventilation ducts (possible emergency situation).
As a result of good airflow management, temperatures
and air pressures are maintained at the required level.
The Halton UT series consists of four different models,
from which customers can choose the best possible
option for the required applications.
Flexibility
The structural flexibility combined with a wide range
of accessories (including explosion-proof) and special
steels, enable Halton Marine to offer customers
tailored solutions for different applications. Versatile,
high-tech ph-tech production is able to meet the needs of
various specifications, suations, such as the ISO 15138 standard.
Several Halton Marine dampers are ATErs are ATEX certified and

PERFORMANCE OF HALTON FDB2
Halton FDB2 is the successor of FDB - the most widely sold marine fire damper in the world. Why do the owners want
to secure their properties with FDB2?
ATEX
All dampers with automatic electrical, pneumatic or spring-actuated operation systems and fusible link.
Please note: Stainless steel AISI 316L available on request.
FDB2 is truly designed for fire. Tightness of FDB2
improves substantially under fire conditions.
Typically, steel deformation during fire increase the
damper leakage and allows the smoke and other
toxic gases to spread out into the ductwork.
Tightness in normal conditions meets - and is
substantially better than ISO 15138 requirement of
300 m3/h/m2 2000 Pa for gas tight fire dampers.
Closed FDB2 fire damper 1000x1000 fulfils the
requirements of leakage class 3(EN 1751:1998).

Halton high-efficiencygalley ventilation
The coThe convection plume from the cooking operation
underneath the hoh the hood, contains grease that has to
be extracted as efficiently as ntly as possible. The amount
of grease produced by cooking is a result oa result of many
variables including the type of appliance used for
cooking, the temperature that food is being cooked
at and the type of food being cooked. The purpose of
mechanical filters is twofold:
Providerovide fire protection by reducing flames entering
the exhaust duct ductwork
Remove impurities from throm the exhaust stream
The more the grease is extracted at the filter, the
longer the exhaust ducts and fans stay clean - resulting
in better fire safety. From a practical point of view,
grease filters should be easily cleanable and clog-proof.
If the filter becomes clogged in use, the pressure drop
across the filter will increase and the exhaust airflow
will be lower than designed. This can be avoided with
Halton’s automatic water wash system that keeps
mechanical filters continuously clean.
Water wash system for hoods – the best choice for
galleys running at peak performance
Halton Marine KWH and KWT water wash hoods are
equipped with an automatic washing system that
cleans the filter equipment and the exhaust plenum at
a pre-determined time without a need to remove the
filters from the hood. Washing cycle is programmable
with a separate control cabinet that can be connected
to several hood groups. Halton Marine KWH and KWT
water wash hoods utilize Capture Jet technology as
standard.
The Halton Marine water wash hoods are especially
designed for high capacity utilization in marine and
offshore applications, where improved hygienic
conditions, safety and reliability play an important role.
Halton Capture Jet Technology
– exhaust efficiency with reduced airflows
An efficient exhaust system is the key to a pleasant
working environment in galleys, pastries, pantries and
sculleries. Halton Capture Jet prevents the heat and
impurities produced by cooking appliances spreading
to the work area. The hoods utilize Halton’s patented
Capture Jet technology in which small air jets push the
uprising thermal current towards the filters. Compared
to conventional

exhaust-only hoods, Capture Jet is up to 30% more
efficient. Performance tests show that Capture Jet
technology reduces required airflows resulting in
savings in weight, space and energy consumption.
The Halton Capture Jet technology does not
necessarily require a separate supply air duct. The
Capture Jet Fan takes the required air from the galley.
This also saves space as well as construction and
operational costs.
Superior filtration technology with lower operation
costs is a combination of mechanical filtration and
UV-light technology. At Halton, mechanical filtration
is based on Halton’s patented KSA multi-cyclone
filter. The grease extractor is constructed of multiple
cyclones that remove grease from the air stream with
the aid of centrifugal force. The UL-classified KSA filter
can extract up to 95% of grease particles above 8
microns. Independent laboratory tests prove KSA to
be the most efficient mechanical grease filter on the
market.
UV-light technology
— the most efficient grease filtration technology
Halton’s UV-light technology is the most efficient solution
for hoods with medium to high utilization rate, and for
cooking processes producing all sizes of grease particles.
In the UV-light concept, most of the grease particles are
first filtered with mechanical filtration (type KSA). The
mesh filter behind the KSA spreads and equalizes the
airflow into the hood chamber. The remaining grease is
then eliminated with ultraviolet-light technology, resulting
in a clean exhaust ductwork.
Halton's UV-light technology breaks remaining small
grease particles into smaller molecular units. Ozone
generated by the UVC lamps reacts with the solid and
vaporised greases. The resulting substance will not stick
to the ductwork or fans, this helps to reduce a serious
fire risk and expensive cleaning of the ducts. Laboratory
tests and real-life conditions have proven results that
using Halton Marine water wash hoods and UV-light
technology, is the most effective choice for achieving
ultra clean ducts.
The UV-light technology is an excellent choice not only
for hoods in new-builds but also for refurbishments as
the equipment does not change it’s outer dimensions.

Additional features
Energy-efficient galley ventilation
— providing substantial savings
Halton offers a unique system that can save significant
amount of energy in galleys without comprising the
comfort and functionality. Halton's patented method
of Demand Control Ventilation called MARVEL adjusts
hood exhaust airflow based on cooking appliance
status - off, idle or cooking, while utilizing the Capture
Jet technology.
In traditional systems, the galley ventilation is
maintained in a constant level. In the Halton system,
the ventilation is based on varying the exhaust and
supply air volumes according real needs.
The system detects the status of cooking equipment
by using special sensors and algorithm designed for
galley application. MARVEL also provides comfortable
conditions by supervising and maintaining humidity
and temperature levels inside galley by controlling Air-
Handling Unit and exhaust fan.
The result of MARVEL system is optimized energy
consumption according to real needs.

can save up to 50% in galley ventilation energy
consumption. This contributes also to environmental
respect.

Halton individualcabin ventilation
Air comfort is one of the most important wellbeing
factors in creating a successful work environment, and
in arranging a dream vacation on board ship. Silent,
user-friendly, and individual cabin ventilation technology
creates a relaxing atmosphere for different types of
cabins and environments by using a modern, pressure
independent operation system.
Halton Marine offers a total cabin air-condition package
for different types of cabins and other spaces that
require a good air-conditioning. The package includes
a CAV/VAV unit with plug-and-play controllers plus
supply and exhaust products. Controllers consist of an
input-output unit, an intelligent room thermostat and
an interconnection cable. CAV/VAV units can operate
as stand-alone units or in series. A LON or Ethernet
network enables that terminal units can be controlled,
monitored and adjusted by using a simple software.

– Pressure independent operation system
Halton pressure-independent cabin units support the
most sophisticated indoor environment in cabins. The
airflow is controlled and maintained individually in each
cabin and thus sound levels remain constant. Changes
in in supply air are so smooth that passengers won’t pay
any atteattention to ventilation. In addition, the airflow
and temperaterature are continuously measured so that
the controller will cut off the reheat power below the
minimum airflow.
Halton Marine cabin ventilation equipment can operate
on a LON or Ethernet network. Through intelligent
network anwork and pressure-independent operation systems,
it is possible to reach thereach the best benefits of the Halton
Energy Efficiency technology. AutomaticAutomatic models of
HMF (single duct cabin unit) and HMR (dual duct cabin t cabin
unit) are typically used in passenger cabins or other
similar accommodations.
For suites, deluxe cabins or other larger spaces,
Halton Marine recommends a fully automatic HFR/M

Intelligent networkaboard ships
Connecting a Halton cabin ventilation system to a
network offers many advantages:
A possibility to control, monitor and adjust cabin
Indoor climate, centralized via the network
Improved passenger comfort
Savings in troubleshooting time
Savings in energy consumption
In a network, selected cabin ventilation parameters can
be managed through PC software, or locally by using
a Palm hand-held, or a laptop computer. The network
also enables optimization and balancing of the cabin
ventilation system. Halton’s pressure-independent
operation system working in a network, ensures that
indoor climate in cabins can be individually adjusted
according to passenger demands. In a case where
a passenger informs the crew that the thermal
environment in his cabin has changed or is otherwise
at an uncomfortable level, it is possible to trace the
history of each cabin on the PC in the reception area,
and even make the necessary adjustments without
entering the cabin.
Advanced energy efficiency
One of the best benefits from the ship Owner’s point
ofof view, is the active communication between AHU (Air
Handlindling Unit) and terminal units. Data from terminal
units is colleollected and calculated to control the AHU in
two ways:
1. Adjusting the fan operation to optimal level
The AHU control calculator monitors and collects data
of the terminal units, as well as functional details.
Collected data enables the calculator to determine
the pressure in front of each unit. Pressure data is
used to optimto optimize the fan operation, which cuts down
unnecessary energy consugy consumption. All this is done
without losing any comfort in the cabins.e cabins.
2. Minimizing the need to cool down the air inside
the AHU
The AHU control calculator collects the re-heater
information from each terminal unit. Based on the re-
heater’s utilization rates, the AHU’s chiller and heater
valves are controlled to cut down unnecessary cooling
and prevent unnecessary electrical heating inside
the terminal unit. The supply air is kept actively on
optimum temperature level together with humidity

work. An automatic Halton Marine LONEthernet network. An au
ning on supervision node replacement software, running on s
work.PC, enables easy maintenance of the LON network.
Ethernet network is another choice to build the
Halton Marine centralized cabin ventilation system.
In principle the operations are the same in the both
networks. In a LON network, nodes are used for
pparameter identification, in Ethernet network, IP-
addresses aresses are used for the same thing. Nodes and IP-
addresses can contain muntain multiple exchangeable/readable
parameters for setting and monitoring cabtoring cabin climate
conditions. IP-addresses for cabin units connected
to a network are set by hand held tool or laptop. PC
supervision software enables easy maintenance of the
network.
Halton Ethernet solution can be embedded to an H
g Ethernet network built on board, which is existing Ethe
or other services such as IP-telephone,normally used for othe
elevision etc.Internet, multimedia, IP-televis
