INTEGRATED SOLUTIONSWrtsil provides integrated solutions for cruise vessels, ferries and megayachts. Through technical expertise and with support from our customers, we improve the sustainability of these vessels using proven or innovative systems and a host of environmental services. Whilst boosting energy efficiency may appear as a cost-effective economy-driven requirement, the real challenge is to find new ways to reduce emissions. Being an agile technology leader and eager to promote environmentally sound practices within the cruise industry, Wrtsil is aiming to go beyond environmental regulations. We follow our customers projects throughout their lifecycle. Through early involvement and long-term commitment, we strive to provide leading-edge solutions.

THE ENVIRONMENTThe maritime industry is facing ever increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact. Regulations are becoming more stringent, and new authorities are establishing their own emission regulations in local areas. At the same time, the cruise business is booming and the number of cruise berths is growing rapidly. Even though cruising is a leisure business, it is also one of the most visible parts of the shipping sector. Cruise operators will, therefore, need to put more and more effort into becoming greener. To ensure maximum efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance over the entire lifecycle of the installation, Wrtsils solutions are customized to meet specific ship design and operational requirements. Most of the worlds harbours are located close to densely populated areas, hence the strong demand during recent years for no visible smoke. Wrtsil makes smokeless engines possible. Our common rail technology is a fuel injection system that facilitates high levels of combustion efficiency and offers economical power generation, whilst reducing exhaust emissions.2

These benefits are achieved by the accurate regulation and timing of high pressure fuel delivery to the cylinders. A UNIC (Wrtsil Unified Controls) engine control system monitors the engines operating parameters and uses the resulting data to adjust fuel flow, thereby maximizing performance under all conditions. The system also allows switching between different fuel grades while maintaining maximum efficiency. Our existing engines can also be modified with both primary and secondary methods of developed NOX reduction technologies.

Primary methods include: Dual-fuel engines Efficiency rudder Highly efficient propellers Oceanguard seals CBM Secondary methods include: Compact Silencer System Scrubber SCR Senitec products Wetpac

GAS IS TOMORROWS FUELDue to its excellent combustion performance and reliability level the Wrtsil 46 has become the most popular engine for power generation onboard new cruise vessels. OASIS OF THE SEAS Main engines: 3 x 12V46 + 3 x 16V46 Power generated: more than 96 MW Shipyard: STX Europe, Turku, Finland Ship Owner: Royal Caribbean Delivered: 2009 Future cruise ships will have to be capable of operating at reduced levels of emissions, and such reductions will require more than just engine design modifications. For Wrtsil, this is an ongoing area of investigation. For instance, the use of LNG as fuel will eliminate all SOX emissions, reduce NOX emissions by 80%, and lower CO2 emissions by more than 20%. New concepts are being designed in cooperation with customers, and will be modified to suit individual vessel design. These innovations will be available during the coming few years.

Wrtsils worldwide service network provides lifetime support. We deliver: Integrated systems and solutions with standardized interfaces Guaranteed system performance Simplicity of installation

To reduce CO2 and SOX emissions we have increased engine efficiency, developed multifuel engines, and produced technologies that advance the efficiency of the entire ship. To reduce emissions to the water, our sealing systems offer environmentally sound alternatives that prevent oil spills. We also offer efficient treatment systems for sludge and bilge water. We strive to optimize the operational reliability, cost-efficiency, and environmental sustainability of cruise ships. LNG CRUISE SHIP CONCEPT3

RO-PAX SHIP CONCEPTLIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION Lightweight materials such as aluminium can be used in the superstructure to save weight and reduce fuel consumption.

ENERGY SAVING LIGHTING The use of more efcient light sources can reduce the electrical and heat demand.

PROPULSION CONCEPTS CRP Counter rotating propellers have a very high efciency rating.

INTERCEPTOR TRIM PLANES An Interceptor creates a Iift effect that reduces the propulsion power demand.

CODED MACHlNERY CODED machinery combines the features of electric and mechanical propulsion to offer the best efciency for ships with varying operating proles.

ONE SUPPLIER: WRTSILWrtsil aims to deliver the optimum solution and performance tailored to fit the operating profile of each vessel. Having a single supplier throughout the entire life cycle of the vessel, from conceptual design to construction and operation, offers distinct benefits: Opportunity for shipyards to focus on their core competences (e.g. project management, hull production) Single responsibility , one point of contact = Wrtsil Reduced risk of incompatibilities Less coordination work between parties Classification for complete systems Time savings in design and engineering Time savings in purchasing process Integrated system documentation Production schedule discipline Improved environment and work safety Outfitting work from ship to shops Warranty handling

REDUCING OPERATIONAL COSTSOur CBM systems use a unique combination of visual and manual inspections, online condition monitoring of mechanical installations (with in-built sensors for example), system efficiency data, and numerous other indicators. Using all this information, the CBM system enables us to accurately determine the actual overall status and condition of your system and ultimately the maintenance it needs. CBM makes maintenance proactive, rather than reactive, by spotting fault sources and emerging operational trends well before any failure occurs. The main aims are to balance the time between overhauls, to minimize downtime while maximizing safety, and to guarantee optimized engine performance under all conditions. CBM offers a substantial cost advantage since it closely conforms to the customers operational availability requirements. By diagnosing and calculating the optimal performance parameters, and thereby predicting the future status of the equipment, it is possible to: optimize operations minimize inspection overhauls replace parts at the optimal time tune maintenance to other business factors.

INTERCEPTOR TRIM PLANES

NEW CONCEPTSEnergy efficiency and innovative new designs serve to produce cost reductions that are essential to improving the competitiveness of ferry operations. One important benefit is the prospect of saving as well as earning money. LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION The use of lightweight structures can reduce overall ship weight. In structures that do not affect the global strength of the ship, the use of aluminium or similar lightweight materials can be a viable solution. A 20% reduction in steel weight will give a reduction of ~9% in propulsion power requirements. However, a 5% saving is more realistic, since high tensile steel has already been used to some extent in many cases.

CRP PROPULSION Counter rotating propellers consist of a pair of propellers behind each other that rotate in opposite directions. The aft propeller recovers some of the rotational energy in the slipstream from the forward propeller. CRP propulsion has been documented as having one of the highest efficiencies. The power reduction for a single screw vessel is 10% to 15%. CODED MACHINERY Combined diesel-electric and diesel-mechanical machinery can improve the overall efficiency of ships whose operational profile involves varying load modes. The electric power plant will produce benefits at part load, were the engine load is optimized by selecting the use of the appropriate number of engines. At higher loads, the mechanical part will offer lower transmission losses than fully electric machinery. FUEL TYPE LNG Switching to LNG fuel reduces a ships energy consumption because of the lower demand for electricity and heating. Savings in total energy can amount to up to 4% for a typical ferry in 22 knots cruise mode. The difference in electrical load is approx. 380 kW. This has a major impact on emissions.

TURNAROUND TIME IN PORT Turnaround time can be reduced by, for example, improving manoeuvring performance, and by enhancing cargo flows through innovative ship designs, ramp arrangements or lifting arrangements. Impact of reducing port time for a typical ferry. Port time Energy demand 2 h 100% -10 min 97% -20 min 93% -30 min 90% ENERGY SAVING LIGHTING Through the use of more efficient lighting where possible, and by optimizing the use of lighting, demand for electricity and air conditioning can be reduced. This results in a lower hotel load and correspondingly reduced auxiliary power demand. Ferry fuel consumption saving: ~1%

INTERCEPTOR TRIM PLANES Although the interceptor has proven to be more effective than a conventional trim wedge in some cases, so far it has been used only in cruise vessels and RoRos. An interceptor is cheaper to retrofit than a trim wedge. Propulsion power demand decreases by 1 to 5%. This means a corresponding improvement of up to 4% in total energy demand. COOLING WATER PUMPS, SPEED CONTROL Pumps are major energy consumers and the engine cooling water system contains a considerable number of pumps. In many installations a large volume of extra water is circulated in the cooling water circuit. Operating the pumps at variable speed would optimize the flow according to actual need. Pump energy savings case studies (LT only) show a possible gain of 20 to 30 %.
