GOLDEN ROUTE 8 Dotonbori This is one of the main shopping districts of Osaka and is famous for its bright and colourful neon signs and unique exterior decor. It has an enormous variety of stores centring on eateries and restaurants, and has a very cheerful atmosphere. 7 Osaka Castle The symbol of Osaka's history and tourism. Built in 1583 it eventually succumbed to fire and fell but was rebuilt in 1931. There are many historical items on display in the tower and you can take in all of Osaka city in a single glance from the viewing platform. Also various seasonal events are held in Osaka Castle Park. 6 Gion Gion was initially developed as the area leading up to the Yasaka Shrine. You might also be lucky enough to meet a beautiful young maiko or geiko (apprentice geishas) in traditional Japanese costume. 5 Kiyomizu-dera Temple The standard tourist spot in Kyoto. You can see all of Kyoto city from Kiyomizu Stage jutting out from the main temple. Famous for sakura in the spring, red and gold leaves in the autumn, and illuminated at night with each changing season, it is beautiful enough to take your breath away. 4 GOTEMBA PREMIUM OUTLETS ® With over 200 brand shops and restaurants, this is one of the largest outlet malls in Japan. Amidst the wide-open natural space, and with a view of World Cultural Heritage site Mt. Fuji, you can enjoy a whole day full of shopping. 3 Mt. Fuji Mt. Fuji is the largest mountain in Japan (3,776m) , and located roughly in the centre. A registered world heritage site, where in spring you can see cherry blossoms, and in winter snow- covered scenery. You can enjoy its natural beauty as it changes form with the coming of each season. 2 Sensoji Temple (Asakusa) The Sensoji Temple is Tokyo's oldest temple. It is in Asakusa, a popular tourist spot that preserves the traditional shitamachi (shopping and entertainment district) atmosphere of Tokyo. There is a shopping arcade called the Nakamise-dori along the approach to the temple, where a variety of souvenirs and traditional Japanese products are sold. 1 TOKYO SKYTREE ® TOKYO SKYTREE ® , inaugurated in May 2012, is a free-standing ratio tower at a height of 634m. 7 Shinsaibashi

Shinsaibashi is one of Japan's most popular shopping districts and the most bustling area in Osaka city. A large number of department stores, brand outlets and other commercial facilities line the streets and form a major shopping zone.

6 Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan

Located in Tenpozan in Osaka Prefecture, this aquarium is home to the largest indoor fish tank in the world. You can find 30,000 sea creatures of 620 kinds here. One of its features is the Aqua Gate, a tunnel guaranteed to thrill you just to walk through it.

5 Arashi-yama

Set in the midst of mountains and a river flowing between them, Arashi-yama is a place of remarkable scenic beauty. Right from the old times, it was loved by many people and has many historical shrines and temples. It is especially known for its beautiful cherry blossoms (mid-March to early April) and autumn colours (mid-November to early December), and has an atmosphere of great purity.

4 Kinkakuji Temple

A registered UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994, Kinkakuji Temple is a tourist spot that no visitor to Kyoto should miss. The temple is gold-plated and topped with a bronze phoenix ornament signifying peace. Kinkakuji Temple is also famous for its beautiful gardens created mainly in and around the pond surrounding the temple.

3 Toyota Kaikan Museum (Factory Tour)

The Toyota Kaikan Museum shows how they insightfully deal with environmental and safety issues as well as showcasing their latest technologies. They also have Factory tours in which you can see behind the scenes of car assembly and welding. (Reservation required).

8 Tsutenkaku Tower

This is one of Osaka's most famous tourist landmarks. Known as a symbol of Osaka, it is a fondly admired observation tower. In the evening, you can get a full night-view of Osaka.

7 Nijo-jo Castle

This fortified structure was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu, who began the Edo Bakufu (Tokugawa shogunate), to stand as his villa. The building is recognized as part of a World Heritage Site and is most notable for its remarkable splendour and the paintings on the room partitions. Renowned for cherry blossoms, in spring the castle's inner circle is filled with around 400 blooming sakura trees.

6 Toji Temple

This famous temple, one of Kyoto's most notable, was built 1200 years ago and is a World Heritage Site. The national treasure “Gojunoto”, or five-storied pagoda, stands proudly among its buildings as the tallest wooden tower in Japan.

5 Naga-machi Buke Yashiki District

Here you can find the remains of samurai estates. The earthen walls and stone paving give the area a charming air, making you feel as if you had been transported through time to the old Japan.

4 Kenrokuen Garden

One of the great gardens of Japan, it beautifully harmonizes the loveliness of nature and the skill of human hands. It is differently lovely in each season, with cherry blossoms in the spring, red and gold leaves in the autumn, and snowy landscapes in the winter.

3 Kurobe Dam

At a height of 186 m, and a length of 492 m this is the largest arch-style dome overflow dam in Japan. Seeing Kurobe dam spitting out more than 10 tonnes of water every second really packs a punch!

2 Murodo

This tourist spot is located in the centre of the Alpine Route at a height of 2450 m. The grandeur of the 3000 m tall Mt. Tsurugi and the Tateyama mountain range, rise up in a single glance. The deepest alpine lake in the Japanese Alps, “Mikurigaike pond” is found here.

1 “Yuki-no-Otani” – Snow Wall

Tateyama has some of the heaviest snowfalls in the world. From mid-April to mid-June you can walk between the 20 m tall snow walls in Murodo's dynamic Gorge of Snow, enjoy the snowfall and play to your heart's content in the snow-covered world.
